Chapter 14: Strength in Weakness

The desert wind whispered through the canyon, carrying the faint scent of sagebrush and sunbaked sand. Mika Thorn limped slowly on her crutches, her left leg still stiff, but the pain that had once made each step a torment had dulled. The journey had been long—months of training, of rebuilding her body, of forcing herself to walk, to aim, to move without hesitation despite her injuries.

Ahead, on a small rise, lay the simple grave of her teacher, the man who had trained her, guided her, and pushed her beyond limits she hadn’t known she possessed. She knelt beside it, crutches leaning against a rock, and placed a hand over the weathered wooden marker.

Her weakness, the things that had once left her mocked, injured, underestimated, and vulnerable ... had become her greatest strength.

It had forced her to rely on cunning, on timing, on patience. It had sharpened her mind, honed her instincts, and given her a perspective that no brute force could match. Her crutches had not been a symbol of fragility—they had been extensions of her resolve, tools that allowed her to survive when others would have fallen.
