Chapter 24: Cold Mayor
As he spoke, he squatted down, picked up the golden retriever, and patted its head twice to tell it not to bark. Sure enough, the golden retriever stopped barking.
The woman walking the dog was quite surprised and exclaimed, realizing how fierce the animal was. It was so difficult for an ordinary person to restrain it, let alone provoke it. Furthermore, since the dog had stopped crying out, its injury was clearly not serious.
Little did she know that Dino had given the golden retriever an order to endure the pain and not bark. The golden retriever was so frightened by Dino’s scent that it naturally obeyed without question and didn’t dare to utter a sound.
“Sister, let this person go. I’ll take care of this dog.”
Dino pleaded, and the man also begged, while the two policemen remained indifferent, simply watching and waiting for the woman with the dog to give instructions.
Upon her phone ringing, the dog-walker paused briefly to answer. She relayed the situation, saying, “Mayor DC, the dog has been hit, but apparently it’s not serious. There’s a veterinarian here who can treat it ... Yes, all right.”
She put away her phone, pointed at the man who had hit the dog, and said angrily, “Mayor DC is magnanimous and won’t hold it against you. Be careful next time.”
“Dino,” she instructed, “bring the dog and come with me. We need to check the Golden Retriever’s injury. If it has healed, you will receive a reward.”
The woman finished speaking, turned, and walked away, completely ignoring the two police officers. Dino followed, holding the dog.
A car was parked nearby. The woman with the dog allowed Dino to sit in the front seat while she took the back.
As the car door opened for him, Dino got in. He quickly glanced at the driver in the front and the woman in the back.
She was remarkably beautiful, appearing to be in her late twenties or early thirties. Her hair was shoulder-length, and she wore delicate, gold-rimmed glasses, highlighting her oval face and fair skin, complete with two shallow dimples. However, her eyes were intensely cold—not merely detached, but strikingly sharp. When Dino met her gaze, he felt as if two cold arrows had struck him, causing a jolt in his heart. He immediately looked away.
“Mayor DC.” The woman with the dog came in and called out, then started to chatter, saying that she had brought her dog out to buy groceries, and the dog had nudged the vegetable basket, so the vegetable farmer had hit the dog with a stick.
Dino recognized the woman immediately: “That’s her, Mayor DC; I’ve seen her on TV.” She was articulate and sharp.
Monica DC, also referred to as “Green Snake Spirit,” holds the position of deputy mayor, not the mayor. Her age is a point of debate: some sources suggest she is under thirty, while others claim she has already passed that age milestone. This youthfulness is noted as a factor of interest or potential concern.
Monica, a prominent figure in Blossom City, commands significant recognition. While the identity of the mayor is often overlooked by the average resident, Monica is an exception, known by nearly everyone in the city.
There are several reasons. First, Monica is young. It is very rare for a young woman to become a vice mayor. Secondly, Monica is beautiful; some even say she is the most beautiful woman in Blossom City. Thirdly, Monica has a particularly cold personality; she rarely smiles, and her eyes, in particular, are very sharp when she looks at people.
