Chapter 24: Share or Surrender

A delicate, fragrant scent filled his nose. The soft warmth in his arms and that stunningly pure face up close overwhelmed Lucas’s senses.

No man could resist this kind of temptation.

Especially someone like Lucas, who already had simp tendencies.

So he didn’t hesitate at all. He wrapped his arm around her waist, pulled her into his embrace, and kissed those sweet red lips he had dreamed of so many times.

“Mmm...”

Rose let out a soft whimper by his ear. Lucas felt a jolt of electricity run through his body, and his hands began to roam as he deepened the kiss with passion.

[The job needs to be done, no doubt about that.]

[But if there’s an opportunity to take advantage, I’d be a fool not to.]

[After all, tonight’s plot goes smoothly, and Rose will end up dual-cultivating with David. Before that happens, isn’t it only fair I get some benefits too?]

The more he thought about it, the more determined he became to make the most of this moment. He held her close and tumbled with her onto the sofa.

Rose gently caressed his cheek while her mind turned hazy.

She was going to dual-cultivate with David tonight?

This little bastard was having wild thoughts again. She had already chosen to be his fiancée. How could she possibly care about David anymore?

Even if Lucas didn’t have the ability to see through the entire world, she would still choose him over David.

Because Lucas supported her career. Even after marrying her, he would let her go out and fight her battles.

David, on the other hand, would lock her away in the palace as nothing more than a trophy wife.

Just as their kissing grew heated and their clothes began to loosen, making it harder and harder to stop, a knock suddenly came at the door.

Then, James’s voice came through.

“Rose, most of the guests have arrived. The birthday banquet can begin now.”

Lucas swallowed hard and lifted his head. Looking at Rose beneath him, flushed and panting, he felt like a volcano about to erupt.

He leaned in again, wanting just a few more kisses, but Rose curved her lips into a smile and gently placed a finger on his lips.

“Honey, if you want, we can continue tonight. But right now, I have to go out and host the banquet.”

Too many powerful guests had been invited tonight. Many of them came from families even more prestigious than the White family. She couldn’t leave them unattended.

“ ... Fine.”

Lucas got up reluctantly. The thought of handing Rose over to David tonight made him feel miserable.

He had the strange sense that he was starting to feel something real for her.

He didn’t want to give her up to anyone else.

But the plot...

Ugh.

Scratching his head, he followed Rose out with a complicated expression.

As soon as they stepped outside, Rose was pulled away by James. Lucas was left to his own devices and wandered among the guests, exchanging a few pleasantries.

“Congratulations, Young Master Grey. You’ve won the beauty’s heart!”

“So how’s it going with the goddess White lately? You wouldn’t believe it, but you’re currently ranked number one on Su City’s Most Enviable Men list!”

“I heard Harmony Group just signed a new deal with your family and expanded the partnership. A double blessing. Business and love are both going great. No wonder Young Master White looks so radiant.”

There was no denying that good things lift the spirits.

Ever since his engagement to Rose, Lucas’s reputation in Su City had gradually improved.

In the past, no one but fellow rich brats even bothered with him. Now people were crowding around to flatter him.

“Lucas.”

A woman in a sea-green dress emerged from the crowd. It was Yelena, Rose’s close friend.

Her long hair flowed freely, adorned with a delicate butterfly clip. Her smile, as always, made people feel like a spring breeze was passing by.

“It’s been a while. How have you been?”

Lucas scratched his head and smiled awkwardly. “Good, good.”

[As long as none of you come bother me, I’m great. Just let me stay away from the female lead and away from David.]

[Though now that I think about it, Yelena really hasn’t shown up lately. What was she up to again? Oh right, she’s been helping David gather medicinal herbs.]

[David needs several rare herbs to break through with his divine technique. And our gentle red-faced confidante, Miss Miller, has been traveling with him to collect those herbs. Of course, she’s also there to witness him showing off, humiliating villains, and raising his favorability score.]

Yelena kept smiling, but in her heart, she was cursing him out.

Helping David find herbs for cultivation?

Like he deserved it.

It was true she had been searching for herbs, but not to help David. She had been finding and destroying them, so he couldn’t break through his technique.

That way, he couldn’t rely on his protagonist’s aura to force her into his harem, and he wouldn’t be able to deal with Lucas either.

She had gone through all this trouble, only to be misunderstood and brushed off by Lucas. It left her feeling bitter.

So she deliberately stepped closer to him.

“I’m not doing so well, actually, Young Master Grey.”

Lucas blinked. “You’re not? What’s wrong?”

You spend every day with the male lead, and you’re not doing well?

Yelena smiled slightly and spoke with meaning.

“The man I like doesn’t like me back. He keeps getting entangled with other women. How could I possibly be doing well?”

“You like someone?”

David?

Getting entangled with other women?

Rose?

Hiss ... He really couldn’t help with that one.

After all, David was destined to marry a dozen wives. He’d have a whole imperial harem. If Yelena was jealous already, she’d be drowning in vinegar later.

Lucas tried to comfort her.

“Men having multiple wives and concubines is pretty normal. The more capable the man, the more women he tends to attract. If you truly like him and want to be with him, you’ll have to accept that. Otherwise, you could always marry a simpler man and live a peaceful life. But then again, you’d probably look down on someone who lacked ambition.”

“As the saying goes, you can’t have both fish and a bear’s paw. You can’t have everything. You picked him, so now you have to accept him — even if it’s hard.”

Yelena smiled with pressed lips.

“You make some good points. I do feel a little better now. So then, tell me ... how can I make this man fall for me the most?”

“You?”

Lucas couldn’t help but give her a once-over. Today, she looked especially radiant and gentle, like a freshly bloomed white rose.

He had said it before, out of all David’s harem, Yelena was the most charming and the most wife-worthy.

That hadn’t changed.

“You don’t need to do anything. Just be yourself. Because the man you love, no matter how many women he has, will definitely like you the most.”

And it was true.

David had been with countless women, but only Yelena had his full respect. He never dared to lay a hand on her until she gave her consent.

“Really? You think so?” Yelena smiled even more softly. “Then I feel reassured.”

Once she destroyed every single herb David needed, she would officially challenge Rose.

Either they share Lucas.
