Chapter 107

The next morning, under the Witcher’s instruction, Roy continued correcting his longsword grip.

Mother Nenneke suddenly summoned them and led the two into the greenhouse cavern where herbs were raised; she pointed to the far end of the cave, and a human-shaped silhouette stepped out of the dim corner.

“This is a Sorceress from Kerack, Astrid Lyttneyd Ásgeirrfinnbjornsdottir,” Nenneke said with a teasing lilt, rattling off the long, awkward name at astonishing speed, “she goes by Lytta Neyd.”

Roy mouthed the name and studied the figure before him.

The powerful sorceress wore shoulder-length hair like living fire, her beauty striking, blue eyes like a clear pool, a proud nose that spoke of stubbornness, and full moist lips like the petals of a bloom.

Her skin was not the illness-pale of many sorceresses; it bore the wheat-gold tan of sun on the Skellige isles.

Beneath her orange shawl, her generous curves rose and fell like the Mahakam ridges, her tall frame reaching six feet.

Beneath white lace the bosom was, as rumor put it, like a sail set full to the wind, so prodigious that no shipping lane, no estuary, no harbor or naval fleet could claim its equal.

Even if one found such a thing, no man would have the strength to command that “ship.”

Below the chest the belly lay flat as tilled fields, the rounded hips hidden by a split skirt, two long legs hinted at beneath a yellow hem.

Below that, in small amethyst heels, ten toes gleamed painted with a beguiling purple.

She glided forward with an elegant scent about her, not sharp but rich, eyes full of confidence, her beauty positively dazzling.

“Nenneke, this is Letho’s apprentice Roy?”

“Yes.”

“Uh...” Roy nodded, slightly dazed; the woman was flawless in every detail, even her voice magnetic, intoxicating.

She was the third sorceress Roy had met in the Witcher’s world, and plainly the most beautiful by far.

Roy remembered sorceresses usually used magic to preserve their looks, often until death.

“Calm, calm.” He drew a breath, made a practiced bow and complimented her in the usual way, “Enchanting lady, your beauty outshines the stars.”

Dimples flickered at the corners of her flame-red mouth and the sorceress gave a stunning smile that made the eyes ache.

“Polite lad, you leave a good impression, much more pleasant than your savage teacher...”

“Savage?” Roy glanced at the Witcher in surprise, only to hear Coral explain, “Years ago when I first met your teacher he tried to use force to make a noble sorceress ‘do him a favor,’ to open a Portal for him.”

“Er...”

“If not for Mother Nenneke’s face, I swear he’d have been ground into slime and swept into the filthy sewers to keep company with the rats.”

She cursed harshly for an instant, then the frost on her face melted to a warm smile.

“But you’re not bad, you didn’t pick up his bad manners...” She paused, a look of meaning in her eyes. “I’ve heard you’re an unusual sort...”
