Chapter 50: One in a Million Boyfriend
As Lucas screamed internally, Wendy kept a calm expression on the surface, holding her wine glass with a faint smile on her lips.
In truth, there was a storm surging in her heart.
Ever since Lucas first appeared and tried to hit on her, she discovered something shocking—she could hear his inner voice.
At first, it was just some silly commentary. She didn’t think too much of it. She only found the ability to hear his thoughts amusing, so she gave him her phone number, planning to investigate further later.
But after he called her and she went to meet him out of curiosity, she began to hear some strange things from his thoughts.
For example, he claimed he was a “villain.”
And the things he said and the poems he recited were all done not out of his own desire, but in order to “stay in character.”
This talk of villains and character settings intrigued her deeply.
So when he and Zavier left and came to sit here, she followed them over.
And it turned out to be the right decision.
As soon as Lucas saw her, his mind immediately started spilling more information about her.
Stuff like how she was a female lead, one of David’s future lovers, and how in the second half of the story she would fall for David...
But she actually knew David.
She had come to Su City this time specifically for him.
Yet she and David were just friends. So why did Lucas say she was his woman?
These thoughts left her filled with confusion.
Then Rose showed up.
From Lucas’s chaotic internal thoughts, she began piecing together more key details.
She, Rose, and Yelena were all supposed to be David’s women, members of his harem. But something must have gone wrong along the way. Rose had gotten engaged to Lucas, and Yelena had distanced herself from David, leading Lucas to believe the storyline was collapsing and that their character arcs were veering off track.
So she had deliberately said she fell for Lucas at first sight to test his reaction and maybe coax more thoughts out of him.
Sure enough, Lucas exploded the moment she mentioned love at first sight.
“No! Absolutely not! I’ve told you so many times. Rose is the only one in my heart. Don’t you understand plain language? And didn’t Rose just tell you? You have your own man, your own boyfriend. Can’t you take all this energy and go chase after him instead of wasting it on me?”
Wendy nearly burst out laughing, seeing him lose his cool like that.
Teasing him was surprisingly fun.
“My man? I grew up in the Blue Orchid Sect. This is my first time out, my first time in Su City. Where exactly is this so-called man of mine? Since Young Master Grey seems to know everything, why don’t you point me in the right direction?”
[Point you where? If I say it’s David, that would basically be spoiling the plot. But this woman is way too strange. Her entire character is falling apart in every direction. If I give her even a hint, who knows what insane thing she might do next.]
After thinking it through, Lucas could only vaguely reply, “A girl as outstanding as you is sure to end up with a one-in-a-million boyfriend. Someone with extraordinary fortune and talent.”
[Only the dragon king male lead would suit her.]
Wendy chuckled. “Oh? By that logic, Rose is with you because she’s not as outstanding as I am?”
“...”
If you don’t know how to talk, just close your lovely little mouth.
Lucas gritted his teeth. “It’s because I like her. She got unlucky and caught my attention, so she has to marry me. Got a problem with that? Go find your own boyfriend. Why are you getting involved with us?”
He kept telling Wendy to go chase someone else, making it crystal clear that he had zero interest in her.
Rose was very satisfied and felt reassured.
If he were trying to fish, someone like Wendy, who came right up to him, would have taken the bait instantly.
But he didn’t.
Even if it was just to maintain his persona, the way he treated her was still genuinely good.
Nowadays, men of all ages and financial backgrounds can’t keep their eyes off other women, even while holding their current girlfriend’s hand. Finding someone loyal was harder than finding a three-legged toad.
She had finally met someone like Lucas, and she was determined to hold on tightly. No way would she let him go to anyone else.
With that thought, she reached out and hugged Lucas’s waist tightly, burying herself in his chest.
Yelena, watching from the side, widened her eyes in surprise.
She had known Rose for so long, but never once had she seen this softer side of her.
It seemed Rose truly had feelings for Lucas.
Unfortunately ... sorry, Rose. I’ve fallen for him too. I also want to end up with him. That means we’ll either have to compete or share.
Wendy was also caught off guard by his words.
She never imagined she’d be rejected.
And not just rejected, but turned down even after she made the first move and basically threw herself at him.
Still...
Being rejected only made her more determined to conquer him.
She refused to believe she was inferior to Rose.
Even if she couldn’t steal him away, she would at least make him waver, make him hesitate, and make him unable to resist her temptation. She would make him betray Rose.
But at this moment, Rose was holding him tight, and Lucas had his arm wrapped protectively around her. Their intimacy left no room for a third person.
Clearly, this wasn’t the right time to stir things up.
Since she would be staying in Su City for a while, there was no need to rush. She could play the long game.
With that in mind, she smiled and said, “Alright, alright. I get it now. You’re a loyal man. No need to keep hammering the point. I happen to have some things to take care of, so I’ll head out first. But Lucas, we’ll definitely be seeing each other again soon.”
After saying that, she winked at Lucas, blew him a kiss, handed her wine glass to Zavier, and turned to leave.
Zavier looked down at the glass in his hand, and his face turned beet red.
“She ... she gave me her glass? What does that mean? Could she be into me, too?”
“Yelena, let me explain. There’s nothing between me and her. Even if she throws herself at me, I wouldn’t look at her twice. You’re the only goddess in my heart!”
Yelena gave him a calm glance. “She has absolutely no interest in you. Don’t overthink it.”
“No interest? That’s great. You had me scared there. Uh, Yelena, since she doesn’t care about me, does that mean you...”
Before he could finish, Yelena cut him off. “Oh, I just remembered something I need to handle at home. I’ll be heading out too.”
Not just Wendy, but Yelena also felt there was no room to come between Lucas and Rose right now.
So she decided to withdraw temporarily.
But just as she was about to leave, Lucas called out to her.
“Wait a second, Yelena. You really helped me out a lot with that bullying video last time. I haven’t thanked you properly yet. Is there anything you want? I can get it for you as a thank-you gift.”
