Chapter 12
Evelyn did not even glance at him. Slowly, she lowered her head, her back curving as well.
Her lips were getting closer and closer to the shoe. Just as they were about to touch, Liam abruptly stood up. However, before Liam could intervene, the heavy door behind Evelyn was suddenly pushed open with great force.
Because of the backlighting, the face could not be seen clearly. Only a tall figure with an elegant demeanor could be made out. Evelyn was stunned for a moment. Before she could react, the person walked straight towards her, encircling her waist while she was kneeling on the ground, and forcefully helped her up.
“Evelyn, I’m late.” The man’s voice was gentle, like ripples spreading out, easy-going and comfortable, yet full of determination.
The familiar voice after two years made Evelyn’s face show astonishment and disbelief.
“Rafael?” Her voice was hoarse and trembling.
Rafael paused for a moment, then smiled lightly and nodded. “It’s me, Evelyn. I’ve been looking for you for a long time. You’ve finally come back.”
Evelyn closed her eyes. Her eyelashes trembled incessantly. When she was still the young lady of the Clarke family, Rafael had been her playmate. The two had grown up together and had even been engaged for a period of time.
If it were not for Liam’s appearance, they might have ended up together due to the arranged marriage. But precisely because of Liam, she declined Rafael, hurting his heart. As a result, Rafael had already gone abroad.
Now thinking back, there was only endless regret.
If only she had listened to her father ... Why did she have to choose Liam? Did she really feel happy in the end with this kind of outcome...
Rafael patted her shoulder as if to comfort her. Then his gentle eyes looked ahead, softness receding. An air of strength emerged as he scanned the crowd. His thin lips parted. “Apologize.”
Upon hearing this, most people present could not help but want to refute. But due to Rafael’s identity, they could only suppress their anger.
