Chapter 12: Jazz and Legacy
The house in Village Creek filled with music. Frederick never lost his love for jazz, and he passed it on to his sons.
Chris picked up the trumpet and never put it down. He practiced for hours, driven by the same artistic passion that had sustained his father through war and prejudice. By the time he was a young man, Chris Albert was good enough to play with Duke Ellington’s Orchestra—the same Duke Ellington whose records his father had secretly played under his covers in Vienna decades before.
“Your father would have loved this,” Elinor told Chris before one of his performances. Frederick had passed away years earlier, but his spirit lived on in the music his son created.
