Chapter 22
Grady was finishing up washing the dishes when Bri let herself in through the back door. She marched up to him and grabbed him by the belt buckle, spinning him to face her. “I’m lonely, I’m bored, and the only thing I want right now is a little loving from you. Take me to your bed, Grady.” She proceeded to pull him by his pants after her as she marched down the hall to his bedroom.
Keeping in mind the lessons he had learned, Grady took his time. He undressed her. Off came her button-up shirt and he stopped to kiss her neck and nibble her ear. He ran his hands down her sides, letting his fingers feel the muscles on her back. She shivered. Only then did he continue. When they were both naked, she pushed him back on the bed. Crawling on top of him, she kissed him from his forehead down to the backs of his knees. Only then did she crawl back up to lay claim to “her favorite toy.”
When she coaxed his first load into her mouth, he rolled her over and gave her the same pleasure, from top to bottom. Delving into her depths, she began to moan loudly. When she came, she nearly pulled his hair out by the roots.
With an evil smile, she pulled her knees up to her hips and told him to “come and get it.” He returned the smile, before lining himself up, and slowly sliding in. They both moaned. He started slowly, allowing her to welcome his girth, and gradually they began to pick up the pace together. When she became louder and louder, he leaned further forward, making his pubic bone rub her harder as he pressed downward.
When she called out, “Yes, Cowboy,” he lost the last shred of control, letting his arms shake as he fired his second load. He froze in place as the sensation of muscles spinning down complimented his release. When he looked up, she was giving him another smile, a gentle one this time.
“Hey, Grady, you got any pudding in the fridge,” she said. “I’ve got a sweet tooth.”
“Pudding?” he asked with incredulity. “Is that what you call having sex with me? Pudding?”
He had no pudding, but he willingly shared one of his precious ice cream sandwiches. They had sex one more time, this time with Bri on top before falling asleep.
The vibration of the jewel woke Grady. His phone said 3:13. He looked out the window, trying to remember the phase of the moon. Glancing over at Brianna, he was relieved that she was peaceably asleep. He had given her the commands, but words compared to actions and all of that.
He quickly dressed and took his rifle before setting off for the barn. The horse was not happy, but Grady gave him no choice. Closing the barn door after himself, he double-checked his saddle bags were secure before he mounted the horse and took off for the mountain. The moon was nearly full, with only a sliver missing.
At the trail split, he took the upper trail with a slight lurch in his stomach. He could feel his heart beating as they ascended the near slope, slipping into the lower tree line. As he drew near the gateway, he dismounted his horse and tied the reins to a nearby bush. Rifle in hand and a Mag-lite in his back pocket, he walked slowly into the clearing.
The being was nearly seven feet tall, thin with a long rectangular face. Grady counted two eyes, a nose flap and mouth. The being was wearing a cap on its head, covering whatever growth might be there. When the being bowed slightly, making no quick moves, Grady zipped open his jacket and unbuttoned the top of his shirt. He pulled out the jewel for the being to see. The being stretched forth its left arm and his long finger to touch the stone. Grady felt a slight tingle.
“Greetings, Gatekeeper, I come in peace.”
“Greetings, Traveler, how may I be of service?”
The being reached into its pocket and pulled out a cube, which looked black in the moonlight. “We are symbiotic species. At the onset of puberty, we are melded with our parasitic host and become one integrated adult. The daughter of my base mate, not my host mate, was stricken by an enemy of mine immediately before her melding. War has broken out because of this action and my base mate...” He paused, “her fate is not your concern. I hold the vessel containing my daughter’s host.”
“You want me to place this host in one of my people?” Grady asked. He was starting to sweat even though the weather was chilly.
“Not necessary, but thank you for your offer,” the traveler said. “When I depart, another will emerge. She is the one who needs this host. I offer you this small token of gratitude for your service.” He reached out with his other hand and laid a cylinder at Grady’s feet.
“I agree,” Grady said, not understanding much. The being reached out with his hand gently placed the cube in Grady’s gloved hand. “How will I know that the next traveler is the one you intend?”
“You will know,” the being said before turning and walking through the gateway.
Grady stood there in the dark for a moment with his hand outstretched feeling like a fool. He did not know how long he would be waiting or even if all this seeming espionage was legitimate. As he pondered the possibility the gateway flashed, and another being stepped through.
This being resembled a slug, only one that was about 3 feet or a meter tall. There were two antennae on top of the head and two on the side. The slime and the smell of rottenness were easy to discern. As the creature drew near, Grady was ready to crap his pants. The creature pushed something from underneath its body, and another identical cylinder rolled to Grady’s feet.
“I suppose this is all the explanation I need,” Grady said to the creature. He stretched forth his hand towards the being. An appendage emerged from the being with a sucker on the end. Plucking the cube very quickly, the being backed up, turned and trundled back through the gateway. Grady stared at the gateway for a moment, waiting for his body to catch up with his brain. He scooped up both cylinders and walked back to his horse.
When he returned to the ranch, he placed the cylinders on the desk in the newer/better storage facility before he took the horse back to its stall. He gave the horse a quick brush and called it a night. After taking a quick shower, Grady crawled back into bed. Bri hardly stirred.
“Weird night,” Grady said as he pulled himself out of bed in the morning light. After brushing his teeth and putting on some clothes, he was pleased to find a cup of coffee warming in the coffeemaker. In the refrigerator, he found a cup of yogurt with fruit on the bottom that had not expired yet. He dumped it in a bowl and poured some rice cereal up to the top of the bowl. Mixing the gloop with a spoon first, he shoveled the concoction into his face like he was starving child.
He found Brianna cleaning out the stalls. Feeling like he should act like a caring guy, he offered to carry out the wheelbarrow and dump it for her. When he brought the wheelbarrow back, she was putting away the rest of the cleaning supplies. Together, they walked out to the corral and leaned over the fence, watching the horses plod around.
“Did you hear from Jessica this morning?” Grady asked.
“She left me a brief text saying she would swing by later this morning,” Brianna said. “Worried?”
