Chapter 26: Surrounded Yet Struggling
At this moment, David couldn’t care less about whether he was being shameless. He just wanted to cripple Lucas, maybe even kill him. Otherwise, there was no way to quench the burning rage in his chest.
But just as he was about to unleash his killing intent and teach Lucas a brutal lesson, Sylvia and Sasha suddenly stepped forward from not far away, standing to his left and right.
Sylvia crossed her arms and stared at him provocatively. “David, today is Miss White’s birthday banquet. You came uninvited, and now you want to make a scene at her party? Don’t you have any shame?”
“Besides, the last time we fought, you became my defeated opponent, and I even kicked your ... well, you haven’t even recovered yet. Now you’re out looking for a beating again? With that kind of condition, you still want to revive the Fox family? You’d better go back and train in seclusion.”
David clenched his fists tightly and growled, “Don’t talk nonsense. When did you ever kick me there?”
“Oh?” Sylvia smirked. “So you’re only denying that part, which means you admit that I beat you?”
“In that case, if you want to lay a finger on Lucas, you’ll have to get past me first.”
Sasha somehow produced a folding fan, gently waved it, and said with a smile, “Mr. Fox, Young Master Grey is a distinguished guest of the Porter family, and a friend of mine. I’m the kind of person who would risk anything for a friend. If you try to mess with him in front of me, I won’t allow it.”
Lucas stood between the two women, glancing at Sylvia and then at Sasha. He was completely numb.
[What are you two doing? The male lead finally wants to fight me, and here you are, getting in the way again. Can you just go?]
“You two need to move! This is a duel between me and David. There’s no need for you women to get involved!”
He was trying his best to find the right words to drive off these two meddlesome women. But Sylvia didn’t even give him the chance.
“He’s not qualified to fight you. Not unless he defeats me first.”
Lucas was speechless. “Why are you even involved? I need to personally teach this loser a lesson today, you hear me? Get out of the way!”
He couldn’t take this wildly derailed plot anymore and simply grabbed Sylvia by the arm, pushing her aside. Just as he turned to deal with Sasha, Yelena suddenly stepped forward.
“Mr. Fox, do you still want that medicinal herb you’ve been looking for? If you keep this up, I won’t help you find it.”
Lucas was on the verge of losing it.
[You, again? Why are you coming out now?]
Yelena gave a faint smile. She was thinking that she didn’t want to come out either. But the number of women around him kept growing, and each one was making a stronger impression than the last. If she didn’t show up now, she might be completely forgotten. So she had no choice but to join the action.
Every woman at the scene was a top-tier beauty, and every one of them was speaking on Lucas’s behalf. The watching crowd of men were turning green with envy.
What kind of divine luck did this guy stumble into? How could he be favored and protected by so many stunning women all at once?
Was this even fair?
David wasn’t afraid to fight Sylvia. In fact, he was eager to regain some pride. He wasn’t afraid to face off against Sasha either. To be honest, as the War God of the North, he wouldn’t even blink if he had to fight the entire Porter family.
But he was afraid of Yelena.
The Miller family was a renowned family of medicine. All the rare herbs in the country had to pass through their hands. If he wanted the herbs needed to break through in his cultivation, he had to rely on the Miller family’s help. So he couldn’t afford to offend Yelena.
Seeing the firm, hostile look in her eyes, David took a deep breath. The fire in his chest had reached the top of his head, but he still had to suppress it.
“Fine! Yelena, I, David, will give you this favor today. But remember, you owe me one. And you must repay it.”
With that, he shot Lucas a fierce glare, then clenched his fists and strode out of the hotel.
Lucas watched him leave, wanting to stop him but afraid of breaking character. All he could do was curse at David’s back.
“Coward! If you’ve got guts, fight me like a man. You came to show off, and now you’re running away? What are you, a turtle?”
The crowd heard him and instead of criticizing him for being rude, they all burst into laughter.
“Classic Lucas.”
“Haha, Young Master Grey is hilarious.”
“He’s right. That guy came here just to show off and ended up humiliated.”
“Young Master Grey is the best!”
“Ocean Star, Dragon Jadeite ... no wonder Goddess White is willing to marry him. Any woman would fall for a guy like that in a tailored suit.”
Lucas stood frozen, completely stunned.
What the hell was he even here for today?
This was supposed to be the perfect setup for the male lead to crush and humiliate him. How did things turn out like this?
He turned and glared at Sylvia. It had to be this woman stirring up trouble. She kept sabotaging everything, turning his scenes into disasters, and leaving the male lead with no way to fight back except to run off.
She might be a villainess, someone meant to oppose the male lead. But wasn’t their relationship supposed to be love-hate?
Why did it feel like Sylvia had no love left at all and just wanted to destroy the male lead?
Heaven help him. Was there any way to live like this?
At that moment, James finally closed the lid of the box and cradled it like a treasure in his arms.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I hope that little incident didn’t ruin the mood. Let’s continue with the banquet. The White family has prepared many performances to welcome you all. Please enjoy yourselves.”
Soon, music began playing again, and the banquet resumed.
James carried the box over to Sasha and bowed as he started flattering her. He had always been fond of antiques and luxury goods, and he’d admired the Porter family for a long time. Now that he had a chance to form some connection, he wasn’t going to let it slip away.
Fortunately, Sasha, for Lucas’s sake, responded politely and even gave James her phone number. That was already considered a big favor.
Only Lucas, despite having won, stood there with a blank look, sighing endlessly in his heart. What was supposed to be a climactic moment had turned into this. How was he supposed to continue playing his role now?
Just then, his parents arrived from the airport, and Lucas had to pull himself together and celebrate Rose’s birthday with them.
After finally dragging through the banquet, Lucas eagerly got into the car to head home and collect himself.
“Lukie, Mom found the perfect bodyguard for you. You’re going to love her.”
Lucas gave a lifeless reply.
“She’s already at the house. I’ve spoken with her. From now on, she’ll not only be your bodyguard but also your personal assistant. You can tell her anything you need.”
“Oh.”
He wasn’t really listening to his mother’s words.
But when he got home and his mother led him into the living room, and he saw the bodyguard waiting for him, he came back to life in an instant.
[Why ... why is the bodyguard ... Medusa?]
