Chapter 64
The rhythmic thuds of axe on wood mingled with the pounding hearts of the group.
With Oliver so committed, the two with Blessings held back, watching him tensely, hoping he’d fell the tree quickly.
Meanwhile, the Blood Spider grew visibly, racing against Oliver’s swings to see who’d finish first.
A heavy silence spread, everyone on edge, silently cheering Oliver on.
But things wouldn’t go smoothly; the Blood Spider began moving, heading straight for Oliver, the closest target.
Panic gripped the group; if it reached him, their chances of turning things around were gone.
Bennett knew the moment was critical, clenching his fists and making a snap decision.
“I’ve got the Lion Blessing, with a skill called Beast King’s Judgment, which can hold a monster for one minute.”
“When I use it to pin the Blood Spider, get to Oliver’s side, and once the tree’s down, haul it onto the cart together and be ready to run.”
“Jack, you’re up too; this isn’t a game. When we bring the cart, you need to break the web instantly, hold off the spider, and buy us time. Can you do it?”
Bennett knew more about Blessings than most; not all were offensive. His Judgment was a control skill, while Lion’s Roar offered wide-range attacks.
But at his current strength, he could only use Judgment once daily, leaving him powerless afterward, so he pinned his hopes on Jack.
“I can hold it off, no problem...” Jack started, hesitating, but Bennett cut him off.
“Good, it’s settled; time’s tight, stick to the plan.”
“Wait, hold on!” Jack tried to speak, but Bennett was already charging ahead, leaving no chance to argue.
“Damn, I’m screwed,” Jack muttered, sweating profusely.
His Turtle Blessing was purely defensive, useless for tearing the blood web.
He considered rushing the web with his Blessing active, hoping it might break through.
As he wrestled with the idea, the Blood Spider closed in on Oliver.
Oliver’s face paled, but he didn’t stop, chopping frantically.
He felt the spider’s murderous gaze like a blade scraping his back, goosebumps rising.
At this rate, he’d die before the tree fell.
“Bennett, Jack!” Oliver roared, picturing the tree as the two he’d just named, slamming the axe down in terror and rage.
“Come on, you bastards!”
Right then, a golden bolt like lightning struck the advancing Blood Spider.
Golden light wrapped it, freezing it in place.
Was this a Blessing’s power?
Ethan marveled; Blessings were varied and clearly boosted survival odds significantly.
