Chapter 46: The Dandy Young Master’s Power

“What?!”

Lucas was dumbfounded. “What do you mean, David?”

[Why is she suddenly bringing up David out of nowhere? Does she know him? That can’t be. She’s always been abroad, and David has always been in the North. There’s no way their paths have crossed.]

While he was still in a daze, Jasmine also stared with wide eyes.

Just now, she had thought Lucas was talking directly to her, which was why she chased after him to ask.

After all, he had said something about her becoming one of David’s many women, part of his harem. That was incredibly insulting.

She had to get to the bottom of it.

But when she stood in front of Lucas and stared at his face, she suddenly realized that what she heard wasn’t spoken aloud.

It had been his inner voice.

She had heard his thoughts even though Lucas hadn’t said a word.

She could actually hear what this guy was thinking?

Why?

“You ... you know David?” Lucas looked at her in shock. “How do you know him?”

Jasmine finally came back to her senses and quickly let go of his arm. She smiled calmly. “Do you really think just because I’m abroad I’ve shut myself off from everything? A lot has happened in Su City lately. I’ve heard some things. It’s not that easy to keep things from me.”

She flipped her hair to cover up her unease.

So that was it.

Lucas didn’t find that explanation entirely unbelievable. After all, Jasmine was no fool.

She was the female lead in a story with a Dragon King-type male lead. If she didn’t have some skills, how could a man like that fall for her?

Her intelligence network was strong, and David had indeed caused quite a stir recently. It made sense for her to have heard something.

Lucas relaxed a little and kept to his character. “David’s no good. He’s a broke loser who took a liking to my fiancée and had the nerve to show up at our engagement party to try and snatch her. She told him off and sent him packing!”

“These days he keeps messing with me in different ways. Every time I see him, I just want to beat him up.”

[David? He’s your man. The one you’re willing to betray the Grey family for. You’d rather turn your back on your own people just to cling to him. And you ask me who he is? Maybe ask yourself that.]

Jasmine: “...”

What kind of nonsense was this?

For a man, she would abandon the family that raised her and helped her?

That was impossible. There was no way Jasmine would ever be so short-sighted.

Still, why was Lucas saying this kind of thing in his head? Did something really happen between her and David?

Jasmine was full of doubts, but she didn’t ask.

She was a smart woman.

She already realized that there was some major secret behind all these strange events. If she asked directly, she might get dragged into a lot of trouble.

She would investigate on her own and find out the truth.

“Enough. Since he’s someone unimportant, there’s no need to talk about him. Take me home now. I can’t wait to see Uncle and Auntie.”

In a secret base inside an abandoned factory, in a meeting room.

Five young people sat or stood around a conference table, each with a different expression.

One of them, a girl dressed casually, was quietly seated in her chair, looking absent-minded. If it weren’t for the toy gun she was spinning in her hand, she would’ve looked just like a regular college student.

Across from her were two women sitting on the table. They were twins with long red-dyed hair and heavy makeup. They were taking selfies together, looking youthful and playful, like ordinary students without a care in the world.

On the other side of the table sat a tall, muscular man, nearly two meters tall, who sat upright with his eyes closed in meditation.

Next to him stood a long-haired man wearing a baseball cap pulled low over his face. He twirled a thin metal needle between his fingers, its surface glinting ominously.

These five were David’s most trusted subordinates.

The Thunder Squad.

Creak. The door to the room opened. A moment later, David entered with Yasmin at his side.

The five people immediately stood up in unison. “Boss.”

David gave them a glance, sat down, and finally nodded. “Good work. Sit.”

“I called you here because there are two things I need you to take care of. Xymon, Maximo, I want you two to investigate and monitor two individuals.”

He gestured toward Yasmin.

Yasmin walked forward and handed a dossier to each of the twins.

Xymon flipped open hers. “Lucas? From the information here, he doesn’t seem worth monitoring.”

Yasmin said calmly, “You’re right. On paper, he’s worthless. But the strange thing is, this worthless guy has interfered with our plans multiple times and caused us a lot of damage.”

“Unusual circumstances suggest something deeper. The boss suspects that Lucas is either pretending to be weak or that he has powerful forces behind him supporting his actions. Your job is to find out which it is.”

Xymon nodded and put the folder away. “Okay. Seems easy enough.”

Maximo asked, “But Boss, you said two people. This folder only has one.”

David and Yasmin exchanged a glance. A moment later, Yasmin spoke, slightly hesitant. “That’s because the second person you’re to monitor is someone you’re already familiar with. It’s Medusa, the assassin in our organization.”

“What?”

“Medusa?”

All five of them were stunned.

Wasn’t she one of the boss’s most trusted killers?

Why would she be under investigation?

Noticing the confusion in their eyes, David said coldly, “I suspect she’s betrayed me. That’s why you’re going to investigate and confirm the truth.”

“If you find proof that she has betrayed me, no matter the time or place, eliminate her immediately.”

The room fell into an eerie silence.

They weren’t close with Medusa, but they were all core members of David’s team.

In fact, compared to them, Medusa had always had more access and trust. Before any of them came on board, Medusa had been David’s first choice for any surveillance or assassination missions.

And now he was saying to kill her without hesitation?

“Ahem.”

The tension grew thick. Yasmin cleared her throat to break the silence.

“Since Lucas and Medusa are often together, Xymon and Maximo, you only need to follow one of them to keep track of both. Now, there’s a second mission I need one of you to handle.”

She pulled out another dossier and walked over to the long-haired man in the baseball cap.

“Moris, this one’s for you. The boss wants you to monitor Sylvia. Here’s her file.”

With a flick of his hand, Moris made the needle disappear.
