I am sitting in my office with Sue sitting in a chair in front of my desk when my secretary busses me and says Mr. Garrett, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, has arrived for my meeting. Sue stands at the corner of my desk as I welcome him in and offer him a seat. He starts the conversation, “So what’s the problem that is so important that I had to cancel my golf game this morning?”
“I am sorry to have to tell you that it has to do with my wife, Sue.”
He looked at Sue but she avoided his gaze and looked at me saying, “Bobby, I’m so sorry. I went to her for help. I don’t know what happened. She made it sound like part of the treatment. That it would help me, help us. I’m sorry please forgive me!” Sue started to cry and I handed her a box of tissues.
“What has your marriage problems got to do with me.”
“Mr. Garrett I know Dr. Lilith Crane, a member of the Board and a stockholder in the company is also your god-daughter. I thought it best that I tell you personally what has happened and what I am going to do.” “Oh no! What has Lilith done now?”
I like that reply! This is not going to be the first time he has been tasked with saving her! I look over at Sue. When I see him follow my gaze I pick up my phone and sit it back on the receiver. My secretary buzzes me back. I say I will be right there. I apologize to Mr. Garrett and say I need to help with a customer. I hurried out of the office and shut the door behind me. I winked at my secretary and ducked into the storage closet that I had spent all day yesterday converting into an observation post into my office. There was a stepladder from which I could look into what was a fake air-conditioning vent in my office. I could see and hear everything that was going on in there!
“So, tell me Sue, what did Lilith and you do that has so upset Bobby?”
“I went to Lilith for help. You know, with what Mr. Lincoln forced me to do. Lilith seduced me. Please believe me, I did not want her affection. She made it seem so right, like it was part of my treatment.”
Sue was starting to cry again.
“How did Bobby find out?”
“At first Lilith and I only met in her office for my appointments. That’s where we ... you know, made love, on her couch. But last week Bobby went out of town for a few nights. Lilith invited me over to her house. Like a fool, I went. That first night she stripped me then sat me on a machine she calls a Sybian. You know what that is?”
“Yes, go on,” said Garrett as he shifted uncomfortably in his chair.
