Chapter 21: Golden Finger Ability
Lucas was about to break down.
The way Brian was looking at him, it was like he wanted to eat him alive. That wasn’t how it was supposed to be. That look should’ve been aimed at the male lead.
He was just a minor villain on another storyline. What gave him the qualifications to deserve that glare?
“So you’re saying my junior sister is throwing herself at you? Ha. Who do you think you are? My junior sister is the young lady of the Morgan family and the descendant of a renowned master. She’s my junior sister. If she wanted the moon in the sky, someone would snatch it down for her. You think she would lower herself for you?”
Lucas was speechless. “Brother, when did I ever say she was throwing herself at me? I...”
Seeing that this explanation was going nowhere, he could only turn to Sylvia.
“You’re usually so chatty. Why are you pretending to be mute now? Say something to your Senior.”
Sylvia nearly laughed.
Explain?
What was there to explain?
She’d heard his inner thoughts and knew that her Senior had provoked David. He was going to get beat up badly. She had been stressing about how to save him.
Now, the problem was solved.
Her Senior’s attention had shifted to Lucas.
She knew Lucas too well. He had no ill intentions. In fact, he didn’t even have a scheming bone in his body.
Even though he knew the whole plot and could’ve used it to dominate everything, he still insisted on quietly following the path of a villain.
Where else could you find such a lovable little fool?
So the only way to keep her Senior alive was to make him jealous of this little fool instead.
With that thought, Sylvia gave a charming smile and suddenly wrapped her arms around Lucas’s neck. “What do you want me to explain? I just like you.”
Pfft!
Lucas almost choked on his own saliva.
“W-what did you say?!”
Sylvia beamed. “Why are you so worked up? Didn’t I tell you before? You can keep liking your Rose, but you can’t stop me from liking you.”
Lucas was dumbfounded.
No way. Girl, did a donkey kick your brain?
You’re saying this in front of the male lead, in front of a villain too. You’re throwing me into a fire pit.
As expected, everyone’s expression changed after hearing that.
Especially David—his face had turned pitch black.
Today was supposed to be his moment to shine. But now, everyone, even those secretly watching from nearby, had turned their attention to Lucas.
He had instantly become a background character, not even worthy of saying a word.
What made it worse was that although his encounter with Sylvia today had been accidental, she had kept her eyes on him the entire time before Lucas arrived.
But once Lucas came in, she hadn’t looked at him again.
He wasn’t particularly attached to Sylvia, but he couldn’t tolerate a beautiful woman, especially one of the highest caliber, choosing a useless rich playboy like Lucas over him.
Wasn’t that just stomping on his dignity?
As for Brian, he couldn’t accept it at all.
He’d been secretly in love with his junior sister for years. Now that he was finally back from abroad, he hadn’t even had a proper reunion with her. And yet she had become some other man’s puppy.
Even knowing that this man was already engaged and uninterested in her, she still clung to him.
How could he accept that?
“Junior sister, what exactly do you see in him? That guy screams spoiled rich brat. And I know Rose’s fiancé; he’s a total waste. Already in his twenties and still a failure. His whole family business is held up by his father. Are you blind?”
Lucas nearly applauded.
[Exactly, Sylvia, are you blind? I’m useless. I have nothing. Even if I inherit the Grey family business, it’s obvious I’ll waste it all. There’s no way I’d make it thrive. Why do you keep clinging to me? These other rich heirs, even the male lead, are all a hundred times better than me.]
Sasha glanced at Lucas in surprise after hearing that thought.
He really saw himself that way?
Strange.
If he knew he was such a loser, why didn’t he try to change?
But Sylvia just smiled proudly. “Who said you’re useless? I think you’re amazing. You’re kind, well-mannered, and devoted. That’s exactly what I love about you. The more devoted you are to Rose, the more I love you. Unless one day you stop liking Rose, then I’ll give up on you.”
Lucas almost coughed up blood.
Not like Rose?
That would completely destroy his character setting.
Wasn’t this basically forcing him to walk off a cliff?
Brian couldn’t take it anymore. He slammed his palm down on the table. “Junior sister, I can’t accept this! I can’t accept you liking a man like this! Lucas, do you dare to compete with me in three rounds? If I win, you stay away from my junior sister forever. If I lose, I’ll disappear from your sight for good!”
“Compete? With me?” Lucas was stunned. “Wait, you want to compete with me?”
This was supposed to be the male lead’s part!
It was David who was meant to beat down Brian, not him!
System!
Where are you?! This isn’t just the female lead breaking character. Even the villains are acting like they’ve lost their minds and won’t leave me alone.
“Yes, I want to compete with you. Do you dare or not?”
Lucas was about to reply when Sylvia giggled and said, “Why wouldn’t he? No matter what you want to compete in, Lucas can easily beat you. Isn’t that right, Lucas?”
“Screw that!” Lucas shook her hand off. “I’m not doing it!”
Brian narrowed his eyes dangerously. “What’s wrong? Are you scared?”
“Yes, I’m scared.”
After all, he was a villain. Acting like a coward helped preserve his character.
If he went out there acting like a hero, challenging Brian, then his whole persona would fall apart. So Lucas didn’t hesitate at all. He threw away his pride and let it be trampled on.
“I’m scared. I’m a coward. I don’t dare compete with you. Why don’t you go challenge that loser over there? If you beat him, I’ll call you dad.”
Lucas, quick on his feet, redirected the heat onto David.
This way, he could draw David’s hatred, solidify his own villain role, and push the story back on track.
[I really am a clever little fox.]
Sure enough, Brian turned to glare at David. “And who’s that?”
Lucas grinned. “That’s my wife’s lapdog. You didn’t know? When my wife and I got engaged, he actually showed up at the ceremony to crash it. But she completely ignored him, and he left in disgrace.”
“But he’s just some loser. Not worth mentioning. You, on the other hand, are far too impressive to deal with someone like me. So like I said, if you can beat him, I’ll call you dad. Heck, I’ll even call you grandpa.”
Anyway, the male lead had a god-tier protagonist halo. David would definitely win. Lucas wasn’t worried at all, and he was happy to raise the stakes.
David glared at Lucas, fists clenched so tightly that his fury was practically bursting from him.
Perfect.
