Chapter 47: We Are All Licking Dogs Together
What a cold-hearted woman.
Lucas silently complained in his heart.
Of course, all those complaints were basically heard by Jasmine.
While she kept smiling and chatting with Susanna, she was also doing her best to control her expression. Her chopsticks, however, stabbed harder into her bowl each time.
Especially when she heard Lucas cursing her in every possible variation, she nearly lost control and rushed over to punch him.
“Ai, if you’re unwilling, that’s fine. We won’t force you. Let’s wait until your dad comes back and talk then. For now, just rest at home. When you want to go out, let Lucas take you around Su City.”
Jasmine turned to look at Lucas and said sweetly, “Alright then, thank you in advance, little Lucas.”
Little brother, my ass.
You’re only three months older than me. How dare you act like you’re the elder?
Lucas grumbled internally but didn’t respond.
Smack!
To his surprise, Susanna suddenly slapped him. “Lucas, what’s wrong with you? Your sister is talking to you, and you’re ignoring her? That’s so rude. Jasmine, don’t take it to heart. This child has been spoiled by me and keeps getting into trouble lately.”
Jasmine simply smiled without replying.
At that moment, Lucas’s phone rang. He didn’t care that the whole table was watching him and answered it right away.
It was Zavier calling.
“Bro, what’s up?”
“Of course something’s up! Damn, Lucas, I just saw the news about your bullying incident. Why didn’t you tell me earlier? I’ve got media connections all over the place. Next time, you better come to me first!”
Ha. What an act.
Lucas didn’t believe for a second that Zavier had only just seen it.
Unlike Lucas, Zavier had been helping manage the family business for years and was quite competent at it. While he wasn’t quite at the level of the Dragon King male lead, he was one of the more capable rich kids in their circle.
Something this big had happened in their social circle. Even if Zavier wasn’t paying attention, his network would have told him.
He definitely knew.
He had just stayed silent at first, waiting to see if Lucas would crash and burn. He didn’t want to get dragged down. Now that the tides had turned and Lucas was in the clear, he suddenly popped up, acting like a close friend.
Lucas had seen this happen too many times.
Still, he didn’t call him out. He just smiled and said, “It’s in the past now. Nothing major.”
“For you to get through something like this, all I can say is damn impressive. This kind of thing calls for a proper celebration. Let me take you out to the most famous Red Pavilion in Su City. How about it?”
The Red Pavilion?
Lucas sucked in a breath. That name set off alarm bells in his head.
The Red Pavilion meant little to him personally, but for Zavier, it was a turning point. It was where his fate was sealed.
David had planted several operatives inside the Red Pavilion.
While partying there, Zavier met one of those operatives and eventually made him his right-hand man.
That man later became David’s key to slapping him down hard.
As Lucas recalled, Zavier ended up dying in a sea of fire, and it was that very subordinate who set the blaze.
Thinking fast, he asked, “Old Brown, have you been to the Red Pavilion before?”
“No! Come on, who do you take me for? I’m not the kind of guy who goes to a place like that all the time. I just wanted to do something wild this once to celebrate. If you don’t want to go, fine.”
So he hadn’t gone before. And he only wanted to go now because of Lucas.
That meant the storyline hadn’t begun yet.
Thinking of how Zavier had always supported him and taken his side, Lucas gritted his teeth and said, “Alright. I’ll go with you.”
Even if he couldn’t fully protect Zavier from David’s schemes, he could at least try to stop him from dying such a miserable death.
Once they were there, he’d observe the situation and try to identify David’s plants.
Maybe he’d even find a lead that could help him later.
After the meal, Susanna stayed on the couch to chat with Jasmine, while Lucas slipped out and drove straight to the Red Pavilion.
The Red Pavilion was well-known in Su City.
It was famous for its abundance of beautiful women, all of whom were highly talented in music, dance, and performance. Many wealthy men from out of town, and even from the capital, loved to visit.
There were rumors of men spending tens of millions a year just to lose themselves in the Red Pavilion’s charms.
Lucas had never once been there.
Not even the original Lucas, the one before him, had ever set foot inside.
So when he arrived at the entrance, he was overwhelmed by the dazzling lights and the crowd of handsome men and stunning women walking in and out. Their expressions were different from ordinary people’s, full of charm and excitement. Lucas felt completely out of place.
“Lucas!”
Suddenly, Zavier’s loud voice rang out from behind.
He threw an arm around Lucas’s shoulders and laughed heartily. “You got here early. What’s wrong? Couldn’t wait? It’s only just getting dark. The real party hasn’t even started.”
Lucas gave him a half-smile.
I’m just trying to make sure you don’t get yourself killed too soon.
They chatted briefly, then headed for the entrance.
Zavier casually pulled out a black card and handed it to the doorman, then led Lucas inside.
“You still want me to believe this is your first time here? You’re way too familiar with the place. You’ve definitely been here dozens of times.”
“Really, I haven’t.” Zavier looked serious. “This is my first time here. I’ve just been to similar places a few times. It’s all about the same routine. Besides, look at the card. It has my uncle’s name on it.”
Alright, Lucas would take his word for it for now.
Following Zavier inside, he soon entered a grand hall.
At first glance, it didn’t look much different from an upscale nightclub. On the central stage, foreign women in heels and muscular men were dancing provocatively to the music, drawing cheers from the audience.
Lucas noticed that the crowd wasn’t just made up of lecherous men. There were also many wealthy-looking women enjoying the show.
They moved through a beaded curtain into a hallway lined with soundproof rooms on both sides.
At the end of the hall, they handed ID to a woman with curly hair. She opened a hidden door.
Through the door, they went down a flight of stairs and arrived at the real Red Pavilion.
Below, the place was divided into countless sections for eating, drinking, partying, and even luxury car shows.
The car show wasn’t normal either. Models dressed like seductive fairies danced on the hoods of sports cars, posing in strange yet alluring ways that had men practically drooling.
But the most striking feature was the lavish casino.
