Chapter 16
Maly still has the Narrative
On returning from dealing with the removal of the prisoners, it was still summer, but our vacation, along with those of our relatives, was over. The Queens and our older relatives still had things for everyone to do. There were still many details of the attack on Stone Mountain Park that needed to be tracked down and reported on. Things such as the number of deaths, the number injured, how many were taken hostage, and even more the number of police and SWAT teams that were involved and where they were from. Then there were the problems of the destroyed and damaged property and the problems for the park itself. All of these things and more needed to be investigated and reports prepared. It seemed like the work would never end.
Eventually though, things did slow down, the reports were written and submitted, plus no new tasks were assigned us. We, all of us, finally got a few days to sit and relax before we would need to start preparations for returning for our third, Junior, year of college.
We had all been so busy that the Queen had put off the promised party for us and those from Dragon Security who had assisted us in clearing the buildings at the park. Now however, it was scheduled to be held in two days. This necessitated that all of us pitch in and help set it up as well as purchasing the various supplies for the party from a number of locations. We contacted a number of restaurants in the area around us and arranged for them to prepare large quantities of various foods. Some of us also arranged for the delivery of various beverages to the site of the Nest, but on the ground as we would transfer them up into the Nest ourselves and down to the audience chamber.
The party itself was a huge success and lasted for a good part of the day, as not all of those who had assisted with clearing the buildings were on the same shift at work. Some were working when the party started, and others needed to leave to go to work later. This released those on the earlier shift to join the party. Some of those from the second shift returned when the third shift reported for work from the continuing party.
When the party finally closed down and all of the guests were gone, there was still the cleanup. Thankfully, the Queens decided that it could wait until tomorrow, as all of us were worn out. Some of us had managed to get short naps during the party, but it was still a long party. The next day, the cleanup still required several hours just to clear the huge amount of debris like bottles, cans, boxes, wrappers, and paper plates plus the plastic utensils. Many cleaning spells were also required. Finally, though, the Queens’ Audience Chamber was restored to its normal condition.
We, that is Deirdre, my sisters, and I did get to relax for a couple of days before disaster struck again. It was on the news on the television, the internet, the radio, and even in the newspaper.
“DeKalb DA Indicts Six Female Dragons for the Murder of the suspects in the Stone Mountain Attack,” the headline read.
“Six Female Dragons, three Kavanaghs and three Sweeneys, have been indicted for murdering the suspects in the Stone Mountain Park attack. The DeKalb County District Attorney says that he will bring them to trial shortly even though they haven’t been arrested yet or even charged in the suspected murders. This is a highly unusual and possibly illegal procedure,” the reporter on the news told his audience before going to a legal expert, but we didn’t hear what was said.
My sisters and I were shocked beyond belief by this news. So were the rest of the Kavanaghs and the Sweeneys. We had never even considered that such a thing was possible. What could that District Attorney be thinking, we wondered. We had been so upset that we didn’t even listen to the rest of the announcement. We just sat there stunned for a number of minutes. It was Daeva who finally broke the silence.
“He must be out of his mind!” she shouted in a very loud voice, bringing the rest of us out of our stupor.
“That just doesn’t seem possible, given all of the video that we have, even from when they were taken to the Demon-lands,” Deirdre, who was with us, said following that.
It was a short time later, that all of our phones rang at the same time, and we were called to the Queen’s front yard for a meeting on this new problem. Everyone in the clan arrived in a short time, even the family members working at Dragon Security. The Queens addressed us once everyone had arrived.
“I had foreseen something like this happening shortly before we finished clearing the buildings at the park. However, WE, both of us, thought it would be the Federal Government who would be doing this and not some local District Attorney. We have no idea what his reasons are but can believe that there are several.
“Do not worry, We are prepared for this eventually. All of the video work, all of the record checking, and the investigating that all of you have been doing has had a purpose. That purpose is now ready. We will demand that the DeKalb District Attorney attend us in a day or so and present our argument to him then. In the meantime, there will be announcements on various television and internet sites of how we intend to deal with these accusations. Do not worry about of this. Dragons always prevail,” the Queens assured us before we were dismissed.
“What could they be talking about?” we all wondered, but we had no real idea. We had all been involved in the work they had mentioned, but we saw no way that would affect the threat of being tried for murders that we hadn’t committed.
The following day, Chu Hua arrived at the offices of the DeKalb District Attorney at ten minutes past noon.
“I am here to see the District Attorney,” she announced to the receptionist at their office.
