The morning of our departure was cold.

December in New Mexico, reader. The desert was freezing. The wind was biting. But we were naked. As always.

I woke up in Zoe’s room. She was still asleep beside me, her naked body curled against mine. Her commitment was permanent. I could feel it in the way she held me. In the way she breathed.

Her contract was signed. Her choice was made.

“Zoe,” I whispered. “Wake up.”

Her eyes fluttered open. Ocean-green. Serene.

“Morning,” she said.

“Morning.”

“Are we really doing this?”

I looked at her, reader. I looked at her ocean-green eyes. Her serene cunt face.

“Yes,” I said. “We’re really doing this.”

We had a final session before leaving.

A goodbye to the boxes. A goodbye to the cunt faces. A goodbye to everything.

“Zoe,” I said, “are you ready?”

“I’m ready.” She smiled. “Always ready.”

I climbed onto her, reader. I took my position over her cunt face.

“I love you,” I whispered.

“I know.” She gasped. “I love you too.”

We made love for the last time, reader. The last time in the boxes.

“Goodbye,” I said. “Goodbye to everything.”

She held me, reader. She held me as she’d never let go.

We packed nothing.

No clothes. No luggage. Just us. That was our pact. Our promise.

“Zoe,” I said, “we’re really leaving.”

“I know.” She nodded. “I can’t believe it.”

“Neither can I.”

We looked around her room, reader. The books. The bed. The box.

“I’m going to miss this,” she said.

“Miss what?”

“The room. The boxes. Everything.” She shook her head. “This was my home.”

I took her hand, reader. I squeezed it tight.

“Your home is with me,” I said. “Wherever we go.”

We had nothing but our purses.

A few possessions. A few memories. Everything else was gone.

“Zoe,” I said, “are you sure about this?”

“I’m sure.” She nodded. “I’ve never been more sure.”

I looked at her, reader. I saw the determination in her eyes.

“Okay,” I said. “Let’s go.”

We were committed.

Naked. Always naked. No exceptions.

“Zoe,” I said, “we’re going to be naked for the rest of our lives.”

“I know.” She smiled. “I’m ready.”

We walked out of the sorority house, reader. We walked out into the cold.

We got in the car and started driving.

North, reader. Toward Colorado. Toward home.

The landscape changed as we drove. The desert gave way to mountains. The heat gave way to cold. The familiar gave way to the unknown.

“Zoe,” I said, “are you cold?”

“Freezing.” She smiled. “But I don’t care.”

“Neither do I.”

We held hands, reader. We held hands as we drove.

We crossed the border from New Mexico into Colorado.

The sign read: “Welcome to Colorful Colorado.”

“Zoe,” I said, “we’re home.”

“Home?” She looked at me. “This is your home?”

“This is my home.” I nodded. “And now it’s yours.”

She smiled, reader. She smiled as she meant it.

The landscape was changing.

Desert to mountains. Brown to green. Dry to cold.

“Zoe,” I said, “this is where I grew up.”

“It’s beautiful.” She looked around. “It’s so beautiful.”

I thought about that, reader. I thought about the mountains. The pines. The snow.

“Welcome to Colorado,” I said. “Welcome to my home.”

We stopped for gas.

Naked, as always. Unashamed, as always.

The attendant stared at us. His mouth was open. His eyes were wide.

“Fill it up,” I said.

“You’re—you’re—”

“Naked,” Zoe said. “We know. It’s a choice. Deal with it.”

He didn’t argue, reader. He just filled the tank and watched us drive away.

“That was fun,” Zoe said.

“Fun?”

“His face. The way he looked at us.” She laughed. “People can be so predictable.”

I laughed too, reader. For the first time in weeks, I laughed.

We stopped at a diner for lunch.

Naked, as always. Defiant, as always.

The waitress looked at us like we were aliens. The other customers whispered behind their menus.

“Can I get two burgers?” I asked. “And two waters.”

“Ma’am, you’re—”

“Naked,” Zoe said. “We know. Just bring the food.”

The waitress shook her head, reader. She brought the food. She didn’t look at us again.

“Everyone stares,” I said.

“Let them stare.” Zoe bit into her burger. “We’re not hurting anyone.”

She was right, reader. We weren’t hurting anyone. We were just living our lives.

Zoe told me stories as we drove.

About her childhood. Her dreams. Her fears.

“I used to dream about leaving,” she said. “About getting out of Texas. About seeing the world.”

“And now?”

“Now I’m here.” She smiled. “With you.”

I took her hand, reader. I squeezed it tight.

“I’m glad you’re here,” I said. “I’m glad you’re with me.”

We drove into the mountains.

Winding roads, reader. Snow on the ground. The air was thin and cold.

“Zoe,” I said, “this is where I grew up.”

“It’s beautiful.” She looked around. “It’s so different from Texas.”

“Different how?”

“Different good.” She smiled. “Different free.”

I thought about that, reader. I thought about freedom.

The cold was biting.

Our naked skin protested, reader. Our bodies were shivering.

“We need to stop,” I said. “We need to warm up.”

“Stop where?”

“Anywhere.” I shook my head. “We can’t keep going like this.”

We pulled over, reader. We sat in the car with the heater on.

“Darcy,” Zoe said, “we’re going to make it.”

“I know.” I nodded. “I know we are.”

Our commitment was absolute.

Despite the cold, reader. Despite everything.

“Zoe,” I said, “we’re going to stay naked.”

“I know.” She smiled. “I never doubted it.”

We held each other, reader. We held each other for warmth.

I was confident.

This was my home, reader. This was my territory.

“Zoe,” I said, “I know this place. I know the people. I know everything.”

“Then you know we’re going to be okay.”

“I know.” I nodded. “I know we are.”
