Chapter 44: Dragon King Cornered

While Yelena was questioning the reporter, Lucas continued punching and kicking him. No one knew how long it lasted before he finally wore himself out and stopped.

He straightened up, tossed the reporter aside, and turned to smugly face the boy he had once bullied.

“Getting beaten by me is your honor! Don’t ever come near me again, or I’ll beat you every time I see you. Got it?”

That guy was still haunted by the shadow of Lucas. Seeing him act so aggressively brought back memories of being bullied.

He quickly nodded like a woodpecker. “Got it, got it.”

“That’s more like it. Now scram. All of you, get lost. Otherwise, I’ll beat every last one of you too!”

Lucas swept his gaze across the reporters and issued threats to each of them.

The reporters, stunned, looked toward Sasha for help.

She gave them a helpless shake of her head and gestured for them to leave.

Soon after, the crowd of reporters trickled out one by one.

Only a few women remained in the hall with Lucas.

He looked around and felt a surge of helpless frustration.

What was going on?

Was this a Dragon King male lead’s meeting with all the female leads?

Why had they all shown up here?

Yelena walked up to Lucas and tugged at his suit, scolding him like an older sister lecturing her little brother.

“You really had to do the beating yourself? You have bodyguards, don’t you? After hitting him for so long, doesn’t your hand hurt?”

Huh?

You’re asking me if my hand hurts after beating someone?

Aren’t you the gentle and understanding type?

Where’s your compassion?

Just then, Sasha came over too, smiling softly.

“If I’d known Miss Miller had prepared so thoroughly, I wouldn’t have gone to all the trouble of organizing a press conference. I stressed for nothing.”

“But Lucas, really, how could you not tell me you did something so righteous?”

Lucas’s face twisted in confusion.

“I didn’t even know I did anything righteous. Back then, I really just didn’t like the guy and beat him up. I wasn’t trying to do anything noble!”

“Alright, alright, quit pretending.”

Sasha couldn’t hold back her laughter.

Of course, she knew it had all been a coincidence, but she said it on purpose.

Seeing him flustered was just too entertaining.

Soon, Sylvia and Monica came over as well.

The two were friends with Sasha but not so familiar with Yelena, so they jokingly commented to Sasha instead.

“Looks like we wasted our efforts. It all turned out fine. Lucas’s reputation is safe, and the Grey family won’t be dragged down.”

Monica suddenly reached out and twisted Lucas’s ear.

“You little dummy. You could’ve just claimed you were doing it for justice and become a hero in Su City. You had the perfect chance to clear your past and clean up your image. But no, you insisted on being some spoiled rich brat. Are you dumb or what?”

“Ow, ow, ow, that hurts!”

Lucas quickly swatted her hand away and freed his ear.

“Wait a second, since when are we so close? Why are you putting your hands on me? I’m warning you, I already have a wife. She’s the love of my life, the only one I care about. I won’t even look at another woman, so quit trying to seduce me.”

Monica crossed her arms in frustration.

“Don’t flatter yourself. Who’s seducing you? And didn’t you just say you don’t look at other women? Why are you looking at me then? One more look and I’ll gouge your eyeballs out.”

“Go on then, gouge them out. If you don’t, you’re a little puppy.”

“Fine, I will. I’m not afraid.”

Just as the two were about to start arguing again, the others quickly stepped in to break it up.

Yelena pulled Lucas back. “You’re a grown man. Why are you bickering with a young girl? Aren’t you embarrassed?”

Sylvia dragged Monica aside. “Why are you taking a fool so seriously? If he had a brain, he wouldn’t be in this mess.”

“What mess? What do you mean by that?” Lucas was instantly annoyed. “Sylvia, say that to my face!”

The group bickered noisily, but the more they argued, the brighter their smiles became and the better their mood grew.

Meanwhile, in a villa a few kilometers away, David didn’t look nearly as pleased.

At that moment, a few subordinates were kneeling before him, reporting in.

“We haven’t identified the full source behind the attacks on our Su City holdings yet. But it’s clear the force is local, and they’re linked to international operations. They’re using foreign reserve currency.”

“Their target is obvious. They’re precisely striking our stock market. In just one day, our shares have dropped by thirty percent, evaporating billions.”

David clenched his fists. Veins bulged as his fury threatened to erupt.

What the hell was going on?

Why had his stocks come under such fierce attack in just two days?

Who was doing this?

Could it be ... Lucas?

As soon as the name popped into his head, David shook it off.

It couldn’t be that loser. If he had this kind of skill, he wouldn’t just be a rich playboy. And if he were that capable, he wouldn’t have spent years chasing Rose with zero progress, only managing to corner her into marriage when her family hit rock bottom.

So then who?

Just then, one of his trusted aides rushed in.

“Boss, we found the culprit behind the stock attack. It was the Morgan family. More specifically, Sylvia. She used her personal funds. We traced the source to a foreign company that just opened a branch in Su City. Sylvia is the largest shareholder and legal representative.”

Sylvia?

It was her?

David’s eyes widened with rage and killing intent.

Not long ago, she nearly cost him his ability to have children. And now, she was going after his stocks?

Did she really think he wouldn’t kill a woman?

“There’s one more thing, Boss. Lucas just held a press conference at the hotel, explaining the bullying incident.”

David sneered. “I know about that. I already sent someone to handle it. Don’t worry.”

The subordinate gave him a sympathetic look and hesitated. “That’s exactly what I need to report. The reporter you sent has returned. Apparently, Yelena stood up for Lucas in person.”

“She not only revealed criminal evidence against the so-called bullying victim, turning Lucas into a righteous hero, but also teamed up with Sasha. Together, they got the media to issue a statement. If anyone dares target Lucas again, they’ll step in and make sure that person can’t operate in Su City.”

David was left speechless.

“You’re saying Yelena and Sasha?”

These two women were actually willing to go that far for Lucas?

Why?

Do they like him?

Impossible. Lucas was already engaged. Even if he weren’t, what did he have that could attract women like that?

There had to be something else going on.

But what exactly the issue was, David couldn’t figure out right away.
