I could hardly move the next morning. I laid in the bed listening to the twins in the shower. When I heard the water shut off, I went into my bath and started my morning routine (shit, shower, shave-- remember I was raised by a Marine). As I exited the bathroom, I smelled the bacon and the coffee. I am ready for it. Last night was a night of un-believable sex. Everything I did to one of them I had to do to the other. By 2am I was shooting dust and told them I was done for the night. I went to sleep laying on my back with one girl on each shoulder.
I walked into the kitchen to find them sitting at the table eating eggs and drinking coffee. One of them says, “We have to go grocery shopping today. If we are going to live here, we have to have food.” Again, I must have missed the conversation about them moving in with me.
I say that as soon as Dove gets back we can all go into town and do some shopping and maybe get lunch at the diner.
The other twin just grins and says, “Dove is not coming home. R.D. and she are in Albuquerque this weekend. They should be home Monday afternoon when we get home from school. We need to stop by our house and tell the Chief we are moving in with you and pick up some of our clothes we will need for school next week.”
Now don’t get me wrong, I am falling in love with these two, but things seem to be moving very fast. I decide to speak up.
“Girls, don’t this seem fast? I mean we have only known each other for a month. Last night was the first time we had sex and it was only our second date. Don’t you think we should date a while and see if we really want to spend the rest of our lives together? This is a big decision and then there’s your father. How is he going to feel about this?”
“Dove has already told us our future, and it is with you. We are going to be married here on the reservation. We will live a long life together with you, having lots of children and grandchildren. Sometime in the future you will build a bigger house for all of us and we will be happy.”
The other one just looked at me and said, “You have a problem knowing your future, Kemosabe?” OK now I know this one is Lanny. I reach out and take one of her hands in mine and grab one of Lona’s.
“If you girls don’t have a problem, then I sure don’t. I just hope your father feels the same.”
“He will be just fine with us marrying you. After you pay him for us you will be like a son he never had.”
“What should I give him? Maybe two cows and a goat? Or maybe a couple of horses?”
“Your truck should be enough. He’s been having trouble with his old truck so a new truck would make him happy.”
That is exactly what happened. Later that day we went grocery shopping and after we put the groceries up, we drove over to the chief’s house. The girls went in and started packing as I sat on the porch with her dad and explained that I was in love with both his daughters. I then offered him the keys to my truck and told him it was his. He did not say a word. He got up, knocked the fire out of his pipe and went into the house. I am going to tell you I was a little nervous. That house is full of guns. But he did take the keys so I am hopeful. He returns with his wife and she hugs me and welcomes me to the family. He goes out to the truck and walks around it then gets inside and starts it up. He honks the horn and his wife jumps in and off they go. I watch as they drive out of sight.
The girls join me on the porch and ask me to help with their suitcases. I tell them we don’t have a ride and one of them shakes her dad’s old truck keys at me. “He says we can use it until you buy another one.”
We load up their things and head home. He got the better ride. This old truck needs a lot of work.
As we are putting things in the house, I notice that all of Dove’s things are gone. Lanny sees me wondering about this and says, “She will not be coming home anytime soon. She is going to live with R.D.”
By now I am just starting to accept that there are things I am not privileged to. I decide to just go with the flow. We get settled in and they start supper. I go on line and tell John the news of the twins and I. After reading the news I start to see I have new e-mails. They are from everyone in the family congratulating me and wanting to know when they will meet my wives. Only in my family would news of me marrying two women be accepted with such joy.
After we ate and were putting up the dishes, I noticed the girls starting to giggle and shoot me looks.
“When can we start celebrating our engagement?” asked one of them.
“Right now” I shouted and grabbed one and headed to the bedroom with the other in tow.
It was another wild night with us trying everything that we had not done the night before.
Sunday we had to go to the chief’s house for dinner. That became a family tradition. We got home early and got everything ready for the first day of school. As we finished I saw the same looks as the night before, I was quick to tell them that tomorrow being our first day at school, we had to have an early night. We did, if you call 11:30 early.
School was hectic for the first couple of hours but by noon everything was normal and everyone was in the right place. Then around 2pm just before school let out R.D. showed up with Dove and the twins. He informed me that the old man had died. He would be buried tomorrow and that school would be let out so all could attend the funeral.
While he was making the announcement on the school inter-com, I asked Dove where she had been the last couple of days. She replied by holding up her ring finger and showing me her wedding band. I was dumbfounded.
“Does your father know?”
“Sure, I told him before he left. All will be explained later. Don’t worry. Oh yes, I see congratulations are in order for you also.”
I smiled and told her I hoped she would be happy. She hugged me and said thanks. I thought that was a strange reply but everything with this girl is strange.
The next day I think everyone on the reservation and a few more were at the funeral. It was like a president died. There were 3 eulogies then at the gravesite another long speech about his life.
