Chapter 2

Thirty minutes after the old, crippled lady finished her treatment.

A man wearing a black suit walked into the doctor’s office. He asked if everything went as planned with the first two ‘test subjects’. He was assured it had. The other test subjects would arrive tomorrow morning.

“What is the difference in the dosage?”

“The one you administered this morning contain 500,000 stem cells. That amount is still in the experimental stage. But I’m sure it is harmless. It will probably just cure them quicker, if anything.”

I went home that night not expecting much. My daughter had the check and she was happy. The next morning, I felt no different. I probably got the placebo. That would be my luck. It was the morning of the second day that it happened.

I had made my way into the bathroom and after peeing I turned to wash my hands. In the mirror I saw myself! I washed my hands and decided to shave. It was the first time I shaved myself in months! When I turned to go back into my bedroom there was something else I noticed. The pain in my knee was gone! But more amazingly, I could bend it! I did not need my cane! In my bedroom I changed from my pajamas into my jeans and a work shirt. I walked into the kitchen. My daughter had already left for work but there sat my granddaughter (Nina) and her friend (Joyce) from college, who had spent the night with her. Both girls had on ‘wife-beater’ undershirts and panties! Why not, grandpa is almost blind. Right? I decided to keep my new sight a secret. Neither noticed I was without my cane as I sat at the table. Nina poured me a cup of coffee and sat it in front of me. I was enjoying looking across the table at her friend.
