Chapter 39: Heroines Unite Against the Hero
No ... why was everyone telling him to go back to sleep?
Were they treating him like a three-year-old, or like the god of sleep?
He had planned to use this incident to break off the engagement, but now that seemed impossible.
Feeling dejected, Lucas trudged upstairs and flopped onto the bed in a starfish pose.
If things weren’t going to work with Rose, he could still try with the other female leads.
Yelena, Sylvia, Sasha ... all of their character arcs had started to go off course. He was determined to take this chance to cut ties with all of them.
Just as he made up his mind, each of the female leads he had thought of began to take action.
“Why do we have to cooperate with him? I don’t understand, Grandpa. The Davis family doesn’t even operate in Su City. No matter how powerful David is, his influence is limited to that place. Why should we let him control us?”
Monica sat on the sofa, gripping her phone tightly and trembling with anger.
Just moments ago, she had received a barrage of phone calls from her brother, parents, and relatives. They all had one goal: to pressure her into working with David.
Some even wanted David to be cast as the male lead in her new movie.
“This is ridiculous, Grandpa. I absolutely refuse. Making movies is just a personal hobby. I’ve never used a single cent from the family. And letting David take control of the prestigious Davis family would be a complete disgrace.”
“Shut your mouth!”
But Old Master Davis exploded with anger upon hearing her words.
“As long as you bear the Davis name, everything you do is tied to this family. If you don’t want to listen to me, then don’t be my granddaughter. If you don’t want to drive me to my grave, call David and agree to the cooperation right now.”
With that, the old man hung up.
Monica stared at her phone in shock. After a long pause, she finally snapped and threw it across the room.
In all these years, no matter what she did wrong, her grandfather had never scolded her, let alone said something so severe.
And now, for the sake of David?
Her grandfather was actually willing to cast her out of the family?
He must have been blackmailed by David, or maybe someone else in the Davis family had been compromised and David was using it against them.
That despicable man. After being kicked out last time, he actually resorted to such underhanded tactics and now wanted to threaten her by going after her family.
Truly disgusting.
Just then, the phone she had thrown began to ring.
It was the custom ringtone she had set for Sylvia, so despite being sulky, she walked over, picked it up, and answered the call.
“What took you so long to pick up?”
Sure enough, it was Sylvia on the other end.
Monica pouted and gritted her teeth. “David is threatening my family, trying to force me to work with him. He even wants to be the male lead in my new movie.”
“David?”
The moment she heard that name, Sylvia frowned.
“Why are you even in contact with him?”
Monica replied angrily, “My filming location is on his turf. A couple of days ago, I invited Lucas over for tea, and I happened to invite David to discuss things too. We didn’t end on good terms, and now he’s retaliating like this.”
She vented hard, clearly wanting Sylvia to stand up for her.
After all, Sylvia had always been a tomboy. Unlike other girls who liked to argue, she preferred solving things with her fists.
The best way to deal with scum like David was a solid beating.
Sylvia twirled her hair and tilted her head. Then she suddenly grinned. “A couple of days ago? That lines up with when Lucas got targeted. I’d say there’s a high chance David is behind it.”
Monica blinked. “Lucas got targeted? What do you mean?”
She hadn’t visited the local forum and hadn’t seen the video.
Sylvia gave her a quick rundown. “I had my family’s tech team look into the video. The server that uploaded it is out of town and was encrypted. Whoever posted it clearly wanted to stay anonymous.”
“For someone to go that far, to the point where even our team can’t crack it, they must be someone with significant power. I can’t think of anyone besides David.”
“Unbelievable!” Monica fumed. “That bastard not only schemed against me, but also against Lucas. He’s a real scumbag.”
Sylvia snorted. “Yeah, he’s a lowlife. But it’s too late to just curse him out. We need to help Lucas deal with this. I’ll drive over now. Let’s meet up and talk.”
“Alright!”
...
At the Miller family’s pharmaceutical plant.
A researcher in a lab coat held up a pill with excitement on his face. “It worked! Both the Longevity Pill and the Clarity Pill are complete. This is incredible. The Miller family’s pharmaceutical company is about to take off!”
Old Master Miller and Yelena exchanged a smile when they heard this.
They both knew the researcher was telling the truth.
Either of those pills alone would be enough to crack open the global medical market and establish dominance quickly.
And now they had both?
Even more incredible was that they had obtained both formulas for free, at no cost.
Once the pills hit the market, the profits would be unimaginable.
“Dad, hurry and send someone to file the paperwork. The product design is nearly finished. As soon as your end is handled, we can start promotions and begin selling.”
Old Master Miller nodded enthusiastically. “Alright, I’ll handle it personally and speed things up.”
After assigning the rest of the tasks to the staff, Yelena walked out of the lab.
Just outside, her secretary was waiting for her.
She asked right away, “How did the investigation go?”
The assistant whispered, “We found the person who was bullied back then. He’s still living in Su City and works at a supermarket selling fresh goods. We asked him about the video in private. He said he didn’t post it, and he even contacted the forum to ask them not to show his face, but they ignored him.”
So the video had nothing to do with the victim. It was uploaded by a third party.
Yelena thought for a moment and said, “Find this person and tell him I’m willing to hire a lawyer to help him sue the forum for violating his image rights. If we win, he could get at least a million in compensation.”
“Yes.”
“And contact Lawyer Wade. Have him go with you.”
After arranging everything, Yelena walked toward the parking lot while pulling out her phone to call Lucas.
She could turn a blind eye to other things, but not when someone tried to harm Lucas so openly.
Besides, Lucas had done the Miller family such a big favor. Both emotionally and logically, she had to help him to the end.
Meanwhile, on the second floor of the Porter family’s stone workshop, behind a corner screen.
Sasha gently stroked a piece of jade, then smiled as she placed it in front of the man sitting across from her.
“As long as you help me, this piece of jade is yours.”
