Chapter 55: A Different Kind of Semaian

The Marine didn’t hesitate.

That was the first thing Amina noticed.

Confidence wasn’t unusual on ARK-1, but this was different—earned confidence. A woman who knew exactly what her body could do and was accustomed to being listened to when she spoke.

The Marine laughed at something Darius hadn’t said and stepped closer than necessary.

“Didn’t expect you to be this ... normal,” she said, eyes flicking over him with practiced familiarity. “Most people at your level put up walls.”

Darius shifted slightly. Not uncomfortable—aware.

“I try not to,” he replied.

The Marine smiled and reached out, fingers brushing his forearm. Casual. Intentional.

That was when Amina closed the distance.

She didn’t announce herself.

She didn’t raise her voice.

She simply placed herself between them, her movement smooth enough that it barely registered as a choice.

“Marine,” Amina said calmly.

The woman looked her up and down, assessing. “Didn’t see you there.”

“That’s because you weren’t looking,” Amina replied.

The Marine’s smile sharpened. “No offense, but I was in the middle of a conversation.”

Amina inclined her head. “You were in the middle of a test.”

The Marine snorted. “You don’t own him.”

Amina nodded once. “Correct.”

The Marine stepped sideways, attempting to re-enter Darius’s space.

Amina moved with her.

Not faster. Earlier.

When the Marine tried to shoulder past, Amina let the force come—then redirected it.

A simple pivot. A soft turn of the hips. One palm at the elbow, the other at the shoulder.

The Marine found herself airborne for half a second.

Then the floor arrived.

Hard enough to steal breath. Clean enough to bruise pride more than bone.

Amina was already kneeling beside her, one hand pinning the Marine’s wrist, the other pressing lightly at a pressure point just below the collarbone.

Not crushing.

Not threatening.

Absolute control.

“Stop,” Amina said quietly.

The Marine froze—not because she was ordered to, but because her body understood the math and had no objections.

Amina leaned closer, voice low enough that only the Marine could hear.

“I was raised on Earth,” she said. “I learned patience from my people. I learned consequence from yours.”

She released the pressure and stood, offering a hand—not to help, but to signal the moment was over.

“This ends here,” Amina said. “You walk away. With dignity. Or you don’t.”
