Chapter 22: Phone Call

Dino was skeptical: “That could prove quite challenging. Martin has connections everywhere—he’s employed by the court, his cousin is with the criminal police, and his uncle is a provincial official. How could anyone possibly manage to control him?”

White Tiger scoffed, “His positions are utterly meaningless. I recently encountered a dog named Darling whose owner holds a much more serious title—a member of the Provincial Party Committee’s Standing Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and a vice-provincial-level official. That is what it takes to be considered an official.”

[A/N: Darling is a Dog]

To Dino, the town mayor was already an impressive figure; he couldn’t even imagine someone as important as the provincial party committee member and deputy secretary. Smacking his lips, he commented, “Even with such a high position, he won’t be able to help us.”

Black Panther chimed in, “Yes, I’ve heard that humans are all about protecting each other, even among officials.”

“We don’t need his help.” White Tiger chuckled and shook his head.

“Your Majesty can order him to handle this matter.”

“Give ... give the order.” Dino was dumbfounded.

“That’s right.” White Tiger nodded. Seeing that Dino didn’t understand, he gave a strange smile. Strangely, its smile really looked like a human’s.

Then White Tiger said something that left Dino speechless.

Keshav Roy, the current deputy secretary of the provincial party committee, is a highly corrupt official. During his time as mayor and party secretary, he secretly amassed a massive fortune exceeding $10 million, with no one aware of his actions. Ironically, his secret was safe from people but known to his beloved dog, Darling, as he was fond of keeping dogs.

“Your Majesty,” a voice chuckled, “you should call Keshav first. Detail all the money he has amassed, list those who bribed him, and name those he bribed to secure his promotion back then—give him a clear and precise accounting.”

“Darling mentioned that despite his boldness in making money, he’s very timid in real life and is frequently plagued by nightmares.”

Dino stammered, “Call him...” He was clearly hesitant, having never engaged in such an action before, especially involving someone as powerful as a provincial party committee deputy secretary.

“That’s right,” white Tiger nodded.

“Don’t say anything yet. Just observe his reaction and have Darling report back in real time. Once he’s scared enough, Your Majesty can call him and tell him about the silver flower incident so he can handle it.”

When the topic of honeysuckle came up, Dino perked up: “Will he be able to handle it?”

“Yes, it will.” White Tiger nodded without hesitation: “And it will be very fast, very thorough, and very dedicated.”

At this point, White Tiger laughed and said to Dino, “My former master once said that the most efficient people in the world are corrupt officials.”

Dino was completely dumbfounded by such a theory, but the old medicine dog nodded: “That makes sense. He’s afraid that Your Majesty will report him, so he will naturally do his best to serve Your Majesty.”

“But...,” Dino hesitated for a long time, “what if he doesn’t listen? What if he turns himself in? What if...”

“There’s no such thing as ‘what if’.” White Tiger shook his head with a smile.
