Chapter 21
Pain! My head ached, and I wanted to open my eyes, but I was afraid that the pain would become more severe if I did. I could hear sounds. Someone was walking with rubber soled shoes. I could hear the squish-squish of the tread on the floor. There was a voice that sounded far away. I couldn’t make out the words, only the mumble of sound from a human voice. Again, I reentered my world of darkness.
Slowly, I opened my eyes. The pain in my head skyrocketed, and I quickly closed them. I slowly became aware of the smells around me, quickly identifying alcohol and disinfectant. I tried to open my eyes again, but still the pain was too much. I did get a glimpse of the white wall across from me, but that was all.
