Chapter 6

The walk back from the heart of the Crystal Cave felt very different from the way in.

Earlier, Leo had moved cautiously through the glowing tunnels, his Pulse Blaster ready and his nerves stretched tight. Every shadow had looked like a monster waiting to jump out.

Now the cave was silent.

Crystal shards glittered across the floor where the Scorpion Queen had fallen. The giant pillars of glowing minerals hummed softly, filling the cavern with a faint blue light.

Behind Leo floated the Power Crystal, held inside a small energy field generated by Guide-Bot.

Zip walked beside him, occasionally jumping up and trying to touch the glowing barrier.

“So shiny,” the little alien said for the tenth time.

Leo chuckled.

“Yeah, yeah. I get it. It’s shiny.”

He couldn’t stop looking at it either.

The crystal was taller than his torso, and inside it a swirling storm of blue energy rotated like a tiny galaxy.

Guide-Bot had already explained what it was.

“Primary power source for advanced technology.”

Leo translated that in his head.

“Basically ... the battery for my spaceship.”

They reached the cave entrance.

Bright sunlight flooded into the tunnel, forcing Leo to squint for a moment.

Outside, Planet Zerath stretched across the horizon.

The purple forests swayed gently in the wind. The two moons were now higher in the sky, glowing faintly in the daylight.

And parked exactly where Leo had left it stood the massive silver spaceship.

Zip froze.

His ears lifted straight up.

“You have a spaceship,” he said slowly.

Leo scratched the back of his head.

“I guess I do.”

Guide-Bot floated beside him.

“Player vessel: Explorer-01.”

Leo grinned.

“Sounds official.”

They walked across the valley toward the ship.

The metal surface reflected the strange purple landscape like a mirror.

As Leo approached, the ship recognized him.

The large door slid open with a soft mechanical hiss.

A calm computerized voice spoke from hidden speakers.

WELCOME BACK, COMMANDER.

Leo stopped mid-step.

“ ... Commander?”

Zip giggled.

“Oooo fancy.”

Leo shrugged.

“I could get used to that.”

They stepped inside.

The Reactor Chamber

The command chamber looked the same as before—circular walls, glowing floor panels, and the huge panoramic window showing space above the planet.

But something had changed.

The ship was alive now.

Lights flickered across the consoles.

Power conduits along the walls glowed faintly blue.

Systems that had been dark before were now active.

Guide-Bot floated toward the center of the room.

“Power Crystal installation required.”

The floor panels slid apart with a smooth mechanical motion.

From below, a cylindrical platform slowly rose upward.

At its center sat a hollow chamber surrounded by empty crystal sockets.

Leo looked down at the floating crystal.

“So this goes in there?”

“Correct.”

The energy shield around the crystal faded.

Leo carefully grabbed it with both hands.

The moment his fingers touched its surface, he felt a strange vibration travel through his arms.

The crystal was warm.

Almost like it was alive.

“Whoa,” he whispered.

Zip leaned closer.

“Does it bite?”

“No.”

Leo lifted the crystal and lowered it into the center socket.

The moment it clicked into place—

The ship erupted with light.

Blue energy exploded outward from the reactor chamber.

Power lines along the floor ignited like lightning racing through the metal.

The entire ship hummed with incredible energy.

Engines deep inside the hull roared to life.

Leo stepped back.

“Okay that’s loud.”

A giant holographic screen appeared above the reactor.

SYSTEM UPGRADE COMPLETE

Power Crystal Reactor Installed

New Systems Unlocked:

• Interplanetary Travel
• Ship Upgrade System
• Navigation Interface
• Weapon Systems (Basic)

Leo stared at the screen.

“ ... Okay this game just got serious.”

Zip bounced excitedly.

“Spaceship adventure!”

Guide-Bot displayed another panel.

SHIP STATUS

Vessel: Explorer-01
Reactor Power: 100%
Engine Output: Online
Weapons: Plasma Cannons (Basic)
Hull Integrity: 100%

Leo circled the reactor slowly.

