Chapter 11: Connection and power
Black Panther wouldn’t have it, so he ran off and soon brought back an old dog with four eyes. The old dog knelt on its front knees and, mimicking a person kneeling, bowed to Dino, saying, “Old Four-Eyes greets Your Majesty.”
Dino recognized him as Old Dog from the dealership. He quickly tried to get him up, almost making him sit down, but then he realized he was a dog and didn’t know what to say.
“Your Majesty,” Old Four Eyes declared, “Black Panther informed me that someone is attempting to bully you, which is simply outrageous! I urge you to command the immediate gathering of every dog in this village and the surrounding areas for your protection. If the police dare to show up tomorrow, we shall bite them to death.”
It bared its teeth, its eyes gleaming with ferocity. The black panther, equally furious, chimed in, “That’s right! If they dare to come, we’ll bite them to death!”
Dino was terrified and repeatedly shook his head, saying, “No, no, please don’t.”
After thinking for a moment, he explained, “This is a human matter; dogs shouldn’t get involved. Besides, there are laws. I don’t believe they would dare to beat me to death in the police station.”
“That’s not true.” Old dog shook his head repeatedly: “I’ve heard a lot about people being beaten to death in the police station. Even if they don’t kill, they often cripple or paralyze people. If they kill you, they’ll throw you off a building and say you’re trying to escape or commit suicide by jumping off a building.”
Dino had heard of such things before, but the thought of a pack of dogs biting someone made him hesitate, and he simply shook his head.
Old Four-Eyes was an old dog, and one of the most experienced in the store. Seeing Dino’s expression, it rolled its eyes and said, “Your Majesty is benevolent. I have another plan. People and dogs are different. Dogs only know how to use force, but people also value power. Tony is using Officer Tim to pressure you, which is using the power of the police. But Your Majesty, you can also use another power to pressure Officer Tim, so that he won’t dare to deal with you.”
“Oh.” Dino’s eyes lit up
Dino didn’t know that this one “oh” would mark the beginning of his reign of terror, and a legend was born!
Old Four Eyes said, “Officer Tim is just a small-time policeman. He’s nothing but a nobody. Too many people can control him, including the station chief and the deputy station chief.”
“I don’t know them.” Dino shook his head.
“Why would they care?”
“It’s easy to get to know him,” said Old Four-Eyes.
“Your Majesty is unaware, but the deputy director of the police station, Robert Park, is deeply filial. He was raised by his mother after his father’s early passing. His mother suffers from a chronic condition, crooked mouth disease, which many doctors have failed to cure. The cure, however, is remarkably simple: a single bowl of water in which a newly burrowed cicada has been boiled is enough to completely treat it.”

Dino was surprised: “Really? You can treat patients?”
“I can’t.” Old Fourth Eyes shook his head: “There’s an old medicine dog behind Medicine Valley. His master’s family is surnamed Wellford, and they’ve been practicing traditional medicine for over ten generations. Your Majesty, you’ve heard of them, right?”
“The Wellford of Medicine Valley.” Dino nodded.
“I’ve heard of them. They were said to have produced several generations of imperial physicians in the past, but it seems they’re no longer doing so.”
