Chapter 19
“What exactly?” Mila’s voice sharpened abruptly, sending an icy shiver down Scarlett’s spine.
Mila continued, “Evelyn is delusional if she thinks she stands a chance against me. She’d need centuries more to even be worth noticing. I don’t waste my energy on her, it’s Liam who hasn’t come to fetch me yet. A woman shouldn’t lower herself, so I’ll wait until he’s ready before I return.”
“And listen,” Mila added, her tone colder still, “keep a close eye on Evelyn for me. Making her swallow hot sauce isn’t nearly enough. You need to push harder, make sure she’s crushed so thoroughly that she’ll never hold her head high again in this lifetime.”
Mila’s words left Scarlett trembling. Even after their conversation ended, Scarlett couldn’t shake off the chill. She had always known how ruthless Mila could be, and that very ruthlessness made her terrifying. To the outside world, Mila appeared fragile and innocent, like a delicate flower. But the events from two years ago ... hadn’t every single one of them been orchestrated by her own hand?
At this thought, Scarlett couldn’t help but feel a surge of relief.
Thank God she was on Mila’s side. If she’d chosen wrong, she might have met an unimaginable fate without even realizing it.
After Evelyn lay down, her stomach ignited with a searing pain. The burning sensation spread relentlessly, making rest impossible. Though her mouth felt numb, her stomach certainly wasn’t spared. She tossed and turned on the bed, drenched in sweat, yet the agony showed no signs of easing. Finally, as dawn began to break and the sky turned pale, exhaustion overtook her, and she collapsed into unconsciousness.
But she didn’t stay asleep for long. Soon, the sound of commotion downstairs jolted her awake.
“Where’s Evelyn?”
It was Liam’s voice, sharp and cutting, like needles piercing through her haze. Gasping for air, Evelyn forced herself upright just as the door swung open violently. Liam stood there, his dark eyes cold and piercing.
“Awake?”
Evelyn tried to speak, but her lips were still numb. All she could do was nod weakly.
“If you’re awake, stop pretending. Get dressed, put some makeup on, and get downstairs!”
