Chapter 1: Bowie (Bo) O’Shea

Bowie—My friends call me Bo, I don’t mind it really. Just in case you don’t remember, I am the son of Travis and Ana O’Shea (O’Shea Ranch S. A.). I have a twin brother named Crockett and a younger sister named Christina. My dad named his sons; mother named my sister.

As early as I can remember I heard stories about my namesake, James Bowie and his famous knife. I believe that’s what caused my fascination with knives. By the time I was 15 I had designed my own version of the famous Bowie knife and had the blacksmith on the ranch build it for me. He used the leaf spring from an old truck for the blade and carved the handle from a block of mahogany. Its leather sheath, I made myself. I carry it everywhere. Well, not to school, but everywhere else.

School, that was a little bit of a problem for me. I was not the sharpest knife in the drawer, if you know what I mean. My twin brother, Crockett, was and is a lot smarter than me. He had decided early on in life that he was going to be a lawyer and work for our mother’s father. Grandfather owns hotels, apartment houses and resorts on the beach. That means my brother is going to live in the capital, probably in an apartment, and work in an office.
