Chapter 20
What met Ethan Blackthorn’s eyes was a man of extraordinary bearing. His handsome face, combined with a well-tailored suit, made him appear even more remarkable. At that moment, his gaze was scornfully fixed on Ethan.
When Madison Harrington saw him, it was as if she had seen her own father. She excitedly exclaimed, “Victor Langford, you have to teach this filthy beggar a lesson for me!”
Victor Langford? Ethan suddenly recalled yesterday at the hospital. When Serena told her mother Amelia about her marriage, she had asked if the groom was Julian Voss or Victor Langford. At the time, Ethan had stormed out of the ward in anger, but he still overheard the name. The fact that Serena’s mother mentioned him was enough to show that his relationship with Serena was anything but ordinary.
Thinking of this, Ethan unobtrusively took another look at him. This look, however, took him aback. The man was indeed handsome, but his brow concealed an evil aura invisible to the ordinary person. This was clearly the nefarious aura of someone who had dealt with poisons for many years. Ethan’s thoughts suddenly turned to the Love Venom Hex inside Serena Blake. Could this piece of trash be responsible for it?
Upon hearing Madison’s words, Victor Langford smiled casually. “Don’t worry. A mere beggar is no real threat.”
As soon as he spoke, Madison felt emboldened. She said arrogantly, “You filthy beggar, let me introduce you. The man standing before you is Victor Langford, the second young master of the Langford Family, a prominent family in Silverton City. His older brother is a general under the Warlord of the Western Frontier. Killing trash like you is easier than crushing a bug.”
Ethan shrugged dismissively. “So what?”
The Warlord of the Western Frontier might be powerful, but he was scarcely worth a glance from Ethan. Besides, the so-called Warlord was merely a subordinate of his own senior brother.
“So, you’d better get on your goddamn knees and apologize this instant! Otherwise, Young Master Langford will end you in a minute!”
Ethan’s gaze fell on Victor Langford. “What, are you going to stand up for her?”
“Stand up for her? I’m merely drawing my sword to right an injustice,” Victor Langford replied, looking down on Ethan from on high.
Ethan laughed. “Drawing your sword to right an injustice? You’re not worth shit.”
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone present was shocked. No one could believe Ethan would dare say such a thing. Lucian Sterling was even more flabbergasted. He could dismiss Madison, but he could not afford to ignore Victor Langford. Setting aside the Langford Family’s power, the mere fact that Victor’s older brother was a general under the Warlord of the Western Frontier was enough to keep Lucian from acting rashly.
Madison, on the other hand, began to smirk maliciously. She couldn’t believe this filthy beggar actually dared to insult Victor Langford. If this isn’t courting death, what is?
“You filthy beggar, you’re fucking dead now! Young Master Langford, kill him!”
At some point, Victor Langford’s eyes had become as sharp as daggers, fixed on Ethan with a piercing, sinister gaze.
“I’ll give you a chance to rephrase that,” Victor Langford said coldly.
Ethan thought for a moment before speaking indifferently, “My apologies. I did misspeak just now. I shouldn’t have said that you’re not worth shit.”
Madison smirked triumphantly. And here I thought this filthy beggar was so defiant. I didn’t expect him to cave so quickly. But she was not about to let Ethan off just because he seemed to concede. “Young Master Langford, this trash insulted you. Even though he’s backing down, you can’t let him off easily.”
Victor Langford sneered, “I never intended to let this trash off so easily!”
At that, Ethan smiled. “Don’t be so hasty, I haven’t finished. I said you’re not worth shit, and that was indeed my mistake. I wasn’t clear enough. To be precise, you are shit!”
Victor Langford’s face turned ashen. His eyes glinted with an even more sinister light. Yes, Victor was thoroughly infuriated. Never in his life had he been so humiliated by a beggar. This was an affront he naturally couldn’t swallow.
Just as he was about to explode, Lucian Sterling, who was standing to the side, suddenly intervened. “Young Master Langford, I know you’re angry, but be the bigger man. He’s just a beggar, why stoop to his level? If you killed him today, people wouldn’t be impressed; they’d just think you’re a bully throwing your weight around. How about this? Let him apologize, and we can just let this matter drop.”
These words actually moved Ethan slightly. He hadn’t expected Lucian to stand up for him.
However, after hearing Lucian’s suggestion, Victor rebuked him furiously, “Lucian Sterling, who the fuck do you think you are? Does this have anything to do with you? Get the hell away from me.”
“Young Master Langford, please calm down. Our young miss said to value harmony in all things,” Lucian said, forcing a smile.
“Fuck! Trying to use Mia Sterling to pressure me? Let me tell you, I’m not fucking scared!”
Lucian fell silent.
Madison, that troublemaker, suddenly grinned maliciously. “You filthy beggar, you’re fucking dead! Who would have thought that bitch Serena Blake would have to live like a widow right after getting married? This is absolutely delightful!”
Victor Langford was momentarily stunned. “Madison, what do you mean? What does this filthy beggar have to do with Serena Blake?”
“Young Master Langford, you don’t know? Serena Blake married a filthy beggar,” Madison said proudly.
“I’m aware of that,” Victor Langford responded indifferently.
“This filthy beggar is the one that bitch Serena Blake married!” Madison said, growing even more smug.
The look in Victor Langford’s eyes instantly turned malevolent. New hatred piled upon old. Just as he was about to burst, he noticed something off about Madison’s laughter.
“Madison, how exactly did Serena Blake end up marrying this filthy beggar?” Victor Langford asked coldly.
“It was all thanks to me!” Madison boasted proudly.
BOOM!
Rage erupted in Victor Langford’s heart. When he received the news yesterday afternoon that Serena Blake had married a filthy beggar, he had been so furious he felt like he was going to explode. If he hadn’t had other business to attend to at home, he would have gone to find Serena right then and there to demand what the hell was going on. But to think that after all this, the source of the trouble that nearly drove him insane was this bitch, Madison Harrington.
Containing the raging fury in his heart, Victor asked with a smile, “How exactly did you convince Serena to marry a beggar?”
“I drugged that bitch with an aphrodisiac and let this filthy beggar ruin her. Then I forced that slut to marry him,” Madison said with a triumphant look.
“So, you were the one who forced her,” Victor said, a thoughtful, almost playful look on his face.
“Of course! A bitch like Serena Blake deserves to be married to a filthy beggar!” Madison boasted.
As she said this, a terrifying glint flashed through Victor Langford’s eyes.
The next second, he whipped his hand back and slapped Madison fiercely across the face.
SLAP!
After the crisp sound, Madison slammed onto the ground.
If it weren’t for the last vestige of sanity reminding him to restrain himself, Victor would have killed the wretched woman on the spot. Damn it. His long-planned scheme was ruined by this bitch.
