Chapter 18: Treatment for Tibetan mastiffs

White Tiger, listening nearby, interjected with a proposal: “Your Majesty, the charge for this service must be substantial. The cost for the two dogs should be a minimum of $2000.”

Dino was startled: “How can that be? Hundred would be good enough, that won’t do.”

White Tiger seemed to want to offer some advice, but after a moment’s thought, he remained silent.

The next day, Dino got up very early. It was 40 km to Medicine Valley, which would have required a car, but Dino didn’t have one. He crossed the mountain, which was less than 25 Km.

Dino is focused on extreme frugality, intent on saving every penny. Concurrently, he has noticed a peculiar physical change: he is eating much more and possesses abundant energy. Notably, his legs have become exceptionally strong, enabling him to walk countless miles and traverse mountains and rivers without fatigue.

Old Medicine Dog, White Tiger, and Old Fourth Eye all followed along. Black Panther also wanted to follow, but Dino told him to stay and guard Maya. Actually, all the dogs in the village listened to Dino now, so it didn’t matter whether Black Panther was there or not. But since Dino said so, Black Panther listened.

Dino took the same route as Old Medicine Dog and his group. It was over 20 Km away, and it took only two hours to get there. His pace was even faster than Old Medicine Dog and his group, and Old Four-Eyed Dog could hardly keep up with him.

The coal mine owner, whose full name is Yong Lama, has indeed made a fortune. The house he built is like a palace, and there are even stone lions guarding the gate.

Yong Lama was a big, burly man with a face full of fat. He was playing with a dog in the garden. A woman in a short skirt accompanied him. She was pretty. Dino didn’t get a good look at her, but he could see two snow-white legs and her breasts, half of which were exposed, making him dizzy.

However, Young Lama’s interest in dogs was clearly greater than that in beautiful women. He was completely focused on the two Tibetan mastiffs, but unfortunately, the two mastiffs were half-dead, and their attitude towards him was just like their attitude towards the long-legged beauty.

“Kelo?” Yong Lama frowned after hearing Dino’s words.

“I think I’ve heard of him. You’re his apprentice?”

His face was fleshy, and his large eyes, with more white than black, held a stare that made Dino deeply uneasy.

“Are you sure you can cure it?” His tone was ambiguous, whether it was doubt or disdain, but Dino smiled ingratiatingly and said, “I’ll give it a try.”

As he spoke, he walked over to the two Tibetan mastiffs.

“Hey, don’t go over there!” the long-legged beauty exclaimed, her voice sweet and pleasant.

Tibetan mastiffs are ferocious, especially to strangers. They are impossible to approach. It’s not just a matter of biting people; it’s a matter of biting them to death.

The long-legged beauty obviously knew this, so she screamed. But Yong Lama found it amusing. Even if he didn’t kill Dino, it would be good to scare this kid who had come to his doorstep. So he stopped her.

Dino was well aware of the perverse tastes of wealthy people like Yong Lama, and he shook his head inwardly before walking straight over, making a low whimpering sound.

The two Tibetan mastiffs smelled his scent and obediently lay there, not moving at all, only wagging their tails gently.

“Huh, this kid is really a bit strange.” Yong Lama, who was waiting to see him make a fool of himself, was dumbfounded.

Dino approached the pair of Tibetan mastiffs, petting their heads and murmuring soothing words. Knowing he lacked skill in persuasion—with both people and dogs—he offered them a simple, pragmatic instruction: make the best of their current situation, since they were already there, and hold their position.

Yong Lama couldn’t understand what Dino’s low growling meant. He only saw that the two fierce Tibetan mastiffs were incredibly obedient in Dino’s hands, even more so than a long-legged beauty in bed. After Dino stroked them for a while, the two mastiffs actually stood up, and their eyes regained their spirit.

Dino comforted the two Tibetan mastiffs and listened to their complaints.
