After leaving the bedroom, Casey sneered coldly, “She narrowly escaped death this time, but her fate isn’t far off.”

Liam’s pupils contracted sharply, and he snapped back, “She’s not going to die! Even if she’s on the brink of death, without my consent, I’ll pull her back from the edge!”

“What’s the point? Isn’t her near-death exactly what you hoped for?” Casey’s tone wasn’t mocking, but it came close, dripping with impatience as he lit a cigarette, took two deep drags, and demanded, “What did you do to Evelyn?”

If anyone had been even a moment later, the cold might have already claimed her life.

Liam’s dark eyes clouded over as he suppressed his turbulent emotions, replying calmly, “I left her outside for a while.”

“You’re out of your mind!” Casey exploded. “Minus twenty degrees in a snowstorm, you left her out there? Her body’s already frail. Are you really that desperate for her to die?”

Liam turned his face away. “I told you, she won’t die. But all of this ... it’s her own doing.”
