Chapter 10: The Koenigsegg Humiliation
That night, as Ethan and Bella were heading back to Villa No. 1, Maddie Hale and Lexi Moreau suddenly asked if they could tag along.
Ethan agreed without hesitation.
Julian Prescott’s two remaining male friends looked on with open envy.
Seeing their expressions, Ethan quickly called General Manager Reynolds and had Villa No. 9 opened for them.
“Brother Ethan, you’re incredible!”
“Ethan, we really admire you.”
The two guys thanked him profusely. They had always dreamed of staying in one of the private villas at The Horizon Lake Resort — even their own fathers had never managed it.
“Handsome and generous!” they gushed. “If you ever need anything, just say the word. Our families have serious connections in Manhattan real estate and finance. One call and it’s done.”
Ethan ignored Julian completely and led Bella, Maddie, and Lexi straight into Villa No. 1.
“Julian ... we gotta bounce,” his last two “allies” said, then practically sprinted toward Villa No. 9.
“Traitors! All of you are traitors!!!” Julian stomped his foot in rage.
How had every single one of his friends switched sides in less than twenty-four hours?
The next day the group spent the entire morning playing at the resort. This time the dynamic had completely flipped. Ethan was the undisputed center of attention — Bella, Maddie, and Lexi all orbiting around him while Julian trailed behind like a lonely, bitter shadow.
In the afternoon they finally left The Horizon Lake Resort.
Julian’s mood lifted the second they were back on the road. This was his turf — Manhattan. He was already planning how to teach Ethan a lesson and remind everyone who the real boss was.
No matter how handsome Ethan was, there was no way he could be richer than a Prescott.
Before Julian could open his mouth, Ethan spoke first.
“No need — Bella’s driving me back to The Sovereign Villas at Hudson Lake. You guys head out.”
The Sovereign Villas at Hudson Lake?
Julian thought he must have misheard.
“Ethan lives at The Sovereign Villas?!” Maddie and Lexi gasped. “That’s insane! Even the biggest names in New York can’t just buy their way in there.”
Ethan shrugged. “It’s alright. The place is just okay.”
Just okay?!
Julian felt like he wanted to disappear. He had spent the entire trip trying to flex on someone who casually lived in one of the most exclusive gated communities in the country.
He had been showing off in front of an actual super tycoon.
The humiliation burned.
“Turns out Ethan’s a low-key hidden billionaire,” Maddie said sincerely. “There aren’t many people like that.”
Maddie and Lexi were now looking at Ethan with completely different eyes — the kind of gaze that said they were ready to cling.
“Gotta go,” Ethan said quickly, sensing the danger. Handsome guys had to protect themselves out here.
He and Bella left first.
After dropping Ethan off at his mansion, Bella drove away in an excellent mood. After this trip, her relationship with Ethan had clearly moved forward. She was getting closer.
Keep going, Bella. You’ve got this, she told herself with a determined little smile. Ethan, you can’t escape me.
Meanwhile, at The Hudson View Pavilion, Serena Blake was trapped in a private room, helplessly enduring a barrage of questions from her relatives.
“Serena, you’re twenty-four already. It’s time to settle down.”
“Serena, want your aunt to introduce you to someone nice?”
If it weren’t for her cousin’s birthday and her family forcing her to attend, Serena would never have shown up.
“Fine, fine — I’ll be honest,” she finally said, exasperated. “I already have a boyfriend. No need for introductions.”
Her relatives immediately perked up.
“Bring him over! Auntie will give you some advice.”
“Yeah, let’s meet him!”
“I’m dying to know what kind of guy finally caught our proud little Serena.”
Serena’s plan to shut them up had backfired spectacularly.
“Okay, okay,” she muttered, using the excuse of making a phone call to escape outside.
