Chapter 49: New Year’s Greetings to Grandpa

Hector stiffly turned his neck. When he looked back, he was so shocked that he stumbled three steps backward.

Even Zayden opened his mouth in surprise.

She actually came over herself?

Just to prove that Lucas had successfully gotten her number?

The legendary Wendy, known for being cold and indifferent to everyone, actually gave Lucas that much face.

This was beyond rare.

Lucas was also startled when he saw Wendy approach.

He had only exchanged a few words with her and gotten her number. Had he really succeeded in flirting just like that?

Was it really that easy?

“What’s wrong? You don’t look very happy to see me.”

Wendy crossed her arms and raised her chin with a proud expression, but the way she looked at Lucas was full of curiosity.

As for Zayden and Hector, they didn’t even register in her line of sight.

Lucas smiled. “Why wouldn’t I be happy? You came over at just the right time to prove I got your number. Well, Hector, a bet is a bet. Don’t tell me you’re going back on your word? Out here, you represent your master’s reputation. Don’t tell me you don’t care about that either.”

Deep down, Hector admired Lucas’s flirting ability.

In just a minute or two, he actually managed to get Wendy’s phone number.

That was seriously impressive.

But calling Lucas “Grandpa” in front of Zayden and Wendy would be too humiliating.

“Young Master Grey, of course, I’ll honor the bet. But how about this, I’ll call you Grandpa in private. No need to say it out loud here.”

If Lucas were an ordinary guy, he would probably have let it slide.

After all, being called Grandpa didn’t actually benefit him, and making enemies over it wasn’t worth it.

But Lucas was a villain.

A villain who never gave up a chance to take advantage of someone.

There was no way he’d miss this one.

So he flatly refused. “No way. You said it, so now you have to follow through. I’ll count to three. If you don’t say it, that means your word is worthless, and it also means Zayden doesn’t keep his people in line. Your choice. Three, two...”

“Grandpa.”

Hector gritted his teeth and called out before Lucas even finished counting.

There was no other choice. This involved Zayden. He’d rather let his own pride be trampled than see Zayden’s reputation take a hit.

“Good boy, haha!”

Lucas laughed gleefully and patted Hector’s shoulder.

“Don’t forget to visit Grandpa for New Year’s. I’ll give you a red envelope when the time comes. Man, this is great. I came to Red Pavilion and ended up with a grandson.”

He was riding high, but he didn’t want to push Zayden or Hector too far. So he let it go, waved it off, and walked away in another direction.

That counted as checking in at Red Pavilion for the night.

He had beaten up a rich kid, picked up a new grandson, and seen Zayden. It was time to head home.

He couldn’t pick up girls here, and he didn’t dare gamble. There wasn’t much else to do. It was a pity he hadn’t run into David’s lackey who was supposed to scam Zavier tonight.

But Zavier wasn’t ready to leave. He insisted on finding a booth so they could sit and enjoy the view of all the beautiful women here.

The villain had already set an example for him. If he acted too proper, it might seem weird. So Lucas sat down too.

The moment they did, Wendy came over and sat down next to Lucas.

Lucas was stunned. Zavier was stunned too.

She had already given Lucas her number and came over to confirm it. That was more than enough.

Now she even followed him over here?

Could it be she was actually into Lucas?

“What are you doing here?”

Lucas had a bad feeling. After all, Wendy was one of David’s future harem girls.

According to the plot, her relationship with David didn’t really develop until much later.

By that time, Lucas’s entire family had already been reduced to begging on the streets.

So he figured he had nothing to worry about when he first learned her identity. But now that she was following him, he couldn’t just ignore it anymore.

Wendy crossed her legs, holding a glass of blood-red liquid in her hand, smiling. “What, I’m not welcome? I just helped you get a grandson. Aren’t you going to thank me?”

“Of course you’re welcome. How could you not be?”

Zavier nearly jumped out of his seat in excitement.

“Miss Moore, what an honor. Lucas and I are truly flattered. Please, order anything you’d like — food, drinks, it’s all on us. Right, Lucas?”

What do you mean, right?

Aren’t you supposed to be head over heels for Yelena?

Why are you trying to please Wendy now? Aren’t you afraid you’ll ruin your character arc?

Lucas took a deep breath and really wanted to find an excuse to send Wendy away, but he couldn’t think of anything appropriate. So he kept quiet and tried not to engage.

Once they left Red Pavilion, he’d keep as far away from her as possible. No way was he getting involved with another female lead.

He was already struggling to deal with Rose.

And speak of the devil.

As soon as he thought of her, his phone rang. It was Rose.

Seeing her name on the screen, he broke into a cold sweat.

If she found out he was hanging out at Red Pavilion, she’d probably tear his head off. Even if she didn’t, she would definitely start doubting his feelings for her.

Zavier glanced at his phone and smirked. “Uh-oh, your girlfriend’s checking up on you. Better pick up. I’ll cover for you.”

Lucas had no choice. He had to answer.

Even though he was nervous, he pressed the call button. “Hey, Rose. It’s pretty late. What’s up?”

“Can’t I call you just because I want to?”

Classic.

That line was a classic warning sign.

Whenever a woman said that, it meant she was upset. Lucas instantly felt the pressure rise.

“Of course you can. You can call me anytime, even if I’m showering or on the toilet. I just got a little worried. Thought something might be wrong.”

“I’m fine. I just want to know — where are you right now?”

“ ... Huh?”

Why was she asking that?

Lucas coughed and replied in a small voice, “I’m hanging out at Zavier’s place.”

Zavier leaned in right away. “Yeah, that’s right, Rose. I invited Lucas over. We’re just drinking and chatting. You two aren’t married yet, and you don’t live together, so no need to be so strict. Don’t worry, I won’t lead him astray.”

“Is that so?”

Rose’s voice suddenly turned icy.

“I didn’t know Red Pavilion belonged to you, Zavier.”

That one line froze both Lucas and Zavier like statues.

She knew they were at Red Pavilion.

Someone must’ve seen them and tattled on them.

Lucas jumped to his feet. “Babe, listen. This is all a big misunderstanding. Yes, I did come to Red Pavilion, but I wasn’t here to mess around. Zavier just wanted to celebrate the bullying incident getting resolved. I didn’t do anything bad. I was just here to look around, that’s it!”
