Chapter 23
BOOM!!!
Ethan Blackthorn was utterly shocked.
If his seven masters had stepped up to protect him, Ethan wouldn’t have been surprised. After all, he was used to living under their protection. But these words had come from Serena Blake.
She was facing a Martial Artist, a man who could kill her with a single blow. Yet she didn’t shrink back. Instead, she stepped forward without the slightest hesitation and made an incredibly bold declaration.
But after the initial shock, Ethan smiled. A sudden warmth spread through his chest, sweet as honey. He had never experienced such a feeling before. He didn’t even know what it was, let alone why it had bloomed inside him.
“Serena, get back. Let me handle this trash!” Ethan said.
“Shut up!” Serena snapped irritably.
Damon Stone was a Martial Artist, after all. She had no idea why this scoundrel was spouting such nonsense.
Damon Stone suddenly let out a sinister laugh. “What, afraid I’ll kill this stinking beggar? Fine, Serena Blake. Let’s talk terms!”
Serena’s heart sank. She hated being threatened. But to protect Ethan right now, she couldn’t afford to care about that.
“What do you want?”
Serena’s voice was frigid, like eternal, unmelting ice. The spacious security room was instantly enveloped in a bone-chilling cold. Everyone knew Serena was truly furious.
But Damon Stone’s grin only grew more hideous. “First, have this stinking beggar apologize to my nephew and cover all his medical expenses. Second, have this stinking beggar get the hell out of the bar, or I’ll beat him every time I see him. Third, drop the matter concerning those two trash security guards. And lastly, spend the night with me. Let me have some fun with you. If you agree, I’ll pretend today never happened. If you don’t, I’ll kill this stinking beggar right now.”
Damon Stone laughed hideously, his greedy gaze sweeping over Serena’s body. He acted as if he had her right where he wanted her.
After all, Serena was now married to this stinking beggar, so those wealthy young masters would naturally stop pursuing her. Not only would they stop pursuing her, but they would actively avoid her. Moreover, the Blake Family had cast her aside like a worn-out shoe. That being the case, what did he have to fear?
A murderous fury instantly clouded Serena’s beautiful face. Even her lovely, almond-shaped eyes blazed with towering rage. She never imagined Damon Stone could be so shameless.
Ethan, however, just laughed. This piece of trash really has a death wish.
“Serena, move aside! I’ll slap this garbage to death with one blow!”
Just as Serena was about to snap back in anger, a chilly voice drifted in from outside.
“A maggot like you dares to covet Serena? Are you tired of living?”
Damon Stone’s heart trembled. He found the voice disturbingly familiar.
Serena, however, was startled, because she had recognized the voice as Victor Langford’s.
Sure enough, Victor Langford strode in.
When Damon Stone saw Victor Langford, he panicked instantly. Of course, he knew who Victor Langford was and was well aware of his background. To put it bluntly, the man could kill him with a flick of his finger. It was for this very reason that Damon Stone grew frantic.
If Victor Langford intended to stand up for Serena, I would have no choice but to take it.
Ethan was baffled by Victor Langford’s arrival. Just that afternoon, this piece of trash had been thoroughly humiliated by Mia Sterling. Any normal person would have been too ashamed to show their face again. But not him. He actually had the gall to appear.
“Young ... Young Master Langford, you ... why are you here?” Damon Stone asked, forcing a smile.
Victor Langford sneered, “What, I can’t be here?”
“I ... I didn’t mean that.”
“Oh? Then what did you mean?”
“I ... I ... I...”
Damon Stone was so anxious he was about to cry. He had heard that Victor Langford’s older brother was a great general under the Warlord of the Western Frontier. Even if he had a hundred times the courage, he wouldn’t dare be disrespectful.
“Enough of your stammering! First, apologize to Serena. Second, get on your knees and apologize to Serena!”
At these words, Damon Stone’s face turned deathly pale. Without another word, he scrambled to kneel before Serena.
Serena moved to stop him, but it was too late.
“President Blake, I’m ... I’m sorry! I’m a fucking idiot! My judgment was clouded! Please, for the sake of all the years I’ve served the bar, just spare me! As long as you let me go, I promise I’ll personally send that beast Zack Stone to prison!”
“Get up,” Serena said coldly. She despised it when people knelt before her.
“No, President Blake, I won’t get up unless you agree,” Damon Stone said, his voice trembling.
“Fine, I agree. You can get up now,” Serena said in a heavy tone.
Damon Stone felt a wave of relief as if he’d been granted a royal pardon and quickly stood up.
However, Victor Langford spoke with a cold smile, “Serena is kind-hearted and willing to forgive you, but that doesn’t mean I’ll forgive your insolence toward her!”
Damon Stone, who had just found his footing, was so scared he almost fell to his knees again. “Young ... Young Master Langford, what ... what do you want?” he asked, his voice shaking with fear.
“Start by slapping yourself a hundred times.”
Damon Stone was on the verge of tears. Having to slap himself in front of Serena Blake, that beggar Ethan Blackthorn, and these security guards he had always looked down on ... The humiliation was worse than death.
But Damon Stone didn’t dare defy Victor Langford’s command, nor did he hesitate for a second. With both hands, he began to frantically slap his own face.
SLAP! SLAP! SLAP! The sharp sounds echoed relentlessly throughout the security office.
“That’s enough, Damon Stone. Just take Zack Stone to the hospital,” Serena said coldly.
But Damon Stone dared not stop. He shot a careful glance at Victor Langford.
Victor Langford glared at him with piercing eyes. “Are you fucking deaf? Didn’t you hear what Serena said?”
Those words were another pardon for Damon Stone. He stopped immediately, gave Victor Langford a deep bow, and then hastily scooped up the nearly lifeless Zack Stone and hurried out.
Victor Langford walked up to Serena with a beaming smile. “Serena, wasn’t that satisfying?”
Serena remained silent, her heart a swirl of complicated emotions. Frankly, Victor Langford’s actions had been cathartic. Not only had they let her vent her anger, but they had also saved Ethan from disaster. Still, the thought that Victor Langford was the one who had resolved the situation left a sour taste in her mouth. She so desperately wished it had been Ethan who had stepped up, that he had been the one to turn the tide. But he hadn’t. He had stayed hidden behind her the entire time. Comparisons, she thought, were truly cruel.
“Victor Langford, thank you for what you did,” Serena said placidly.
“Don’t mention it.”
Serena nodded. “Why are you here? The bar isn’t open yet.”
