The following new characters appear in this chapter:

Deirdre has the Narrative
We, that is my nieces, the Sweeney triplets and I had finished our second year of college and were planning where to go this year on vacation. We had gone to Miami on finishing our first year of college.
Miami is a large city, though not as large as New York. The difference was amazing. Yes, it was crowded and there are still all types of criminals. However, the laws are strictly enforced, and the atmosphere is so much better. There is all of this sunshine and the beaches. There are also a lot more Magic users than in New York and Witches. Lots of Witches. We had no more than checked into our hotel there when a couple of Witches appeared in the lobby near us. No one there even blinked at this.
“Oh my God!” the older of the two women said on seeing us. “We felt your Talents when you arrived here. You are the future Dragon Queens. We have all seen your pictures,” she told us before collecting her thoughts.
“We are this week’s welcoming team. The Team always appears when young women with the Talent arrive here to warn them about the scammsters who will take advantage of them like they did me when I was a young woman,” she told us, and seeing the confusion on our faces, she explained.
“My name is Aleshia. You must be Deirdre. You bear a close resemblance to Dallas and Doreen. Your Sisters saved me from the drug gang that kidnapped me when I came down here on summer break from college,” she told us.
On hearing her name, I remembered who she was, as my sisters had related their adventures in Miami to me a number of times while I was growing up. (See Dragon Daughters chapters 1 to 5)
“I take it that you still have drug dealers here,” I said.
“Yes,” she said with a sigh, “but they don’t abduct young women to sell them into prostitution. The Witch Covens here have shut that bit of business down, since before I returned after finishing college,” she told us with a smile. “There is still enough crime, however, that we still check on all of those with the Talent to warn them about being careful,” she had added. WE hadn’t had any trouble during our stay, I remembered.
“So where should we go this year?” Daeva asked in a petulant voice, as we hadn’t been able to decide previously. This was the reason that we were still at home.
“Nowhere in California,” Botum told her sisters. “Those people out there have all turned anti-Magic and anti-Dragon. Besides, it’s a long way there,” she added. We were looking for somewhere close after all.
“How about Houston?” Maly asked.
“They get too many storms and hurricanes there,” Daeva told her. “And it’s just as crowded and busy as New York was and wetter,” she added.
“Would anyone vote for Las Vegas?” Botum asked. “It’s a lot drier than Houston.”
“They have a thing about Magic users too,” Maly reminded her.
“Oh yeah,” her sister said absently.
“Well, where can we go to relax and have some fun?” I asked. There was a long silence following that question.
“We could go to Savannah or maybe Jacksonville. There are a lot of places near them to relax and get some sun near the ocean. They have hotels and other places to rent,” Maly offered in a hopeful voice.
“There isn’t anyone in those places whom we know, like in Miami last year,” Daeva reminded her.
“If we are only going places where we know people, that doesn’t leave a very long list,” Botum told her.
“We could go to Stone Mountain. The park I mean. We’ve been to the mountain often, but haven’t visited the rest of the park. We could just transfer there during the daytime and sleep at home. It wouldn’t be that expensive,” Maly pointed out.
“We wouldn’t be able to sleep with any cute guys at home,” both Botum and Daeva pointed out.
Suddenly following that, all three of my nieces turned toward me and said, “Your boyfriend is back!”
“WHAT! What are you saying?” I asked in surprise.
“Morgan MacFarland has returned. Didn’t you feel his arrival? You are the one who always knows when someone has arrived,” Botum told to me in a questioning voice.
“Morgan - back?” I asked in confusion, as I sent my Magic senses out to discovered him standing in the parking area near mother’s house. How could I have missed something as impotent as his appearing there? Was I losing my ability and Magic, or could there be some other explanation and if so, what? Should I go to him immediately as I wanted, or should I just ignore his arrival and continue our discussion of vacation locations? I didn’t know what to do, and my nieces were all looking at me expectantly.
“GO,” Botum told me on seeing my look of indecision. “You know you want to, so go,” she continued with a grin. I only waited an instant and then disappeared, but before I did, I heard Maly say, “I don’t think Deirdre will be going with us this year.”
A second later, I appeared on the parking area. Morgan was standing there waiting for someone to lead him through the Nesting ward. He looked nearly the same as I remembered him. Tall, strong, and handsome with that wonderful smile of his. He was two years older and maybe just a little heavier, as he had been a bit thin before.
“Hello Morgan,” I said at just above a whisper, when I wanted to shout it, I was so happy to see him, but my throat had something wrong with it, and it came out barely audible. Still, he must have heard me, or he sensed my arrival, as he quickly turned toward me.
“Hi Deirdre,” he said, as we walked toward each other. He held out his hand as if to touch me, but I shook my head and held out my arms to him. He definitely understood what I wanted and quickly held out his arms also. I walked right into his arms, and he closed them around me. It felt so good to be wrapped in his embrace, and I lay my head on his broad chest.
“I’ve missed you so,” I managed to whisper, as he continued to hold me.
