Chapter 15: The Scratch-Off Ticket That Changed Everything

“No money? Then you’d better start preparing for his funeral.”

Dr. Nathan Lexington said harshly.

“You...”

Logan clenched his fist, shaking with rage.

“No...”

Logan’s mother was consumed by grief. Lily hugged her tightly, crying, completely helpless.

“Sigh.”

Even the nurse couldn’t bear to watch anymore and let out a long sigh, but she was powerless to intervene.

Dr. Nathan Lexington was infamous in the hospital for being cold and heartless. He wasn’t a real doctor in anyone’s eyes, but no one could touch him — he was Vice President Harlan’s cousin.

What could a regular nurse do?

Many nurses and doctors deeply disliked him. Some had reported him multiple times, but the result was always the same: Lexington walked away unscathed while the whistleblower got fired.

This was reality.

A series of footsteps approached.

Ethan walked over carrying the black plastic bag.

“What’s going on?”

Seeing Logan’s despair and Lily and her mother’s helplessness, Ethan asked.

Logan quickly explained the situation.

“You don’t deserve to be a doctor,” Ethan said coldly to Dr. Lexington after listening.

Ethan had respect for real doctors — not for beasts like this one.

Looking at Ethan, Dr. Lexington sneered with disdain.

“Just a kid who hasn’t even grown up yet.”

“It’s only $500,000. I’ll pay it,” Ethan said calmly.

“Hmph.”

Dr. Lexington didn’t believe him at all. A kid around twenty years old, probably just a college student, casually offering $500,000?

“Carrying a garbage bag? Did you just come back from begging?”

Dr. Lexington mocked him relentlessly.

The nurse beside him also shook her head. She didn’t believe a young man like Ethan could produce that kind of money on the spot.

$500,000 was no small amount!

“Here.”

Ethan tossed the black plastic bag in front of Dr. Lexington.

Using a garbage bag to hold money?

Who would believe that?

“The money inside, who would believe ... huh...?”

Dr. Lexington sneered, but halfway through his sentence, his eyes caught what was inside the bag.

He quickly opened it and froze in complete shock.

The large bag was stuffed full of cash — at least $500,000 to $600,000.

“How is this possible?”

Dr. Lexington’s eyes bulged, full of disbelief.

Using a garbage bag for money — how disrespectful to cash!

The little nurse stood on her tiptoes and peeked over.

“Ah!”

She let out a scream.

A whole bag full of money. This was the first time she had ever seen anything like it.

Damn rich people.

Just then, a group of people came striding over.

“Mr. Reynolds, ahead is our top operating room, equipped with the latest instruments. Saving lives is our mission.”

The director of Elysian Hospital, Dr. Harlan Whitaker, was leading a group of hospital executives while escorting a middle-aged man.

“What’s that?”

The middle-aged man pointed ahead in surprise.

The executives turned and their faces changed. Why was one of their doctors staring at a garbage bag in front of the operating room?

Vice President Harlan recognized Dr. Lexington immediately and hurried over.

“What are you doing?” he scolded his cousin.

“Huh?”

Dr. Lexington finally snapped out of it. By now, the executives and Mr. Reynolds had already approached.

“He’s using money to humiliate me!” Dr. Lexington immediately twisted the facts.

“Delaying my surgery.”

Vice President Harlan turned a cold gaze toward Ethan.

“Using money to humiliate a doctor? You’re insulting all of us.”

Not wanting to waste time on them, Ethan turned to the hospital executives.

“Get the best doctor for the surgery.”

Huh?

The executives were stunned, as if he was giving them orders.

Was this kid crazy?

“Who do you think you are? How dare you...” Vice President Harlan grew even angrier at being ignored and started reprimanding him harshly.

But before he could finish, the middle-aged man they were escorting suddenly spoke with great respect:

“Are you ... Mr. Ethan Caldwell?”

Mr. Reynolds stepped forward politely.

“I’m Marcus Reilly, department manager at Summit Capital.”

“Didn’t you hear Mr. Caldwell? Quickly get the best doctor for the surgery.”

Seeing that Ethan remained silent, Marcus Reilly immediately understood and ordered loudly.

Everyone present was dumbfounded.

Especially Vice President Harlan, who was utterly stunned.

Finally, Director Harlan Whitaker personally entered the operating room.

As an experienced specialist with over thirty years of practice, he had spent more time on the operating table than anyone else in the hospital.

Forty minutes later, the surgery was successfully completed.

In the director’s office, Ethan sat down while all the hospital executives and Marcus Reilly stood respectfully.

“Mr. Caldwell, do you think we should withdraw our investment?” Marcus Reilly asked.

He had come on behalf of Summit Capital to evaluate whether to continue investing in Elysian Hospital.

As the fourth-largest shareholder, Ethan naturally had the final say.

Moreover, Marcus had already informed President Zachary Grant about encountering Ethan here. Zachary immediately instructed him to follow Ethan’s lead on all matters.

This was a golden opportunity for Zachary to win Ethan over.

“Hmm?”

After hearing Marcus, Ethan glanced at Director Whitaker.

Director Whitaker immediately understood.

“Dr. Nathan Lexington and Vice President Harlan — both of you are dismissed. I’m well aware of your actions in this hospital over the years.”

“Just wait for the court summons.”

Director Whitaker spoke sternly. The evidence he held was enough to put them away for ten years.

“What?”

Dr. Lexington collapsed to the ground, trembling all over.

“No! Please, no!”

Vice President Harlan also shouted desperately.

It was over. Everything was finished.

“Handle the rest yourselves.”

Ethan wasn’t interested in the remaining details. He gave Marcus Reilly one instruction and left the office to visit Logan’s family in the ward.

The moment they saw him, Logan’s mother kept thanking him profusely.

“Thank you, Ethan.”

Lily hugged him tightly. Without him, her father would have been gone.
