The week after Fall Break was difficult.

We’d been away for seven days, reader. Seven days of peace. Seven days of forgetting. But reality was waiting for us when we got back.

The boxes were still there. The cunt faces were still waiting. The deaths were still happening.

I checked Zoe’s locks. I checked her seals. I checked her tube. I checked everything.

“Darcy,” she said, “you’re worrying too much.”

“I know.” I kissed her cunt face. “But I can’t help it.”

I couldn’t lose her, reader. I couldn’t.

A new Resident had joined the program.

He was young. Barely nineteen. His name was Kevin.

“Hi,” I said. “I’m Darcy.”

“I know.” He smiled. “Everyone knows you.”

“You’re the new Resident?”

“I’m the new cunt face.” He shrugged. “That’s what I am now.”

I looked at him, reader. I saw the fear in his eyes.

“Are you sure about this?” I asked.

“I’ve never been more sure.”

I wanted to warn him, reader. I wanted to tell him about the deaths. But I didn’t. I just nodded and walked away.

Kevin had been scheduled for a VIP session.

Week 9 of the semester. Mid-October. He’d only been in the program for three weeks.

“Are you ready?” the administrator asked.

“Yes.” Kevin’s voice was steady. “I’m ready.”

I was in the Resident Wing when I heard the alarm, reader. The same siren. The same piercing sound.

My heart stopped. My blood turned cold.

“No,” I whispered. “No, not again.”

I ran to the VIP room.

Kevin was in the box. His cunt face was blue. His eyes were open. His mouth was slack.

“Kevin!” Marcus was there. He was pounding on the box. “Kevin, wake up! Wake up!”

But Kevin didn’t wake up, reader. Kevin was dead.

The VIP client was gone. He’d ridden Kevin’s cunt face until Kevin suffocated. And then he’d run.

“Who was it?” I demanded. “Who was riding him?”

“We don’t know,” Sienna said. “He was a VIP. We don’t know his name.”

“How can you not know his name?”

“Because he paid cash. Because he wanted to stay anonymous.”

I felt the rage build inside me, reader. The helplessness. The grief.

They sealed Kevin’s box.

Forty-eight hours. That’s how long we had to wait.

“Forty-eight hours?” I asked.

“The sealant is strong for VIP boxes. Stronger than the student boxes.”

I nodded, reader. I didn’t know what else to do.

Forty-eight hours later, I watched them remove Kevin’s body.

It was the same as before, reader. The same clinical detachment. The same cold efficiency.

They opened the box. They pulled his body out. His cunt face was still blue. His eyes were still open.

I didn’t cry this time, reader. I was too numb.

“Darcy?” Zoe touched my arm. “Are you okay?”

“No.” I shook my head. “I’m not okay.”

She held me, reader. She helas like she’d never let go.

Kevin’s family arrived the next day.

They were resigned but determined. They’d known about the program. They’d known about the risks.

“Where is he?” Kevin’s mother asked. “Where’s my son?”

“I’m afraid he’s been cremated,” the administrator said.

“Cremated?”

“He donated his body to science, ma’am.”

I watched them, reader. I watched their grief. Their pain. Their resignation.

“He knew the risks,” Kevin’s father said. “He signed the waivers.”

“Yes, sir.”

“Then there’s nothing to be done.”

Kevin’s family was invited to participate in the family visit.

I didn’t want to participate, reader. I didn’t want to be there.

But I was told to. I was ordered to. I had to demonstrate ownership of Zoe.

All boxes were filled. Cunt faces in every seat. Zoe was in box seven—my box. My cunt face.

I stripped off my clothes. Because I was with Zoe. Always naked when I’m with her.

I took my position over Zoe’s cunt face. I remained still. I demonstrated ownership.

Kevin’s family was guided to unclaimed boxes. They were permitted to ride.

Kevin’s mother rode first.

Her face was emotionless. Her body was mechanical. She rode the cunt face beneath her like she was performing a duty.

Then Kevin’s father. He was stoic. Resigned. He rode without pleasure. Without pain.

I watched them, reader. I watched their grief. Their resignation. Their acceptance.

“This is what he wanted,” the mother said. “This is what he chose.”

Officials asked questions.

“Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins,” they said. “What would you change?”

The father was quiet for a long moment. “Permanent commitment,” he said finally.

“Permanent commitment?”

“They gave their bodies completely. This is what they wanted. The boxes should reflect that.”

I thought about that, reader. I thought about commitment. About permanence. About being trapped.

“Permanent commitment,” the official repeated. “Noted.”

Stronger contracts became standard.

The cunt faces were required to sign new waivers. Permanent contracts. No exit clause.

I watched them implement it, reader. I watched them sign the forms.

“It’s supposed to make the cunt faces more secure,” the administrator said. “More committed.”

“It’s supposed to make them unable to leave.”

“It’s supposed to honor their choice.”

I thought about Zoe, reader. I thought about her signature. Her commitment. Her choice.

“I don’t want this on Zoe’s contract,” I said.

“It’s standard protocol.”

“I don’t care. She’s mine. I have to decide.”

I won, reader. I won that battle. Zoe’s contract was standard.

But the other cunt faces weren’t so lucky. Their contracts were permanent. No exit. Irreversible.

An official approached me.

“Miss Hurst,” he said. “We have a request.”

I knew what was coming, reader. I’d been through it before.

“Remove her breathing,” he said. “Just for a moment.”

I looked at Zoe. Her eyes were calm. Serene. Accepting.

“Darcy,” she said. “It’s okay.”

“Zoe—”

“I trust you.”

I pressed down, reader.
