After she left, Evelyn stepped out onto the balcony and gazed outward. The sky was a brilliant blue, filled with warm sunlight.

She rose from her seat and placed her feet on the ground. The moment she stood up, a shrill female voice erupted from outside.

“Where is Liam? I heard that wretched woman has returned! How dare she show her face here, bring her out this instant!”

That voice?

Evelyn’s expression froze instantly. She hastened her steps toward the balcony, and through the railing, she spotted a hysterical woman standing in the courtyard.

People do change over two years. When Evelyn had first met Eleanor two years ago, the latter’s face was plastered with obsequious smiles, wearing a coat that appeared decades old. Her entire demeanor screamed of petty servility, as if terrified of offending anyone.

But now, countless jewelry pieces adorned her neck, while her heavily wrinkled face was caked with layers of white and pink powder, creating an unnatural, ghastly appearance.