“So this thing powers the whole ship.”

Guide-Bot confirmed.

“The Power Crystal generates enough energy for warp travel.”

Leo froze.

“Warp travel?”

“Yes.”

Leo laughed.

“Okay that’s awesome.”

Learning the Controls

The main control console lit up as Leo approached.

The circular interface glowed blue under his hands.

Dozens of holographic controls appeared.

Throttle indicators.

Navigation charts.

Weapon systems.

Shield status.

It looked complicated—but somehow Leo understood it immediately.

Another system message appeared.

FLIGHT MECHANICS UNLOCKED

Pilot Controls Available

Guide-Bot floated beside him.

“The Cosmic Quest system provides intuitive piloting assistance.”

Leo nodded.

“Good, because I’ve never flown a spaceship before.”

Zip climbed onto a chair near the window.

“I want to see space!”

Leo smiled.

“You’re about to.”

He placed his hands on the control ring.

The ship responded instantly.

A star map appeared above the console.

It showed the entire local star system.

Several planets orbited the central star.

Asteroid belts glowed like scattered rings.

Space stations floated between worlds.

One planet blinked green.

Guide-Bot highlighted it.

“Recommended destination.”

Leo leaned closer.

“What’s that one?”

“Planet Arkon.”

Zip tilted his head.

“What’s on Arkon?”

“Early mission zones, settlements, and player activity.”

Leo raised an eyebrow.

“Players?”

Guide-Bot did not elaborate.

Instead, the navigation interface zoomed in on the planet.

Distance: 1.8 AU

Estimated Warp Travel: 3 minutes

Leo whistled.

“That’s fast.”

Zip bounced again.

“Let’s go!”

Leo grinned.

“Alright.”

He pressed the glowing LAUNCH button.

Leaving Planet Zerath

The ship vibrated.

Engines roared beneath the floor.

Outside the window, the purple valley began to shake as dust blasted outward from the thrusters.

Guide-Bot spoke calmly.

“Launch sequence initiated.”

The ship lifted slowly from the ground.

Leo felt gravity shift slightly as the vessel climbed upward.

Zip squealed with excitement.

“We’re flying!”

The valley shrank beneath them.

Mountains became tiny shadows.

The glowing Crystal Cave looked like a small crack in the landscape.

Soon clouds rushed past the window.

Then suddenly—

The sky disappeared.

Space surrounded them.

Leo’s breath caught.

Planet Zerath floated below like a giant purple marble.

Stars filled the blackness in every direction.

“ ... Wow.”

Zip pressed his face against the glass.

“SO MANY STARS.”

Guide-Bot activated the navigation interface.

“Destination available.”

Planet Arkon blinked again on the map.

Leo selected it.

The system responded immediately.

DESTINATION LOCKED

Planet Arkon

Warp Jump Ready

Leo took a deep breath.

“Here we go.”

He pushed the warp lever forward.

The First Warp Jump

Energy surged through the ship.

The reactor flared bright blue.

Outside the window, the stars began stretching into long lines of light.

Guide-Bot counted down.

“Three.”

“Two.”

“One.”

The ship exploded forward.

Space twisted into a tunnel of light.

Stars streaked past faster than Leo’s brain could process.

Zip screamed with excitement.

“THIS IS AWESOME!”

Leo gripped the controls.

“I think my stomach just stayed behind.”

The warp tunnel shimmered around them like liquid glass.

Then suddenly—

The ship dropped back into normal space.

And something enormous filled the window.

Planet Arkon

Leo stared in awe.

The planet was breathtaking.

Deep blue oceans covered most of the surface.

Massive continents stretched across the planet, covered in forests and glowing cities.

Dozens of spacecraft moved through orbit.

Huge space stations floated nearby.

Zip whispered:

“People live here.”

Guide-Bot confirmed.

“Multiple civilizations detected.”

A notification appeared.

NEW PLANET DISCOVERED

Planet Arkon

XP +200

Another message followed immediately.

Leo blinked.

“Skill tree?”
