Streamed live from 11:58 p.m. GMT, Wednesday 8th January 2014
Kayla Valentine performs “A Woman’s Work,” the theme song from the new movie, “Never Send a Man,” starring Chloë Goodman and John Latham, at the movie’s World Premiere After-Party, 800 feet above London on level 72 of The Shard, London’s tallest building.
11:58 p.m. GMT – 14,218 Live Viewers: The live stream shows an empty stage in the corner of the viewing platform on level 72 of The Shard. Numerous London landmarks can be seen in the background.
CountryBoy5858z: ALABAMA IS HERE. Been waiting all day for this.
BamaBelle92: 6 pm in Huntsville and the whole family is watching:)
Music City Mandy: Kayla singing from the top of the tallest building in London. Our girl is going places.
Mama Bear Alabama: my whole family is crowded round the laptop rn we love you Carly!! (sorry, KAYLA lol old habits)
Chloe Goodman Daily: Chloë AND Kayla on the same stream. I may not survive tonight.
London Film Girl: I’m here because the song from the film is incredible. Never heard of Kayla Valentine before tonight.
Roll Tide Rach: You’re about to learn.
CountryBoy5858z: Look at that stage setup. You can see the London Eye all lit up in the background. And the Houses of Parliament! That view is epic. I’d love to visit London.
Peachy Keen Magnolia: okay but why is she at the top of a BUILDING this is so fancy for her
James Whitaker: Is this actually live? That view cannot be real.
KaylaV Fan Page: It’s live. She posted the link on Facebook ten minutes ago.
Not A Real Cowboy: It is midnight in London. Why are rich people having a concert at midnight?
Emma Louise Parker: Because rich people don’t have bedtimes.
12:00 a.m. – 19,604 Live Viewers: Kayla walks onto the small stage carrying her acoustic guitar. London glows through the glass behind her.
HuntsvilleGirl89: THERE SHE IS
Southern Songs: That dress. That guitar. That view. Perfect.
Chloe Goodman Daily: THE CAMERA JUST SHOWED CHLOË STANDING IN THE FRONT ROW
Sam Bradwell Fan Page: Sam Bradwell is standing next to her!
Movie Score Nerd: John Latham is there, too. This is an absurdly good-looking audience.
Tennessee Tara: Forget the movie stars. Let the girl sing.
KaylaV Fan Page: She looks nervous.
CountryBoy5858z: She always looks nervous for about five seconds. Then she owns the room.
Nash Vegas Girl: Wait, it’s nearly midnight over there?! That means she’s been at this premiere party all night! She looks stunning!
CountryBoy5858z: My girl always looks stunning!
Grits And Gravy Girl: just her and the guitar????? no band??? I’m already crying and she hasn’t even started
Truck Bed Tailgate Tim: London Eye behind her omg it’s actually beautiful there
12:01 a.m. GMT – 19,758 Live Viewers: Kayla begins an acoustic performance of “A Woman’s Work.”
BamaBabexx: OMG she’s starting!
BamaBelle92: OH. Acoustic.
Music City Mandy: That first chord. Yes ma’am.
CountryBoy5858z: THERE she is. The movie version is beautiful but THIS is Kayla Valentine.
Dixie Darlin: THIS is the version I’ve been waiting for. The movie one is pretty but it ain’t HER
London Film Girl: This sounds completely different.
Movie Score Nerd: The film arrangement makes it a huge dramatic theme. This makes it feel like a confession.
Bama Fan Ricky: the way she just strips it all back and it hits ten times harder
Southern Songs: Exactly. Same song. Different truth.
Guitar Strings N Things: Okay, I liked the movie version with all the orchestration and electric guitars, but this acoustic version is EVERYTHING. It’s just her and the guitar, exactly how she belongs.
Real Country Only: They should have used this version in the movie.
Cinephile Chris: No. The film needed the orchestra. This version belongs at midnight with everyone listening.
Roll Tide Rach: The movie version is Kayla standing on a mountain. This is Kayla sitting beside you telling you what happened.
Peachy Keen Magnolia: this is the Kayla we grew up on y’all. the movie soundtrack is nice but this is HOME
Truck Bed Tailgate Tim: those lyrics hit different when it’s just her and six strings
Acoustic Addict: Her voice is so clear without all the production.
Music Lover TN: 100% agree. Without all that heavy movie production, you can really hear how deeply heartbreaking and clever the lyrics are. Her voice is literal perfection
Nashville Nate: People outside country music are finally going to understand why Nashville has been talking about her.
ChloeG News: I genuinely thought she was just a pop singer hired for the film.
CountryBoy5858z: Nope. Alabama country girl.
Movie Score Nerd: the lyrics are actually easier to hear in this version.
Southern Songs: That is the point. The big version makes you feel the danger. This one makes you understand the woman.
James Whitaker: That may be the best live vocal I’ve heard in years.
LeahM 1997: The way she softens the end of every line <3
Dixie Darlin: and the way her voice cracks a lil on the bridge — girl has never once sung a fake note in her life
Claire Hargreaves: I’m at the party. It is completely silent in here. Nobody is even talking at the bar.
Chloe Goodman Daily: Can you see Chloë?
Claire Hargreaves: Front row. Completely transfixed.
London Film Girl: I need this version on the soundtrack.
KaylaV Fan Page: Everybody tell the label. RELEASE THE ACOUSTIC VERSION.
12:05 a.m. – 25,037 Live Viewers: The first song ends. Kayla smiles, thanks the audience and moves directly into a brighter, faster song from the film.
HuntsvilleGirl89: That smile after she finishes destroying us emotionally.
Emma Louise Parker: She just went from heartbreak to sunshine in four chords.
London Film Girl: I remember this from the movie!
Dixie Heartbeat: Wow, straight into an upbeat one! This is so catchy, I already know I’m gonna be humming this at random moments all day tomorrow lol.
Peachy Keen Magnolia: I’m already humming along and I don’t even know the words yet
Cinephile Chris: Same. I didn’t realise it was her singing that one too.
BamaBelle92: This sounds much closer to her second album.
CountryBoy5858z: Yep. This is the Kayla we’re used to hearing on a Saturday morning with the windows down.
Joanna Reed: This song makes me want to go on a road trip and I don’t even drive.
ChloeG News: All right. I might like country music.
Not A Real Cowboy: She is swaying and the whole audience has started swaying with her.
Roll Tide Rach: That is how she gets you.
Nash Vegas Girl: Seeing her up there swaying in time and just smiling with her guitar makes me so happy! She is totally in her element.
Tennessee Tara: Her accent gets stronger when she’s having fun.
Sarah McKenzie: She looks so happy up there.
Hank Williams Ghost: she looks so much lighter singing this one, love seeing her smile like that
