Afterword: The Available Light Cycle
Thank you for reading this one.
Available Light is the first book in the Available Light Cycle: standalone novellas about the same kind of people. The ones who hold up somebody else’s perfect day and then disappear out of the album. Photographers, models, planners, assistants. The working side of beauty.
That description is not mine. It is Sofia’s, out of the proposal she could not make herself send. She was right about it, and she was right about him, and she is going to be right about the next ones as well.
Every book stands alone, and they all happen in the same building, over the same three days. One congress in Prague. Different rooms, different beds, different people holding up somebody else’s day. The same question underneath all of them: what happens when the one doing the looking is finally the one being looked at.
There are two things I did not tell you while the story was running.
The converted theatre where Evan stood on a stage at half past twelve had been in use since nine that morning. A young woman called Tereza had spent two hours in a borrowed dress, holding a face for twenty photographers, and she did not blink once. Evan never met her. He was still somewhere else, changing a sentence he had already changed nine times.
