Chapter 94: The Kingdom Started Rotting

The simple cloak wrapped around Lannor’s body was blasted away by the Aard.

Steel bracers groaned under the clash between raw force and magical pressure. The crude iron buckles linking armor plates together screeched and rattled.

But behind the raised forearm, those cat eyes remained utterly still.

The Gene Seed nested deep within his chest coordinated the body’s entire biochemical response.

Muscle efficiency surged. Hormones flooded through flesh and blood like wildfire.

“Thump.”

The heartbeat rolled through his body, heavy enough to feel in the bones.

The instant he collided with Berengar’s Aard Sign, nearly two hundred kilograms of armored weight had been hurled clean off the ground.

But as Lannor adjusted his center of gravity and drove his weight downward, the moment his boots scraped against the floor again, the strength in his frame detonated all at once.

“Screech!”

Leather boots grinding against stone shrieked hard enough to hurt the ears.

More than two hundred kilograms of force?

And you think I can’t hold against it?

His right fist clenched tight beside his waist, like a warhammer waiting to crash forward.

When Lannor first moved, less than three steps separated him from Berengar.

The Aard blast had knocked him back another pace.

But his charging momentum covered three steps in a single bound.

And for the last step, a punch alone would reach.

Berengar still maintained the Wolf School technique, sustaining the pressure of the Aard.

Now he was trapped.

On one hand, he had no elixirs in his veins and no equipment on him. The Sign’s power had already reached its limit.

On the other hand, if he dropped the Sign now, judging by the look in that Bear cub’s eyes ... that punch, compressed and primed beneath the Aard’s pressure, would probably smash his skull apart outright.

But just as Berengar stared grimly at the right fist tucked beside Lannor’s waist, a blur suddenly flashed across his vision.

“You bastard! Cheap trick!”

Berengar’s pupils contracted violently as realization hit him.

The Aard Sign spread outward like a cone. The closer one got to the witcher casting it, the narrower its effective area became.

And at this distance, Lannor could simply extend part of his body beyond the Sign’s strongest pressure.

The true attack was not the right fist.

It was the left hand snapping outward.

His left palm hooked inward like a tiger’s claw. Freed from the opposing pressure, it moved at least twice as fast as the rest of his body.

To Berengar, it looked less like a strike and more like a whip cracking through the air.

Smack.

Berengar’s jaw twisted sideways. His slit pupils rolled upward involuntarily while saliva burst from the corner of his mouth.

The old witcher felt the world pitch violently around him, light flickering bright and dim.

A strike to the jaw.

Dizziness was inevitable.

The moment his concentration broke, the Sign collapsed.

Lannor instantly lost all resistance.

Berengar’s legs had already gone weak, but before he could collapse to the floor: Bang.

Lannor’s right hand clamped onto the side of his face mid-fall and drove him straight into the wall.

Though, to be fair, a witcher truly was a magically enhanced killing machine.

The blow to the jaw had dazed Berengar, but the impact of his skull smashing against the wall under Lannor’s grip shocked him partially back to clarity.

He struggled instinctively for a moment, only to realize that in raw strength alone, he could not overpower the man behind him in the slightest.

So the ageless witcher abruptly stopped resisting altogether, like a man giving up on life.

“Hah ... hah ... you son of a bitch. What now? Bear School taking Cat School contracts these days? And they sent some new mutation experiment after me? Figures. Witchers were always a pack of monsters who never gave a damn about human lives.”

Perhaps because he no longer believed he would survive, Berengar’s voice came out sharp and venomous.

Among the witcher schools, the School of the Cat suffered the worst mental instability from mutation.
