Chapter 16: The Claw Machine King and The Oceanfront Villa

Five minutes later, Isabella “Bella” Harrington arrived.

“I’m sorry, collecting rent is exhausting,” Bella complained. Rent collection was truly tiring work.

“Yeah,” Ethan agreed wholeheartedly. He had only collected rent from one commercial street, while Bella had to manage ten buildings. That was on another level.

After wandering around The Shops at Hudson Yards with Bella for half the day, Ethan waited outside while she went to get her car. She wanted to take him to a special restaurant she liked.

“Is it him?”

At that moment, a young man also walked out of the mall and was surprised to see Ethan standing there.

This was the same guy who had tried to impress a pretty woman earlier by scolding Ethan. He had attempted to step on Ethan to win the girl’s favor, only to get reprimanded himself and humiliated in public.

“I need to regain my dignity,” Julian Blake resolved as he walked toward Ethan.

“Hey man, you waiting for a ride too?”

Ethan glanced at him and nodded.

“I’m waiting for my girlfriend’s car. She went to get it,” Julian boasted.

“What do you do for work?”

“No job,” Ethan replied.

“No job, huh? I envy you. I have to grind as an assistant manager at a Fortune 500 company,” Julian said “humbly.”

“My annual salary isn’t much — just two or three hundred thousand.”

Several bystanders overheard and stopped in their tracks.

Two or three hundred thousand wasn’t much?

Seeing the envious looks from the crowd, Julian felt proud.

Just as he was about to continue, his phone rang.

“What? Manager Carter, I’ve revised the proposal seven times already and you want more changes?”

“And it has to be done by tonight?!”

Julian was overwhelmed. He had been working day and night on this proposal, only for his boss to keep rejecting it.

Revising it would take at least five days. Finishing it by tonight would be pure torture.

“If you don’t finish it, don’t bother coming in tomorrow.”

A harsh voice came through the phone.

Before Julian could respond, his boss hung up.

The once-smug Julian now looked devastated.

“Why am I so unlucky? After finally working my way up to assistant manager, my boss keeps riding me, and my girlfriend constantly calls me useless.”

Julian complained bitterly.

Hearing this, the people around continued murmuring.

Ethan chimed in:

“Actually, the most important thing is to live freely and do what you want. That’s the happiest way.”

“I had an unpleasant job before too. My boss targeted me, so I resigned, and now I’m doing just fine.”

Before the System, Ethan had done part-time work but quit after being targeted by his supervisor.

“Huh?”

After hearing Ethan’s words, Julian suddenly had a realization.

“Yeah, life is short. You have to live freely and not be tied down.”

“To hell with the job. To hell with the girlfriend.”

With that thought, Julian picked up his phone and called his boss.

“You garbage, good-for-nothing, bald-headed jerk — screw you. No need to say it, I quit!”

After venting, Julian felt immensely relieved.

As he put down his phone, he saw his girlfriend pulling up. Remembering how many times she had complained about him and even verbally abused him, Julian shouted:

“Sophia, we’re breaking up!”

“Feels awesome ... just awesome!”

Julian took a deep breath, feeling on top of the world.

“So what did you do after you quit?” Julian asked curiously.

“After quitting?”

“I moved into The Sovereign Villas at Hudson Lake,” Ethan said casually.

Hearing this, Julian was stunned.

The Sovereign Villas at Hudson Lake — wasn’t that the most exclusive ultra-luxury gated community in the tri-state area?

So this guy was actually a rich second-generation heir?

“Ethan, let’s go.”

While Julian was still dazed, a striking red Lamborghini pulled up smoothly in front of Ethan.

In Julian’s stunned gaze, Ethan got into the car and drove off with Bella.

“A gorgeous girl and a Lamborghini?”

Julian’s mind was blown.

So he really was a rich second-generation with a wealthy, beautiful girlfriend too!

“No ... no!”

Suddenly, Julian realized something terrifying.

Ethan could quit freely because he had a massive family fortune backing him.

But Julian? Once he quit, he had nothing.

“Julian Blake, I told you already — there’s no breaking up, only widowhood!”

By now, his girlfriend Sophia had snapped out of it. She got out of the car and stormed over with murderous intent.

Keep in mind — Sophia was a professional boxing coach.

“You said you wanted to break up? I’ll make it happen!”

She threw a punch.

“Nooo...”

Julian screamed miserably as he fell to the ground.

Bella took Ethan to dinner, and the two chatted happily over the meal.

“In a few days, I’m going to the beach with my friends. I haven’t gone swimming in so long.”

Manhattan was close to beautiful coastal areas.

“Yeah, by the way, Ethan, do you want to come along?” Bella asked coyly, batting her eyes at him.

“The beach ... let me think.”

Ethan considered it.

Should he go?

Suddenly, the System’s voice sounded.

[Punch-in Task]

[Task Content: Head to The Eastern Shores Seaview Villas and punch in. Task Duration: 2 days]

[Reward: Ownership of No .1 Oceanfront Villa at The Eastern Shores (the premier seaview villa in the region)]

“Seaview villa?”

“And it’s at The Eastern Shores Seaview Villas?”

Ethan was pleasantly surprised.

He already had a main villa to live in, but he lacked a proper recreational oceanfront property.

A top-tier seaview villa would be incredibly comfortable.

“Going with Bella? Of course I’m in,” Ethan nodded.

Who cared about villas? What mattered was having fun with Bella.

“Great!”

Hearing Ethan agree, Bella was ecstatic.

Although the girls had agreed not to bring boyfriends or outsiders...

The moment Ethan said yes, Bella immediately threw that agreement out the window.

Forget the rules — fun came first.

“When the time comes, we can rent a seaview villa and have a good time for a few days,” Bella started planning.

“No need to rent. You can just stay at my villa,” Ethan suggested.
