Chapter 15: Two Teddy Bears
We tidied up the kitchen, then Tabby and Freddy wanted to see the taped-up window in the laundry. Visiting the laundry reminded me that the dryer had been finished for a while. I emptied it out and split the contents into a pile of my clothes and a pile of Freddy’s clothes and two tshirts – a purple one and a rainbow one.
Jenny was surprised. “Are those my tees?”
“Yeah. Last night, I needed some cloth in a hurry to clean up Freddy. I couldn’t find towels, so I borrowed your shirts. But look, they’re fine. A quick wash and they’re as good as new.”
In the meantime, Tabby got Freddy to help and together they moved all of the wet towels out of the washer and into the dryer. They set the dryer going again and Jenny thanked them for being so helpful. I saw the trough still had the sheet from last night soaking in it, which I’d forgotten about. The blood stain was gone from the sheet. It hadn’t been a big stain to start with but that stuff I’d put in with the water had done the job. I drained the water from the trough and threw the sheet into the machine.
“One sheet doesn’t really make a full load,” I said, thinking out loud.
“Just put it through a rinse and spin cycle to get rid of the gunk and leave it,” said Jenny. “I have more things to wash in the back of my car.” So, that’s what I did.
Freddy looked at his basketball uniform and then down at the shirt he was wearing.
“Is it okay if I keep wearing the shirt for a while?” he asked. “This is kind of comfortable.”
Jenny gave him a hug from behind. “You can do what you want, Freddy. Stay in the shirt all day if you want. I don’t mind. I don’t think anybody else cares.”
Freddy smiled at her. “Okay.”
Jenny said to all of us, “We’ve been inside all morning. We should go outside and get some fresh air.”
As soon as we were out the back. Jenny and I headed for the beach chairs intending to relax in the shade. Freddy wanted to go and find a ball in the shelter, but Tabby stood and stared at the pool with the saddest expression on her face.
“What’s the matter?” I asked.
“I was thinking it would be good to go for a swim, but I didn’t bring my bathers. Ava doesn’t have a pool at her place, so I didn’t think I’d need them.”
“That’s a shame,” I said. “I went for a swim yesterday and the pool is really nice.”
Freddy looked at me curiously. “I thought you didn’t have a sleepover bag. You said you only had the clothes you were wearing with you. Did you have bathers as well?”
“I didn’t have any bathers,” I said. “I took off all my clothes and jumped in. It felt great.”
Tabby’s eyes were very large. “You went in naked?”
“Yeah, it was fun. If you really want to swim, you could do the same now?”
“I can’t do that,” said Tabby. “I can’t swim in the pool naked. That would be...” She trailed off as her brain fritzed at the thought.
I shrugged. “That’s too bad. You were naked in front of all of us in the bathroom. I don’t think any of us would care.”
“I wouldn’t care,” said Jenny, lying back and closing her eyes.
“Nor me,” said Freddy. His eyes were alive, suggesting he might care a little bit, but not in the sense that he would object.
“But that was in the bathroom,” protested Tabby. “This is outside.”
I looked around. “Think of the pool as a really big bath. And it’s in a bathroom with bigger walls, that are further away. And the ceiling is really high, and painted blue. Everything else is the same.”
I stood up. “In fact, now that we’re talking about it, I feel like a swim too.”
I slipped off the shirt and dropped my undies. They both went into a pile on the beach chair. Then I walked over to the pool.
“But ... but...” said Tabby, as she watched me walk past her.
“It’s just a big bathroom,” I said. “There’s nothing wrong with being naked in a bathroom.
I winked at her, then I stepped out over the edge of the pool and dropped feet first into the water. The water was cool and refreshing. I immediately set out to swim to the other side. As I was swimming, I heard a sploosh behind me. I turned around to see Freddy surfacing after he’d jumped in. His shirt lay abandoned near the edge of the pool. Freddy laughed in delight and duck-dived down below the surface, flashing his ass at all of us in the process.
