Chapter 48: The Male Protagonist’s Cruel Claim

He squeezed Lucas’s arm in shock.

“Damn, is this muscle real? You’re not wearing a fake muscle suit, are you?”

Lucas chuckled. “Why would I wear something like that? I just like working out a bit when I’m bored at home. Got a bit of strength, so don’t be afraid, bro. These small fries are nothing. Handle them however you want. If they dare fight back, I’ll make sure they can’t get out of bed for three days.”

Hearing that, the rich kids immediately backed off.

Their family status wasn’t much higher than the Grey family’s, so they couldn’t rely on their background to crush him.

And if they couldn’t even win a fight, continuing to mess with Lucas would just mean becoming his punching bags.

Zavier, on the other hand, got excited.

With such a strong friend backing him up, what did he have to fear? He charged at the rich kids and unleashed a storm of wild punches.

Lucas stayed put, watching. Whenever he saw someone trying to fight back against Zavier, he casually grabbed a nearby decoration and threw it at them.

Every throw hit hard and landed with precision, either striking their mouths or smashing into their noses.

In no time, the rich kids were left with bloody noses and split lips, furious but helpless. They could only leave, cursing as they went.

Zavier was so focused on the fight that he didn’t even notice Lucas helping him from behind. He thought he’d scared them off on his own and turned red with excitement.

“Damn, that felt amazing. So this is what fighting feels like. Tomorrow I’m finding someone to teach me how to brawl. I want to start acting tough too.”

As the two chatted and laughed, a few more rich kids walked over.

These ones were different from the last group. They looked more refined and even offered Lucas a drink.

“Young Master Grey, I’ve heard a lot about you. How about being friends?”

Lucas knew that anyone who could enter the Red Pavilion, especially this VIP area, had to be someone special. He accepted the drink politely.

“Sure. May I ask your name?”

“Zayden Young.”

He gave just two simple words and said nothing else.

It was as if he was confident that just saying his name would be enough for Lucas to know who he was.

And Lucas did know.

Because Zayden was David’s sworn brother.

According to the story, David would soon meet Zayden. After they became friends, Zayden helped David a lot. Eventually, during the war against the four major families, Zayden sacrificed himself to save David. His last words were to ask David to take care of his sister.

So, Zayden’s sister ended up in the Dragon King male lead’s harem.

And naturally, all of Zayden’s family wealth also ended up in the male lead’s hands.

Regarding this part of the plot, Lucas had only two words in mind.

What a beast.

The guy died for you, and you take his sister and fortune?

And it wasn’t just that. You didn’t even give his sister a proper title. You kept her like a concubine, barely visiting her a few times a year. Are you even human?

But then again, this was a Dragon King male lead story. That kind of plot was par for the course.

Forget the sister. If Zayden had left behind a sister-in-law, she would’ve ended up in the harem too. After all, many of these protagonists loved a good mature woman storyline.

So as Lucas looked at Zayden, his feelings were complicated.

On one hand, Zayden was part of the male lead’s faction, making him an enemy. On the other hand, knowing his eventual tragic end, Lucas couldn’t help but feel some sympathy.

“Why are you quiet?”

Zayden’s lackey, Hector Tate, glared at Lucas.

“Where’s your manners?”

Zayden raised a hand to stop him and smiled. “Maybe Young Master Grey hasn’t heard of me. I...”

“I’ve heard of you.”

Lucas quickly cut in.

“Who in Su City hasn’t heard of Zayden? Of course, I know you. I just didn’t expect someone of your status to approach me. I was a little surprised, that’s all.”

Zayden wasn’t great at business, but he had a lot of clout in the military.

In the latter part of the story, the male lead’s power expanded rapidly thanks to Zayden’s help in managing things.

A lot of people misunderstood him, thinking he was just riding on his family’s coattails. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Lucas knew all this, but he didn’t want to get too close.

Letting your enemies learn too much about you was never wise.

“You’re too polite, Young Master Grey. I’m not some big shot. I just rely on the family to scrape by.”

Zavier, realizing who the guy was, quickly tried to build a connection.

“If you’re not a big shot, then we’re not even small fry. Young Master Young, let me tell you, we may not beat you in other areas, but when it comes to picking up girls, our Young Master Grey is definitely a heavyweight in Su City. That’s no exaggeration, right?”

What the hell?

It was one thing to brag like that to random people, but how could you say that in front of Zayden?

That’s just embarrassing.

Lucas was about to stop Zavier, but then paused. Wait a second, he and Zavier were basically cut from the same cloth.

If Zavier thought that way, then so would he.

If he acted all modest now, like some well-mannered gentleman, wouldn’t that totally break his character?

Catching on quickly, Lucas puffed up his chest and declared with pride, “If I’m not the best at picking up girls, then no one is. Landing Su City’s number one beauty proves it.”

Upon hearing that, a look of disdain clearly flashed through Zayden’s eyes.

But he was composed and only smiled silently.

His lackey, Hector, couldn’t hold it in, though.

“Everyone knows that Rose only agreed to marry you because her family ran into trouble and needed the Grey family’s help. And you still have the nerve to brag about it?”

Who is this clown?

Drag him out already.

Lucas put on a look of indignation.

“She needed help. So why didn’t she go to you? Or someone else? Why did she come to me? Isn’t it because I’m irresistible?”

Hector snorted. “That’s because we don’t take advantage of others. If you’re really that charming, why don’t you pick someone up right here at the Red Pavilion?”

He glanced over and saw a beautiful woman at the bar. His lips curled into a smirk.

“Look over there. That lady is drinking alone. If you can get her number in three minutes, I’ll call you Grandpa every time I see you.”

Lucas followed his gaze. Sure enough, there was a woman at the bar.

Just from her back, you could tell she was a stunner.

Her waist was so slim it probably took just one hand to measure it, yet her figure was impressively full up top. Her long black hair shimmered like silk under the lights. She was strikingly beautiful.

Honestly, if someone looked that good from behind, her face couldn’t be that bad either.

But she gave off a very unapproachable vibe.
