Chapter 13
Serena Blake was completely speechless.
How could this shameless jerk say such things? A venomous hex? Why couldn’t he come up with something even more outrageous? She had only ever heard of things like that in movies and TV shows. Where would you find something like that in real life? It was obvious this jerk was just trying to take advantage of her, which was why he came up with such an outlandish story. Besides, even if it did exist, what would a beggar like him know about it, anyway?
“Shameless jerk, can’t you come up with something even more ridiculous?”
“Ridiculous? Honey, I’m not lying. You’ve really been cursed with a Love Venom Hex. This curse will take control of your mind, turning you into a complete puppet of the one who planted it.”
“You...”
Serena couldn’t bring herself to finish. She shot Ethan a furious glare and yanked her hand away from his.
Ethan muttered to himself, “I didn’t feel it when we merged this afternoon. How did it suddenly grow so big?”
He looked at Serena with suspicion. Suddenly, a thought struck him.
“I get it! After we merged, my ... essence entered your body. That essence is the most nourishing substance in the world. The hex must have absorbed the nutrients from it, which is why it grew so large in such a short amount of time.”
BOOM!
Serena’s mind went completely blank. She wasn’t shocked, just utterly speechless. In her wildest dreams, she could never have imagined Ethan would say something so brain-dead and idiotic.
Furious, Serena slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a screeching halt. Then she stared at him, her pretty face etched with fury.
Seeing how angry she was, Ethan chuckled. “Alright, I was just kidding. But haven’t you noticed? Ever since we merged, your cheeks have become especially supple and dewy.”
That part was actually true. When Serena had been washing her face at the bar earlier, she had noticed that her skin felt particularly hydrated and looked even more radiant than before. But she wasn’t about to believe his nonsense.
“Shut up! I’m warning you, if you ever dare say such thoughtless things again, I’ll divorce you immediately!” Serena said, her voice as cold as ice.
Ethan sighed helplessly. He knew she didn’t believe him, but that wasn’t the main issue. The real problem was that the hex hidden near her heart was already beginning to emerge from its cocoon. Once it broke free, Serena would be completely under its control.
What frustrated Ethan even more was that he couldn’t use his Dragon Blood to cure her, as it would only accelerate the hex’s evolution. This meant he had to rely on his medical skills. Yet Serena didn’t trust him in the slightest, let alone allow him to treat her. After all, the treatment required her to remove her shirt, or at the very least, expose the skin over her heart.
Am I supposed to just stand by and watch her die?
Ethan simply couldn’t do that. It wasn’t just because ninety percent of his cultivation was still inside her. Besides, she was his wife now. Ethan couldn’t just stand by and do nothing.
No, I have to find a way to treat her!
Just then, the car passed by an incredibly luxurious villa district. A flash of envy appeared in Serena’s eyes.
Ethan noticed it and asked with a smile, “Honey, do you like this place?”
“What’s it to you?” Serena snapped.
“No, I mean, if you like it, I can buy one for you.”
Pfft!
Serena burst out laughing, though it was a laugh of pure frustration. She couldn’t believe this guy. He really would say anything. Buy her one?
This villa district was called Dragon’s Crest Estates, and it was the most exclusive one in all of Silverton City. It was a personal project of Mia Sterling, the beloved daughter of the Sterling family. There were only eighteen villas in total, all of them fully constructed and exquisitely furnished — truly move-in ready.
Serena dreamed of buying a house here for her mother. It would be her way of proving to everyone at the Blake family estate that she and her mother were living just as well as, if not better than, them. But the homes here were far too expensive. Unless she could get the Blake Corporation back, she could never afford one.
“Do you have any idea how much one of these villas costs?” Serena asked irritably.
“How much?” Ethan asked curiously.
“Hmph. Even the cheapest one costs over a hundred million.”
Ethan just smiled. “That’s cheap enough.”