Tabby was standing exactly where I’d left her. She was watching all of this, with her mouth open.
I paddled slowly backwards and watched as Jenny walked over and picked up the shirt Freddy had abandoned. She went to where Tabby was standing and quietly said something. Tabby blushed and then replied, equally quietly. That was the end of the conversation, I don’t know what was said. But Jenny then held out her hand. Tabby wordlessly took her shirt off and handed it to Jenny. Jenny took it and put her hand out again. Tabby’s blush now spread down her chest. She hesitated, then pulled her undies down and off, and handed them to Jenny, as well.
A furiously blushing Tabby quickly scurried to the edge of the pool and jumped in with a squeal.
Jenny walked over to the beach chairs and put the stuff in her hands into a pile. Then she added her own clothes to the pile and walked back to the pool.
Tabby surfaced near me and pushed her hair out of her face.
“I can’t believe I’m doing this,” she gasped. “I’m naked.”
“Don’t worry about it,” I said. “Everybody’s always naked under their clothes.”
I took a breath, then let myself sink to the bottom. I kicked and swam along the bottom to the far edge of the pool. Tabby had followed me and surfaced beside me a moment after I did. Freddy splashed over to join us. I could put my feet down, just. The other two gripped the side of the pool. I could see that Jenny had slipped into the water across the pool from us and was happily drifting around over there, away from the noise makers.
“That doesn’t make sense,” said Tabby.
“What doesn’t make sense?” asked Freddy.
“She said that everybody’s always naked under their clothes,” said Tabby.
Freddy thought about that. “It’s kind of true.”
“Maybe,” said Tabby. “But it’s a pointless thing to say. The whole reason for wearing clothes is so that you’re not naked.”
“She’s got a point,” I acknowledged.
My plan to distract her from worrying about what she was wearing seemed to be working. It was time for a change of focus.
I reached out and tapped Tabby on the shoulder. “Tag,” I said as I paddled back away from her.
Freddy caught on and ducked away as well.
“Stay away from Jenny,” I called. “She’s not part of the game.”
We played swim-tag for a little while. There was a bit of squealing and shouting. I should have anticipated that. I felt bad about Jenny. I should’ve thought of a game that was quieter.
After a short time, Jenny climbed out and stood looking down at us.
“You need to get out of the pool,” Jenny called out to us.
Tabby and Freddy both started to complain.
“None of us have sunscreen on,” said Jenny. “And I hate to think what it would feel like getting burnt on the bits of you that aren’t normally out in the sun.”
She was right. I hadn’t thought of that, and I probably should have.
“Come on, kids,” I said. “Let’s go.”
I swam to the ladder and climbed out of the pool.
Freddy swam to the side of the pool and lifted himself up to sit on the edge of the pool. Tabby followed, grumbling. She knew Jenny was right, so she was mainly grumbling for show.
We all gathered under the shade-cloth and stood dripping while Jenny ducked inside. She came out a moment later carrying some towels. We dragged the rest of the beach chairs into the shade and draped towels over them, before sitting back and relaxing as we all lazily dabbed at our fronts with a second towel. The others draped the second towel carefully over their middles, so that they were decently covered. I didn’t bother.
We ended up simply lying there and letting the slight breeze finish drying us.
I would have happily lain there like that for hours. I wasn’t sure if Jenny was even awake. Freddy seemed happy to lie there. Tabby began getting restless.
It was easy to predict that Tabby wouldn’t cope with the quiet for long. I was right.
“I can’t believe how quickly I got used to that,” she blurted out.
Jenny didn’t even open her eyes. “Got used to what, Tabby?”
It turns out Jenny was awake, just resting her eyes.
“I can’t believe how quickly I got used to swimming in the nude,” Tabby continued. “Before I went in, I thought I’d die of embarrassment, but after a few minutes, I stopped caring. It was actually nice. The water felt great against my skin.”
Tabby fiddled with the towel covering her. “I really liked the way there was no drag when you swim like there is from bathers. And bathers cling, and try to slide up your backside. I felt so free, swimming without them.”
