Chapter 5: Learning about Lexie and Donna

“I need to tell you something.” She said as she sat beside me on the couch.

“I’m going to start at the beginning so you can better understand.

Sue, Donna and I were all from the Houston area. I guess that is why we were assigned to that three-person dorm room. Sue was a year ahead of us and studying Pre-Med. Donna and I were freshmen and we both were taking business courses. Donna was going to major in marketing; I wanted to study to be an accountant. Sue met you in one of your classes and went out with you even though she was always talking about Doug, her fiancé. Donna and I were both virgins but after listening to Sue brag about how good a lover you were ... well, we decided that since we were planning on losing our virginity it should be with someone who knew what he was doing.”

I interrupted, “Lexie, I never knew you two were virgins and I don’t ever remember seeing any...”

“Blood? Remember how I told you I lived with my grandparents at the riding stables for almost 12 years? I rode horses every day. One day I was bleeding when I came into the house. Momma took me to a doctor. After I was examined, it was determined that I had broken my hymen riding that day. You got a virgin in the biblical sense not the physical sense. Donna was raised on a ranch outside of Houston in Bellville. The same thing happened to her. You had two virgins, and you never knew it.”

“Did Donna get pregnant also?”

“Oh no, just me. We were both taking birth control pills but I caught a cold that semester and took some medicine that negated my birth control. That’s what Sue says most likely caused the pregnancy. Let me continue.”

“Go ahead.”

“Sue took summer classes graduated early and went to med-school. Donna got a job between her sophomore and junior year that paid so good that she decided to quit school and keep working. I had Thomas and needed money so I found a job and quit school. Momma babysat while I worked. Thomas was growing up and...”

“Sorry for the interruption, but did you name him ‘Thomas’ after Thomas Edison?” Lexie looked at me like I was crazy.

“Of course not! I named him ‘Thomas’ after my father.”

“Sorry go on.”

Lexie gave me another look, shook her head, then continued.

“Donna was working here in Houston when she fell in love with one of her out of town clients. He told her so many lies I don’t know where to start, but the big one was that he was not married. He was and on top of it all, he had two kids! The day she found out she was devastated. She called me crying hysterically. I talked her into meeting me at a restaurant and we talked, then I followed her to her apartment and talked some more. How it happened I really don’t know, it just did. I told my mother Donna was in a bad place mentally and I went to her place a couple of times a week. Donna got over that asshole really quick and we fell in love. Then my mom died. It was Donna who was there for me. Her apartment lease was up soon after I buried momma and we talked about her moving in with me but decided against that on account of Thomas. She did the next best thing, she moved upstairs!”

“Thomas doesn’t know about you and Donna?”

“Nobody knows about Donna and I.”

“How about Sue?”

“She would be the last person I would tell!”

“When she sleeps over we make sure our door is shut and locked. Donna makes breakfast some mornings, other times she is gone before Thomas gets up. We are very careful about keeping our affair secret. We never go out together, never”

“Why are you telling me?”
