Chapter 40: Worthy of the Villain’s Name

As the host, Lucas opened a bottle of beer, gulped it down in one go, and then turned on the music.

With the booming beat, the party officially began.

Even though he had just been questioned by the crowd, Lucas didn’t hide. He wandered through the crowd with a drink in hand, looking completely thrilled.

Seeing his carefree, shameless attitude, everyone around him looked on with contempt.

“This is the first time I’ve seen a bully act so brazenly.”

“Disgusting. People who don’t know better might think everyone in Su City’s upper circles is like him. He’s ruining our reputation.”

“I really thought this party was meant to clear his name. Turns out he’s owning up to everything, even saying he beat someone just because he didn’t like him. Has he completely given up?”

“Poor parents of his. My dad says they’re good people, and they ended up raising someone like this.”

“Has Rose been brainwashed or something? Why hasn’t she broken off the engagement yet?”

“Probably just a matter of time. Wait and see, Rose will definitely run.”

Despite the loud music, the sneers and insults kept coming. Zavier started to feel uncomfortable hearing them, but Lucas was having the time of his life.

Go ahead, curse me.

The more vicious the insults, the higher my villain score will be.

He hadn’t received any system rewards in a while. This time, no matter what, he was aiming for a perfect score.

The more he listened, the more excited he got. With a beer in one hand and snacks in the other, Lucas was thoroughly enjoying himself.

But just then, a beautiful girl with two braided pigtails suddenly rushed up to him and slapped him hard across the face.

The slap came so unexpectedly that Lucas was stunned, standing there dazed as he looked up at the girl in front of him.

He was certain he didn’t know her.

“Why did you hit me?”

The girl was furious. “Because I can’t stand you throwing your weight around. I don’t like you, so I hit you. Isn’t that what you said? You hit people when you don’t like them. So what, now you can’t take your own medicine?”

Damn it. You hit me just because you don’t like me?

Who do you think you are?

A novel’s female lead?

Lucas instantly got angry. Just as he tightened his grip on the beer bottle and was about to splash her with it, a commotion erupted in the crowd.

He turned his head and looked over, only to see Sylvia and Monica appear.

One was bright and stunning, the other cool and aloof. One wore a crop top and loose jeans with her hair in a high ponytail, while the other was dressed in a lace dress, long curls, and a beret.

Either of them showing up alone would have been enough to cause a stir.

Both were just as beautiful as the four great beauties of Su City. One had just returned from abroad, the other had just arrived in Su City. They rarely appeared in public and were a fresh mystery to the city’s rich kids.

So when the crowd saw them, they froze in place.

“Who are they?”

“No idea, but they’re gorgeous.”

Only Lucas looked like his eyes were about to pop out of his head.

He hadn’t invited them.

“Lucas.”

Sylvia walked up and casually draped an arm over his shoulder.

“You’re throwing a party and didn’t invite me? What’s the meaning of that? Looking down on me?”

Monica stepped to his other side and gave a haughty snort. “We’ve been working ourselves to death for you, and you still have the nerve to throw a party?”

Lucas looked at one, then the other, and said helplessly, “Wait, how did you two get here? I didn’t invite you.”

Sylvia grinned. “Word of your party is all over the place. It wasn’t hard to find out. Besides, with our status, getting in isn’t exactly difficult. You think we need an invitation?”

She leaned closer and whispered into his ear, “Don’t worry. We’ve already gotten revenge for you.”

Everyone nearby stared at how familiar they looked with Lucas and began whispering in jealousy.

“Those two beauties are Lucas’s friends?”

“Wait, isn’t that girl the up-and-coming actress-director Monica?”

“I think it is! Isn’t she filming in Su City?”

“How does Lucas know them? Don’t they know about the bullying? Why are they still hanging out with him?”

“They probably don’t know. If they did, there’s no way they’d be here.”

Lucas was confused too.

[Do these two airheads not know about the video showing me bullying someone? That doesn’t make sense. Sylvia just said they got revenge for me. That has to be what she meant.]

“What revenge? When did I ask you to get revenge?”

Sylvia smiled. “You didn’t. I took the initiative. Problem?”

Lucas was still puzzled. “Who did you get revenge on? We still haven’t even figured out who uploaded the video.”

“You need to ask?”

Monica cut in with a scoff.

“I’ve only been in Su City for a few days, and even I can tell it was David.”

What?

It really was David?

Lucas gritted his teeth. What kind of Dragon King protagonist is this? How could he pull such a low move?

Then he quickly composed himself and asked nervously, “What did you do to David?”

Please don’t say you beat him up or ruined him.

It was already hard enough seeing the female leads ignore the protagonist. If they went even further, this whole world might fall apart.

Seeing how nervous he looked, Sylvia giggled. “Relax. David’s fine. We just gave him a little warning.”

Good. As long as it wasn’t anything too extreme. Between the male and female lead, small fights were basically flirting. It could still be salvaged.

Still, he asked, “You saw the video of me bullying someone. Didn’t it make you hate me?”

[Even if the person in the video wasn’t actually me, they don’t know that. From their perspective, I’m a vicious, cowardly scumbag. So why don’t they seem to care at all?]

Sylvia laughed. “Sure, it was awful. But I’m no saint. Besides, that happened back in your college days. Even the law has statutes of limitations. What’s this compared to that?”

Right. He almost forgot. Sylvia was a villain too. In fact, she was the biggest female villain in the whole novel. Of course, she wouldn’t care.

But what about Monica?

He turned to her. “Do you think the same?”

Monica raised an eyebrow with pride. “I’m a kind person, but I stand by my friends. If I see you as my friend, then whatever you do is right.”

Everyone present was stunned by what they just heard. Their worldview felt like it had been shattered.

So this is what it means to side with your people regardless of reason?

So bullying can be justified now?
