Chapter 18

She cast her eyes down. Now, she only needed to keep in mind that she amounted to nothing.

“Hey, Scarlett, don’t be so merciless to her. After all, she washed our clothes for us,” the maid who was eating fruit suddenly spoke up, a sly smile on her face. “Isn’t there some leftover food in our fridge? Since it’s bound to be thrown away anyway, we might as well give it to her.”

Scarlett drew out an “Oh” and said as if enlightened, “That’s true.”

Then she said to Evelyn, “Wait a moment. I’ll go and fetch you something to eat.”

Scarlett went to the fridge and took out a lunch box. She handed it over to Evelyn. Evelyn already had a bad feeling about it. As soon as she opened it, sure enough...

The lunch box contained slices of bread coated with chili sauce, a bright red layer, which was enough to indicate how strong-flavored it would be.

Scarlett raised an eyebrow, quite pleased with herself. “Eat! Haven’t you not eaten all day and wanted to eat? This is the last bit of food. If you don’t eat it, I’ll feed it to the dogs.”