“He isn’t available. It’s lunch time, and he is out,” the receptionist told her.
“NO! He is in his office, having just finished the Dhuhr (Midday) prayers. He isn’t scheduled to go to lunch until one o’clock,” Chu informed a somewhat shocked receptionist.
“How ... how could you know that?” she asked in wonder.
“I am Chu Hua, an official of the Combined Royal Courts of the Dragon Queens. I am here with a message for him. He Will see me now, or he will see other officials of the Court when they are sent for him,” Chu told her. It was just a short time after the receptionist called someone before a tall male civilian appeared.
“Come with me, please,” he told her and led the way to an inner office. Once there, he turned to look down on her.
“Who the hell do you think you are coming here and demanding to see the District Attorney? He’s too busy, so just leave, or we will help you leave,” he told her in a threatening voice, as two larger and heavier men joined them in the office. Chu only smiled at them before changing into her Dragon form at eight feet tall (240 cm) and casting a Freeze spell on the other two men.
“Now, little man, you will take me to the District Attorney, or I will ensure that you have a very unpleasant remainder of the day,” she told the stunned man before returning to her Human form. He very carefully led her to the correct office and opened the door for her.
Chu carefully looked into the office and observed the man seated at the desk in there. On comparing his face with the picture of the District Attorney that she had memorized, she decided that he was the same individual and marched into the office, stopping three feet (90 cm) in front of his desk...
“Mister District Attorney, I am Chu Hua, an official of the Dragon Queens Royal Court. You are hereby summoned to appear in person at the Dual Royal Court of the Dragon Queens of the East and the West to answer questions. You will appear on the ground below the Entrance of the Nest in Stone Mountain Park at one o’clock tomorrow afternoon. Being late is not an option. Should you fail to appear and on time, a pair of male Dragons will be dispatched to bring you to the Court. They will not be understanding of any problems you may have. Good day,” she finished and vanished before he could make any objections. The DA appeared stunned for a number of seconds before losing his temper.
“Just who did she think she was and how dare her come in here like that?” he demanded in an angry voice.
“She ... she turned into a Dragon and left two of our security people frozen like statues, sir,” the other man informed him.
“WHAT! She broke in here and assaulted two of our people!” the DA demanded in a shocked voice.
“It wasn’t quite like that, sir. When they appeared, and I told her to leave, she cast a spell and just froze them. They couldn’t move,” the other man told him.
“Well, I have no intention of appearing there tomorrow,” the DA said in an arrogant voice.
“Yes sir,” the other man said, “but that might not be a wise decision, sir. Those creatures have strong Magic, and we have none,” he finished with a frown.
“Bah ... I don’t believe in Magic. It’s all some hocus-pocus,” the DA told him, but the man was still frowning.
The following day, the DeKalb DA did arrive in the cove below the entrance to the Nest just before one o’clock. It appeared that calmer heads had prevailed and convinced him to appear there. He was met by Chu Hua in her Human form. She transferred the two of them up to the platform, startling the DA who looked around at the surrounding area in shocked surprise.
“How did we...?” he started to ask.
“By Magic,” Chu told him cutting him off before transforming into her Dragon form at twenty-five feet tall (7.65 meters) and passing both of them through the Nesting Ward. From the entry tunnel of the Nest, she transferred them to the entrance of the Queen’s Audience Chamber. He wasn’t allowed to see any of the treasure rooms or other areas. Again, the DA was shocked, but this time by the huge size of the chamber.
“Where is this?” he asked. “And why is it so large?” followed that.
“This is the Queen’s Audience Chamber. It is located inside Stone Mountain. It is this large to accommodate a thousand full size Dragons for an audience,” Chu informed him.
“The Queens are awaiting you,” she told him next, indicating the two thrones at the far end of the chamber, and the people and Dragons waiting there. The DA had to walk the entire length of the chamber, some 900 feet (275 meters). They stopped some thirty feet (9 meters) in front of the dais.
There were six of us waiting there for him in our Dragon forms at twenty-five feet tall: Dallas, Doreen, and Deirdre plus Botum, Daeva, and me, Maly. Additionally, there were a number of other Kavanaghs and Sweeneys there but in their Human forms. The Queen of the West was the first one to speak from the dais and in a loud Dragon voice.
“You, Mr. District Attorney, have released to the media your intentions to try for murder six Female Dragons,” she began in an accusing voice. “But you have yet to consult with US or ask any questions. Was this done in an excess of zeal for justice or was there some other intent?” she demanded but didn’t give him a chance to answer before continuing.
