Chapter 8

Rowdy--Everything happened so fast. After that meeting Aunt Joan took me aside and told me I should ask Liesbet to marry me!

“We have known each other less than a week!”

“It is obvious that you love her and she loves you. Life is too short to waste even a day. Do it!”

I did and Liesbet jumped into my arms as she said yes. We set the date, January the fourth. Liesbet called her sister, who would be her maid of honor, then Grandma. We wanted to put off taking a honeymoon but Angel would not let us. We contacted a nursery and ordered 20,000 Geisha coffee plants before we married. After the wedding we left for a 10 day honeymoon at one of Aunt Ana’s father’s hotels on the coast. It was like a dream come true for both of us!

Back at the ranch we moved into Mom and Dad’s house. Liesbet contacted some friends of her’s that had worked at the coffee plant. They were ‘indios’ who lived on a ‘reserva india’ or Indian reservation near the coast. Every year they came into the mountains to harvest coffee. We built a small ‘campamento’ along the river for them to live and they got busy clearing the hillside for the coffee plants. When the rainy season started, we planted. Two years later we had our first harvest! Everything was ready and went off without a problem. The red coffee cherries arrived at the plant in Conception where they were dried, de-pulped, roasted, ground and packaged.