“I’ve missed you also,” he told me, as he started to kiss me: my hair, my eyes, my nose, and finally my mouth. We kissed for a long, long time but just lip to lip mostly. Eventually, I heard giggling behind us, and Morgan released me so I could turn to see who it was.
“Hello ladies,” he said as I looked at my three nieces standing there watching us.
“Hello Morgan,” they returned and giggled again like young teenage girls ... jealous young teenage girls at that.
“Are you back to stay or just for a visit?” Daeva asked.
“I’m back to stay. I’ve already talked to Mr. Sweeney and have a job at Dragon Security here in Atlanta. I start next Monday. I’m still moving into my new apartment here,” he told all of us.
“You won’t be staying here then,” I asked in disappointment.
“No, that wouldn’t have looked good at work,” he told me before smiling again. “You can visit me at my apartment, if you want to,” he added.
“Ooh! A place to rendezvous,” my nieces all said and giggled ... again. I turned red in embarrassment at what they were thinking. The problem was that I was thinking the same thing. I just didn’t want them to know that.
“Would you like to come in?” I asked him, meaning to the house.
“Is the Queen at home?” he asked. “She wasn’t all that happy with me when I was here before,” he added.
“No, she is out on business,” I told him.
“Dragon business?” he asked.
“No, business business. She is the CEO and president of Dragon Security plus she has financial interests in a couple of printing businesses, an engineering firm, and an architectural firm,” I explained.
“Yes, just like our mom owns part of several Oriental restaurants and clothing stores,” Botum told him.
“When did all of this happen?” Morgan asked.
“It was some time ago after they met Yuryi Lawristan and his wife Yvonne. He has been a business man for more than a thousand years and has very diverse business interests,” I told him.
“A thousand years!” Morgan asked in shock.
“Yes, he has been a Dragon for over 1200 years. You didn’t meet him when you were here before. His main house is in Duluth, Minnesota, and he has a house here east of Atlanta also,” I told him. Morgan appeared to be stunned when I mentioned where Yuryi’s main house was.
“In Minnesota? The same State of Minnesota that I have been living in?” he asked in an incredulous voice.
“Yes, the same state but near Lake Superior,” I told him.
“I never knew that there was another Dragon in Minnesota,” he said still surprised.
“I don’t think there are any others living there presently except their children who aren’t old enough to be Dragons yet,” I told him. “Are you interested in coming in?” I asked again following that.
“Yes, for a little while, if that’s okay,” he told me. I turned and looked at my nieces who were still there.
“You three are not invited,” I told them before taking Morgan’s hand, and we disappeared through the Nesting ward. A second later, we appeared in the small parlor. After we got settled on the sofa there next to each other, Morgan had a question.
“What have you been doing for the last two years?” he asked.
“Aside from rescuing an eight-year-old who turned into his Dragon form,” I started to say but was instantly interrupted.
“WOW! Wait a minute. An eight-year-old turned into his Dragon?” Morgan asked in surprise.
“Yes, Kiry is a very nice young man, but this bully collected a bucket of excrement from kids in the school rest room and threw it on him out on the playground. This really upset Kiry, and he turned into his Dragon form and breathed Dragon Fire on the bully,” I told him.
“He would have to be some kind of powerful to do that at eight years old,” he said.
“Yes, he is and so is his mother. It completely changed their lives. He is going to a private school now, and his mother got a much nicer job. She also married one of the managers from Dragon Security after a time,” I told him before continuing with what I had been going to tell him.
“My three nieces and I have been attending college for the past two years. Our mothers made us wait until we were twenty-one before allowing us to start college. Mom knew what college was like when she attended it, and my older sisters, Dallas and Doreen, knew how it was when they attended college plus what it is like now with their daughters attending it. So, we had to wait,” I told him.
“What are you taking though? Surely, it isn’t Magic or Witchcraft. All of you have already mastered all of that,” he said.
“We’re taking courses in government and politics for when we become the new Queens. Our mothers and my sisters had long ago realized that this new Dragon Kingdom would be much different than the old Kingdom or Queendom, if you will. Eventually, even the Queens of Old realized this. That is why there are Dragons and near-Dragons at Georgia State and Georgia Tech taking courses in business, medicine, and in various engineering and science fields. It’s also why our mothers and my sisters have financial interests in the businesses that they do. They knew that they would need Dragons and near-Dragons who are experienced in fields other than the security business,” I told him, but he had a question for me.
“They can afford that?” he asked before I could change the subject.
“Most of them are being subsidized to a certain extent by the Queens and Dragon Security in addition to any scholarships and grants or other financial assistance that they may be receiving,” I told him before changing the subject.
“What was it that brought you back here? I thought you were happy in Minnesota, not that I’m complaining,” I told him. Morgan didn’t smile on hearing this, and it took him a number of seconds to answer.
“The reason is rather embarrassing actually. On returning home with the knowledge I had gained from the Medical Magic book that your mother gave me, things went very well for a while. My mother studied the book and could do many of the spells. Together, we were able to heal or cure many of the health problems that those in the various Indian tribes had. We became even more popular and well known on the various reservations.
