Chapter 28: Protected by Bodyguards
With the seven captures and seven releases gone, David was just another enemy, not someone who had earned submission through power and respect.
What the hell was this? How was the male lead supposed to show off now?
Lucas looked at David and, for a moment, genuinely pitied him.
The proud God of War from the North, constantly getting humiliated, this was just sad.
David glared at Mr. Dale and sneered. “Get lost. Otherwise, I’ll poison you again.”
Mr. Dale actually flinched at that. He instinctively pulled Zavier aside and stepped back.
Seeing this opportunity, David strode toward Lucas.
Lucas blinked. What was this guy doing?
Was he really coming to hit him?
No way. He only came here to eat today. He had zero intention of getting involved in this plotline.
Why wasn’t the Dragon King dealing with Zavier and instead coming after him?
As David got closer, Lucas had no choice but to act tough.
“Fox, take another step and I’ll break your damn legs!”
Naturally, those words did nothing to stop David’s approach.
But just when David was one step away, Yelena suddenly stood between them.
“Mr. Fox, neither Lucas nor I have ever provoked you. Don’t take this too far.”
Seeing her protect Lucas, David nearly burst with rage.
Ever since he returned to Su City, the only woman who had truly moved his heart was Yelena.
He wanted Rose because of childhood affection and her unique constitution.
He wanted Sasha because of her family background and sensual charm that satisfied him in bed.
But Yelena gave him something deeper, something spiritual.
Her every smile and expression left a lasting impression. Late at night, thoughts of her would creep into his dreams, scratching at his heart.
After a few encounters, though, he realized she didn’t care about him at all. In fact, she seemed to avoid him.
He didn’t understand why.
The more she ignored him, the more he wanted to conquer her.
But now she was standing with Lucas again, getting in his way.
He couldn’t accept this.
How could she compare him to that bastard and even choose that bastard?
“Miss Miller, this is between me and Lucas. Please don’t get involved.”
Yelena smiled. “You’re exaggerating, Mr. Fox. I don’t want to get involved in your business. But since I brought Lucas here, I’m responsible for his safety. If you’re set on hurting him, you’ll have to deal with me first.”
Lucas wasn’t surprised anymore.
In this novel, all the female leads were a little crazy.
Rose got engaged to him on a whim.
Yelena completely ignored the Dragon King.
Sylvia had even kicked him between the legs.
He pulled Yelena behind him. “I don’t need a woman to speak for me. Step aside.”
Then he clapped his hands.
“Bodyguard, get out here!”
Bodyguard?
Everyone, including Yelena, looked around.
“No wonder he’s acting so bold. He brought a bodyguard.”
“Still useless. Even Mr. Dale didn’t dare mess with him. What can a bodyguard do?”
“He’s done for. Young Master Brown brought a group, and they all got wrecked. He’ll end up worse.”
Of course, Lucas knew the bodyguard wouldn’t help.
Because the bodyguard was actually David’s subordinate.
But that was perfect. He was here to set up a stage for the main character to show off. That was his duty as the villain.
“Bodyguard, did you not hear me? Get out here or you’re fired. I’ll call my mom and make sure you lose your job!”
Sure enough, Medusa couldn’t stay hidden.
In a flash, she appeared beside Lucas like a ghost.
As soon as David saw her, his eyes widened.
Medusa? She was here?
And she hadn’t even messaged him?
Lucas almost laughed at the look on his face.
[You placed Medusa to spy on me. Now I’ll make her fight you directly and let the two of you tear into each other.]
“Bodyguard, I don’t like that guy. Go teach him a lesson.”
Medusa looked at David. She said nothing. She didn’t move.
She didn’t know what to do.
If she attacked, it would be betrayal.
If she didn’t, she might lose her job.
David clenched his fists. He was just as conflicted.
Both of them stood frozen, unsure of what to do.
Suddenly, Lucas stepped behind Medusa and shoved her forward.
She stumbled and lunged toward David.
David dodged out of instinct. But then, to his surprise, Medusa attacked.
She slipped behind him and kicked.
This was the first time she had ever raised a hand against David.
But once she started, she couldn’t stop the hatred inside her.
Why should she be his dog just because he was the male lead?
Why should she risk her life for him?
Why did he praise her enemy instead of her?
Today, she was going to settle this.
She was Lucas’s bodyguard now. When she struck, she held nothing back. She used nearly ninety percent of her strength.
David was still trying to decide whether to hold back when Medusa’s attack landed.
So she really meant it.
He tensed up and was about to retaliate when he sensed a wave of killing intent.
He turned just in time to dodge as Mr. Dale swung a blade at his head.
David raised his arm to block. When he turned back toward Medusa, her fist was already crashing into his face.
Bang!
Blood poured from his nose.
Medusa immediately jumped back to a safe distance.
“Hahaha!”
The crowd erupted into laughter. Everyone pointed at David’s face, now dripping with blood.
At that moment, David became the laughingstock.
Even Yelena narrowed her eyes with a faint smile. Her expression showed contempt, scorn, and ridicule.
David’s face turned red, then dark.
He had never imagined that he, the God of War from the North, would be humiliated by nobodies like Zavier and his own subordinate.
The rage inside him exploded.
“Ahhhhh!”
He roared.
With a loud crash, he shattered the blade in Mr. Dale’s hand with a single punch.
“Mr. Dale, look out!”
His men rushed forward to protect him.
David didn’t hold back. He threw punches wildly, aiming straight at Mr. Dale and everyone behind him.
With his strength, he could have launched everyone here into the sky with a single punch.
“Stop!”
Just then, a shout rang out from the crowd.
A man wearing a floral shirt, twirling two walnuts in his hands with a fierce expression, stepped forward.
