Chapter 77: Day 103
"Where do we begin?" Tristan inquired as the Company rode towards Southham.
"With Alton at the Three Diamond Inn," Matthias replied.
"I probably should have mentioned this earlier," Tristan said, "but I am unwelcome at the Grinning Griffin in Langford."
"Dari?" Matthias asked.
"Yes. Her father took exception to her being in my bed, despite neither of us achieving our goal."
"We could ride to the Shattered Shield in Thornwick and arrive just after dusk," Matthias suggested. "With seven mounted riders, half in leather or chain armor, as well as a mage, no bandits will even think about attacking."
"Thank you," Tristan said. "I should have said something yesterday when we made our plans."
"No real harm was done," Matthias replied, "but please ensure I have all relevant information."
"I will," Tristan affirmed.
A few hours later, the Company rode past the Grinning Griffin near Langford, eating bread and dried beef, rather than stopping. They continued on to the Shattered Shield, arriving without incident just after sunset. They stabled their horses and went into the inn to discover there were three rooms available. After some discussion, it was agreed Stefan would sleep in the common room; Milos and Karla would share a room; Tristan and Lisette would share a room, but not a bed; and Tyra would share with Matthias.