“That’s nice, Tabby. I’m glad you enjoyed it,” said Jenny, still lying there with her eyes closed.
“It probably makes a difference when you feel safe,” I said. I was more thinking out loud than talking to Tabby.
“Yeah, that’s true,” said Tabby. “I really did feel safe.”
She paused for a moment. “If we put sunscreen on, can we go back in the pool?”
Jenny rolled her head to the side and looked at her sister.
“Okay. Do you have any sunscreen? I think mine is somewhere in the back of my car.”
“Uncle Alex always keeps a big bottle in the back room,” said Tabby. She jumped up, letting the towel that had been covering her fall to the ground.
“I know where it is. I’ll get it.”
She ran inside and came back a moment later, holding a large bottle of sunscreen. She put the bottle on the picnic table and squirted some in her hands, then started slathering it over her face and down her front.
“This is so much easier to do with no bathers in the way,” she said in delight.
Freddy joined her and started putting sunscreen on his face and chest. “Can someone please do my back?” asked Freddy.
I stood up. “Sure, little buddy. I can do that.”
“Do my back next,” said Tabby. “Please?” she added, remembering to be polite at the last minute.
Jenny rolled off her chair and went inside, wrapping a towel around her as she walked.
A couple of minutes later, Freddy was sitting doing his legs. Tabby was hunched over with her hands on her knees, and holding still, while I spread sunscreen on her back.
Jenny came back out of the house, wearing the towel wrapped around her and knotted to keep it in place. She was holding her phone, four plastic cups, and a bottle of chilled water. She put the things on the picnic table which was sheltered by the same shade cloth which was providing us shade at the beach chairs.
“We have to give the sunscreen time to sink into our skin,” said Jenny. “So, once you’re done, we’re going to sit down and have some water and relax for a bit. I’ll tell you when you can go back in the pool.”
I finished Tabby’s back, and she sat down to do her legs.
I started doing myself but then Freddy came over, offering to do my back. I lay face down on the beach chair so that he could reach. It was nice to feel his little hands sliding over my shoulders and then down my back.
A moment later, I felt a second pair of hands on the back of my ankles. I glanced over my shoulder and saw that Tabby had decided to help. She saw me looking and grinned at me, then went back to concentrating on what she was doing. The four hands sliding over my skin felt magnificent. I lay my head down and thought maybe I could get used to this. Maybe this is why people like getting massages.
Freddy worked his way down my back and Tabby worked her way up my legs. Then they started giggling as they met at my ass and started pushing each other’s hands away as they competed to be the one to do that part of me. In the end, my ass was abandoned as they shoved at each other, giggling and taunting each other in the process.
I rolled over and stood up, giving both of them a soft slap on the butt as I did so. That stopped the shoving match as they both covered their bums and stared at me in surprise.
“I win,” I said.
Tabby rubbed her bum and pouted at me. Freddy grinned. But they both kept protecting their bums.
“Maybe I should do my own butt,” I said. “That way I’ll be sure it’s covered properly.”
“Sorry,” said Freddy. “We got carried away.”
I winked at him. “I think I’ll survive. But thanks for helping. It was nice.”
I looked at Jenny, quietly putting her own sunscreen on.
“Hey guys,” I said. “Jenny needs her back doing as well.”
I reached out and gently pushed on their shoulders, turning the two of them to face Jenny.
“Here you go, Jenny. Two willing volunteers, ready and waiting.”
“Thanks for nothing,” grumbled Jenny, giving me a little glare that was only half serious. She ditched the towel she was wearing and laid herself down on her front without any further complaint.
Freddy immediately started working on the back of her neck and her shoulders. Tabby went straight for her butt.
“Hey, you cheated,” complained Freddy.
Tabby giggled at him. “Being smart isn’t cheating. See? I won and I got the prize. I got the booty prize. Get it? The booty prize?” She giggled at her own cleverness.
